Demonstration shows support for U.S.-Israel war with Iran

Date:

While protests in the Duke City have been plentiful against the joint U.S.-Israel war against Iran, a demonstration in support of the war happened Saturday. The demonstrators’ support was primarily for the Iranian people and the hope that the war will bring the overthrow of the theocratic regime that has controlled the country for nearly 47 years. Among the demonstrators was Hassan Friman, an Iranian PhD student at the University of New Mexico whose family members are in the Middle East. He said the internet is down in Iran, and that has limited his communication with them. “I heard from them two days ago,” Friman said. “They were happy, although they are feeling they are in a stressful situation. They were happy and they think this operation will ultimately get them free from the Ayatollah regime in Iran.” Sarah Nazadi, who works at the University of New Mexico, is an Iranian who has been unable to communicate with her family because of the internet shutdown. “This is the last chance to get rid of the Islamic Republic and the brutal regime, and to bring peace not only to the Iranian people, but also to all that region and the globe,” Nazadi said. However, Nazadi said that the warfare itself is regrettable. “I hope that nobody in the world wants another foreign country to bomb them because they have no other choice,” Nazadi said. “So that’s a very difficult situation for a lot of Iranian people because they have mixed emotions about it. Obviously, it’s their country, but they know there is no other choice besides this. They’re very aware of all of the concern that might exist, and all of the fear, but they’re also hopeful for the future.”
