Hellenic black metal quartet Yoth Iria announce their third record Gone With The Devil, set for worldwide release on May 8 via Metal Blade Records.
Following a meteoric rise from 2021’s crafty debut As The Flame Withers and the hypnotic 2024 follow-up Blazing Inferno, Yoth Iria consciously expanded their sound on Gone With The Devil.
“The creative workflow was similar to Blazing Inferno, yet we deliberately pushed ourselves to bring new elements into our music. We kept the immediacy of Blazing Inferno, the psychedelia of As The Flame Withers, and all the characteristics people expect from Hellenic black metal, while adding fresh sounds and atmospheres never before heard from Yoth Iria,” the band explained.
Fronted by bassist and lyricist Jim Mutilator, whose roots trace back to Rotting Christ‘s legendary debut Thy Mighty Contract in 1993 and early Varathron, Yoth Iria continues to channel the occult atmospheres and apocalyptic gravitas of classic Hellenic black metal while forging new territory.
Album opener “Dare To Rebel” immediately signals a broader palette, fusing windswept intros, rock-steady rhythms, dueling guitar harmonies, and jubilant solos that nod to classic heavy metal, all while remaining primed for the live stage.
Predominantly stately tempos allow dark riffs, flamboyant leads, and memorable melodies to breathe, making the occasional blastbeats – like those in the haunting lead single “The Blind Eye Of Antichrist” – hit even harder. Mediterranean folk flourishes and gothic cadences add depth, while simple, primal melodies evoke timeless ritualistic power.
Reflecting on “The Blind Eye Of Antichrist”, the band notes: “True change begins when we refine our character, discipline, and inner power. A transformed person creates a transformed reality. Personal evolution becomes a universal shift – a new order of existence. The world changes when the self is reborn.”
