5 DWI Arrests in Santa Fe, teen charged with reckless driving
In 72-hour span, 5 impaired drivers were arrested and a teen was charged with street racing.
An aggressive campaign to make Santa Fe’s roads safer is continuing, according to the Santa Fe Police Department.A SFPD news release said that from late Thursday night through early Saturday, DWI officers arrested five impaired drivers and charged a 15-year-old with street racing.Marcus Rivera, 38, was stopped around 11 p.m. Thursday after allegedly running a stop sign near Paseo Del Sol West and Jaguar Drive. Officers say Rivera was exhibiting signs of impairment and police say Rivera refused sobriety tests and was taken into custody. Rivera was booked into the Santa Fe Adult Detention Facility and charged with aggravated DWI, careless driving and resisting and evading or obstruction of an officer.Soon after, on the same night, another DWI officer stopped a vehicle being driven by a 15-year-old boy who was going 75 mph in a 35 mph zone. The teen was taken into custody and charged with reckless driving and street racing. The Juvenile Probation Office allowed the teen to be released from custody and picked up by his father, the release said.Around 2 a.m. Friday, a SFPD officer stopped a car that went through a stop sign at San Francisco Street and Cathedral Place. Police say the driver, Jordan Garcia, 32, appeared to be impaired. A DWI officer was called to the scene, where Garcia refused to have a sobriety test. Garcia was arrested and booked into the Santa Fe County Adult Detention Facility and charged with aggravated DWI, possession of a controlled substance, stop sign violation, and driving while his license was revoked. A DWI officer was called to Rufina Street, near Zafrano Drive, around 11 p.m. Friday, where an SFPD officer conducted a traffic stop were the driver, Dilwer Lopez Godinez, 38, showed signs of impairment. Godinez was arrested, booked into the Santa Fe County Adult Detention Facility, and charged with aggravated DWI, careless driving, fleeing or attempting to elude an officer, driving on the wrong side of the road, and having open alcoholic containers in the vehicle.Around 11:35 p.m. Friday, a DWI officer was called to a Maverik gas station on Sawmill Road where a traffic stop was made on a vehicle backing up. Angelica Vasquez Dominguez, 21, appeared to be impaired and tested almost twice the legal limit. She was arrested for DWI and booked into the Santa Fe County Adult Detention Facility.Then, early Thursday around 1 a.m., a DWI officer conducted a traffic stop near Alameda and Temblon Street where the driver, Shantel Rivera, 31, was unable to stay in her lane. Rivera appeared to be impaired. She was charged with DWI and booked into the Santa Fe County Adult Detention Facility.All arrested people are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
