REPORT: Hayden Panettiere Suffered Apparent Overdose

Hayden Panettiere may have died of a drug overdose. Dispatch audio from 911 published by TMZ and confirmed by People appears to include an unnamed official saying, “overdose,” as well as, “CPR in progress.”

No official cause of death for the actor has been issued, and an investigation is ongoing. TMZ previously reported that an autopsy is scheduled for Monday (Aug. 17), which will aim to determine her cause of death.

Regarding the dispatch audio suggesting that Panettiere suffered an overdose, a rep for the star told People, “I don’t have any more information at this time, but it’s looking as though that is the case.”

Hayden Panettiere died unexpectedly on Sunday (Aug. 16). Her death came just five days before her 37th birthday.

How Did Hayden Panettiere Die?

According to law enforcement sources cited by TMZ, a friend of Panettiere’s called 911 at 1:51PM on Sunday from a residence in Greenville, S.C. At the time, the actor was reportedly unresponsive and in cardiac arrest.

Those sources say that paramedics attempted to resuscitate Panettiere via CPR as well as “advanced cardiac life support,” which could include special medicines and airway tubes, as well as heart rhythm tracking.

Tragically, efforts to revive Panettiere were unsuccessful, and she was declared dead at around 2:32PM.

“The preliminary investigation has not indicated any signs of foul play or suspicious circumstances,” said a spokesperson for the Greenville Police Department, according to People. The Greenville Police Department and Greenville County Coroner’s Office have opened an investigation into Panettiere’s death.
