MONOLORD Announces New Record, Streams New Single & Announces More U.S. Tour Dates

Date:

Swedish doom trio Monolord are returning with a new full-length album titled Neverending, set for release on May 29, 2026 via Relapse Records – marking their first studio album in five years.

The band recorded the album in Ashland, OR with acclaimed producer/engineer Sylvia Massy, known for her work with acts like Tool, System of a Down, and even Johnny Cash.

According to vocalist/guitarist Thomas Jäger, the recording process was unusually deep and archival in scope. Massy reportedly requested everything the band had ever created – including old, unused material: “She asked me to send her everything we had – not just songs written for the album, but every stray riff and idea,” he says.

“I even sent her stuff I’d written ten years ago. She listened to all of it and sent us a list of what she wanted to work on.” The band rehearsed 12 songs, recorded 11, and ultimately selected eight for Neverending. The result captures a focused but expansive version of Monolord‘s sound.

The first preview of the record arrives with the single “You Bastard,” accompanied by a studio-session video filmed by James Rexroad. The track hints at a stylistic shift for the band, with Jäger noting: “This isn’t really what people would call a doom album. It feels like a mix of that and something new.”

While Monolord have long been associated with slow, heavy doom textures, Neverending appears to expand their palette into more dynamic and groove-driven territory, while still retaining the weight and atmosphere that defined their earlier work.

Reflecting on the band’s trajectory since forming in 2013, drummer Esben Willems adds: “It’s been a wild ride and still is. I’m incredibly proud of what we’ve accomplished along the way, and in many ways, this album feels like the essence of everything we’ve done so far. My mindset is the same it’s always been, to be the absolute best the three of us can be.”

With pre-orders now available across vinyl, CD, cassette, and digital formats, Neverending sets the stage for what could be one of Monolord‘s most expansive releases to date. Pre-orders are available here.
