Family Still Searching for Farmington Man Missing Since 2022
More than four years after Remus “Rey” Yazzie disappeared, his family is still searching for answers. Yazzie, who grew up in Farmington, graduated from Farmington High School and was studying to become a welder, was last seen in January of 2022.
Kayla Ignacio, Rey’s sister, said: “I know he’s out there.”
Kayla describes her brother as a kind, funny mentor who loved skateboarding.
“Skateboarding was his passion… anytime he could get out there and skate, that’s what he was doing.”
The family says they spent months following leads across New Mexico and Texas, trying to uncover information. Eventually the family got a tip that about a car Rey was riding in. They followed it and turned over the information to investigators.
Rey’s family says investigators confirmed Rey was riding in that vehicle which was involved in a DUI crash on January 5th, 2022. The driver was arrested.
Rey was taken to the San Juan Regional Medical Center and was treated and released. That was the last confirmed time anyone saw him.
“He was not involved in anything that would get him in trouble,” Kayla said. “He, you know, he wasn’t a fighter. he wasn’t somebody that looked for trouble.”
Nearly a year after Rey disappeared, investigators identified a human hand found near the river at Westland Park as his left hand. Despite multiple searches by law enforcement and volunteer teams, no other remains have been found. His family is urging anyone with information—no matter how small—to come forward.
“Even if you think it’s probably not worth sharing, you don’t know. The littlest thing could help” Alrita Ignacio, another sister, said.
Farmington Police continue to investigate Rey Yazzie’s disappearance. He is 6 feet 1 inch tall and weighs about 220 pounds. Rey has a skateboard tattoo on the left side of his neck and a Snoopy tattoo on his right forearm.
