A new teaser for Yellowstone spin-off Dutton Ranch includes a subtle nod to the man who made the family name famous.
Kevin Costner’s John Dutton character is iconic, no matter how you feel about his fate during Season 5. Daughter Beth Dutton (played by Kelly Reilly) and her husband Rip Wheeler (Cole Hauser) are the stars of this new show. Quite a bit has changed but one thing is certain:
She’s still her daddy’s little girl.

“I miss him,” Beth says to open the 30-second long social clip.
“We brought the best part of your father with us,” Rip replies. It’s what comes next that may give you goosebumps. Yellowstone spoilers are coming.
What Happened To John Dutton On Yellowstone?
There is the on-screen and off-screen version of what happened to Costner’s John Dutton on Yellowstone.
Viewers watch as his character was killed off screen at the start of Part 2 of Season 5. Later we learn of an assassination plan led by Sarah Atwood, Jamie Dutton’s girlfriend and confidant. It was all over family land that Governor John Dutton protected at the expense of Market Equities, who planned to build an airport there.
All of this happened because Costner and Paramount could not come to terms on a new contract that would keep in on the show past Part 1 of Season 5. Nobody associated with the show was pleased with this turn of events. Later, it was revealed Yellowstone could have lasted six or seven seasons with Costner.

Dutton Ranch Tribute To John Dutton
Last week’s Dutton Ranch teaser video opens with Beth lamenting her father’s death. The camera is on her and then Rip, before it moves to a cowboy hat and a photo.
The insinuation is that’s John Dutton’s hat. It’s definitely a photo of young Beth Dutton (played by Kylie Rogers) standing next to 1980s John Dutton played by Josh Lucas.
After that, the clip sets up drama for Season 1 of Dutton Ranch. Many of the clips or audio bites were heard previously. For example and earlier trailer teased high drama between Beth and Annette Benning’s Beulah Jackson.
When Does Dutton Ranch Begin?
Dutton Ranch will launch with a two-episode premiere on May 15, 2026, on Paramount+ and the Paramount Network.
New episodes will air each Friday after that.
