WVU assistant football coach Noel Devine Jr. arrested on felony strangulation charge
WVU assistant football coach Noel Devine Jr. was arrested over the weekend on one count of felony strangulation.
In light of this, the Mountaineers’ head coach released this statement:
“Upon receiving information of the arrest, I have immediately and indefinitely put Noel Devine on leave from the Mountaineer football coaching staff. Any future decision on his status will be determined after more information becomes available.”

Devine was booked in the North Central Regional Jail on Sunday, and his bail has been set at $40,000. His preliminary hearing has been set for Sept. 23.
The 38-year-old has been on the West Virginia coaching staff since 2025 and has served as the team’s assistant running backs coach and offensive analyst.
