Investigation begins after suspect dies in police custody

An investigation is underway after a man died while in police custody Sunday in southeast Albuquerque.A spokesperson for Albuquerque police says officers arrived at an apartment on the 400 block of Tennessee Street Southeast in response to a domestic violence call around 1 a.m.According to police, the male suspect was unconscious but breathing when officers got to the scene. While in police custody, the suspect stopped breathing.Police say first responders attempted life-saving measures but were unable to revive the suspect. He was pronounced dead at the scene.Because the suspect was in custody at the time of death, the Multi-Agency Task Force has opened an investigation. The suspect’s identity has not been released, pending notification of next of kin.
