New video shows bodycam from fatal police shooting involving NMSP

NMSP has released bodycam video following a deadly police shooting that took place back in April.The shooting happened back on April 21, 2026, after Torrance County Deputies were called to the scene after receiving reports of a family member firing a gun on a property near the town of Manzano. Deputies later located the suspect, Edward Lopez, 69, who was informed he had a warrant out for his arrest and later went back into his home to retrieve a rifle and start shooting at Deputies. Deputies on scene called for backup from State Police. You can hear Deputies in the video on scene saying, “let me see your hands!” before firing shots at Lopez. Police immediately gave medical aid, and Lopez was quickly transported to the hospital but died to his wounds. A 22-caliber rifle was recovered at the scene, and no officers were injured during the incident.
