Chances of later-day gusty storms about to run out as heat really builds

Several days of extreme heat will likely lead to heat advisories being issued

Oh well, you know what, let’s give you *** view here of downtown Albuquerque before we get going, and you can see we’re still waiting out that morning sunrise which is back exactly at 6:00 a.m. today. The day is getting *** little shorter on us. Heat really building, prolonged hot stretch, and the storm chances are about to noticeably decrease. Just gonna start to favor the corners of New Mexico. We’ll have to wait until next week before the heat backs down. That upper high heat dome, it’s migrated out of northern Mexico. It’s almost squatting right on top of the New Mexico and Arizona state line. Still *** little moist. Around New Mexico, so we’ll watch for some monsoon storms to develop favoring the west central high terrain later on this afternoon in northern New Mexico. This 5 o’clock hour and thereafter is when we’ll hold out some hope that those isolated gusty thundershowers will try to find us in the Albuquerque Metro. *** lot of spots knocking on the door of 100 degrees today before any spots of rainy relief will be felt. Four Corners area once again riding out the threat of *** dry lightning strike and maybe *** new wildfire start from that. Uh, overnight tonight, showers and storms gradually wind down and the clearing. The trend does play out into tomorrow morning, so we’ll start with 50s and 60s and some lower 70s in southern New Mexico and, uh, probably lots of sunshine now tomorrow afternoon, uh, that’s impact heat, but we’re very close to 100 in Albuquerque. It’s just the southwest and northeast corners of the state, uh, down to those chances that scattered storms are likely dry in Albuquerque. And note where we have those storm chances that northeast and southwest corner of the state tomorrow could produce some severe weather. There’s 100 on the forecast for Friday here in Albuquerque and, uh, very limited. Storm coverage once again just favoring the corners of New Mexico. Look at all the spots around 103, 104 in southern New Mexico, an absolute scorcher for Friday, uh, still riding out *** potential severe weather threat for that northeast corner of the state. Farmington, four corners, uh, we’re not hitting 100, but gosh, we’re close in Farmington. Chinley at 96, lower and middle 90s. Cortez Derego, Gallup grants, Cuba at 92 today. Uh, we are dry for the next few. We’re below 100 through Friday. Boy, Saturday, Sunday right around 100 degrees. We may actually. Be able to count on *** chance at some showers and storms by Monday and Tuesday of next week here in this corner of the state. Southwest Mexico, 92 Silver City, right up around 100 off the mountains. Chances that storms favoring this high terrain into, uh, well, northern Grant County and Catron counties. Uh, we do have these daily storm chances. Tomorrow does look more active than today. Remember we’ve got the severe weather threat. Lower storm chances Friday, Saturday, Sunday could be another day with an uptick in storm coverage. So those are impact weather days. Here’s Southeast New Mexico. Generally on the dry side of things. Today, uh, we’re at 96 now in Magordo, real close to 100 from Roswell to Carlsbad. I do think we’re in the triple digits tomorrow and up at 103 Friday. Uh, now storm chances are quite low for the next few, but Saturday, Sunday, Monday, there’s going to be an increase in at least the chance at seeing some storms in the area. Northeast New Mexico, lower 90s with Raton and Vegas in the upper 80s. Uh, we’re *** little hot around Moriarty in Santa Rosa. There’s this chance of scattered showers and thunderstorms. We had some burn scar flash flooding issues on the Hermit’s Ce Calf Canyon wildfire burns. Yesterday, so that sets the stage for an easy flash flood event to potentially happen today if *** downpour hits the right spot. Uh, we’re near 90 for the next few. Saturday looks to be the most active day of the next 7, but it’s daily storm chances here that’ll favor the high terrain. It’s north central New Mexico right now in view. We’re in the upper 80s, low and middle 90s, 91 in Santa Fe today. Slight chance at storms. Rain chances drop off going forward here for the next few days, and you know, Santa Fe’s got 4 days to ride out here above 90, then it’s upper 80s early next week for the Albuquerque Metro. Probably not hitting 100, but gosh, it’ll be close. 98 at the sunport. Look at those 98s, 99s for the River Valley communities after today’s 20% storm chance. We’re down to just 10 percenters going forward. Prolonged stretch of impact heat here. Got to be smart and safe and careful as we’re up around 100 for *** few days and then less heat next week, not really eyeing up another good storm chance though until potentially Tuesday.

It’s another beautiful summertime morning with dry skies and comfortable temperatures down in the 60s for most. Enjoy the nice start and get your exercise and outdoor projects in early though because a quick warm up is expected today, sending us well into the 90s to around 100 degrees for much of the state. A little rainy relief is expected into the late afternoon and evening hours, the most-favored areas for later-day storms will be the west-central high terrain and Northern Mountains, with just a slight chance of storms through the state’s midsection around Albuquerque and Santa Fe. We will once again be monitoring the threat of a dry lightning strike up around the 4-Corners area later today too.Less storm coverage and even more heat are expected for Thursday with more spots making a run at 100 degrees for an afternoon high, we will probably see heat advisories issued for many communities including the Albuquerque metro; so, it will be a day to remember to stay hydrated and take it easy. Friday is probably going to be even hotter than Thursday, Friday will likely end up being the hottest day of this stretch, however Saturday will only be a degree or two less hot than Friday. The big takeaway is through Saturday – we will be riding out a prolonged stretch of serious summertime heat.Temperatures will begin to drop a few degrees each day early next week, and we could start to see a bit of an increase in storm coverage too around the state. Sadly though we do not see those much higher storm chances wanting to find the Albuquerque metro, and even though we are talking about less heat, highs above 92 or 93 degrees still look likely for Albuquerque.
