Albuquerque Fire Rescue (AFR) responded to a report of an injured hiker at the Embudo Trailhead on July 11 around 7:52 p.m., according to a press release. The department says AFR crews obtained a visual of the patient from the trailhead parking lot, and Albuquerque Police Department Open Space officers were notified and assisted with search and rescue operations. The AFR Technical Rescue Team (Squad 2) remained available as a tactical reserve unit. Engine 8 and Rescue 8, designated as Rescue Team 1, made rapid contact with the patient and assessed a left-ankle injury. The injury was stabilized, and the hiker was placed in a wheeled stokes basket for transport back to the trailhead. At the trailhead, AFR personnel provided additional treatment before Albuquerque Ambulance 3062 transported the patient to a local hospital. No injuries to rescuers were reported.
