HELLRIPPER Announce New Album Coronach, Debut Ferocious Single “Hunderprest”

0

Scotland’s ibex-obsessed blackened thrash bastard of Hades, Hellripper, has announced the release of his fourth studio album, Coronach, arriving worldwide on March 27, 2026 via Century Media Records. The album marks a major milestone for mastermind James McBain, serving as Hellripper‘s debut release for the iconic label.

To herald the announcement, Hellripper has unleashed the album’s opening salvo, “Hunderprest,” a ripping black thrash anthem that wastes no time plunging the listener into chaos. A high-energy performance video for the track — filmed at Damnation Festival 2025 by Sethpicturesmusic and edited by Jake Ten — is now available.

McBain describes “Hunderprest” as the perfect album opener: “‘Hunderprest’ hits immediately with a chaotic deluge of dissonance, and is what I felt to be the perfect way to open the album — leaving the listener with no time to prepare. Based on the legend of ‘Hunderprest,’ or ‘dog priest’ – the vampire of Melrose Abbey. The sinful chaplain inherited his nickname because of his habit of hunting on horseback with his pack of hounds.

“After his death, legend says he was buried in the graveyard of Melrose Abbey; and because his spirit could not find peace, he would rise from his grave when night fell to harass the villagers and his former mistress to satisfy his bloodthirst. He was eventually defeated when a group of monks from Melrose Abbey exhumed Hunderprest’s blood-soaked body in broad daylight and set it on fire, throwing the ashes into the wind to be sure that the vampire would no longer be able to torment the town.

“Musically, the track primarily takes influence from a mixture of thrash (Kreator, Merciless, Metallica) and black (Watain, Rotting Christ, Tribulation) metal, with a healthy dose of some more ‘atmospheric’ d-beat elements from the likes of Oathbreaker and Fall of Efrafa.”

He adds about the album, “‘Coronach’ is a personal exploration of Scottish Culture — its music, literature, history & folklore. From Pictish mysteries to Victorian Gothic literature, sinister lore, classic Scottish poetry and modern urban tales, the album tells stories of the country throughout the ages.

“Inspired by anything and everything from Venom and Mercyful Fate, to Watain and Opeth, to Manic Street Preachers, film scores and traditional Scottish music, the album is a good representation of myself all wrapped up in a nice speed metal package! Quite a bit of experimentation went into this album, and I wanted each track to contain something that I had never done previously. Whether it be the inclusion of a different instrument, or how a song begins, I aimed to offer some element of surprise in each track.

“The album, named after the vocal lament traditionally sung at funerals in the Scottish Highlands, encompasses everything the band is about: mixing modern and old-school influences, past and present storytelling, the dark side of Scottish history and my personal interpretation of it.

“As always, the writing and recording took place in my home studio, with various other people putting their stamp on a few of the tracks. The album was mixed by myself, and was mastered by Damian Herring at Subterranean Watchtower Studios, and the artwork was done by Adam Burke (Nightjar Illustration). Fàilte gu Alba – Welcome to Scotland!”

Coronach is available for pre-order now.

2026 Sony Open leaderboard: Nick Taylor tied on top in Hawai’i after 36 holes

0

A windy day in Honolulu saw Waialae Country Club show some teeth in Friday’s second round of the Sony Open, with tougher scoring conditions condensing the top of the leaderboard and sending some big names home early.

After yielding a pair of 62s on Thursday, the best anyone could do on Friday was a 64, with Davis Riley firing a 6-under second round to surge into a share of the lead and Ryan Gerard matched him for low round of the day to climb into the top 10. Riley credited a hot putter and an improved ball-striking day for moving him into a tie on top of the leaderboard, even with a penalty stroke in his round.

“Today I putted really well, but I definitely hit the ball a little bit better today,” Riley said. “It maybe wasn’t even better, I just didn’t have as many crazy shots as yesterday. I had a penalty stroke off the tee yesterday, which really cost me and felt like I lost a lot of momentum there. Overall the ball striking was a little cleaner and continued some of that good putting.”

On the other end of the spectrum was Collin Morikawa, as the No. 17 player in the Official World Golf Rankings could only manage a 68 on Friday to finish at even par for the week, one shot short of the cut line. As so often happens with Morikawa, it was the putter that let him down. Morikawa missed a few short putts on his back nine, including a 6-footer for birdie on No. 18 to make the cut.

A missed cut in the season opener that doesn’t feature many of the game’s elite is an extremely difficult way for Morikawa to begin what he hopes is a bounce-back season after a tough second half of 2025. He still appears to be searching for the form that made him a two-time major champion and won’t get the kind of confidence boost expected from a Sony Open start.

Morikawa wasn’t alone in struggling with the wind on Friday, and will find some company from a few other notable names who will also be looking for an early flight home — most notably Keegan Bradley, who also finished his week at even par.

Jordan Spieth did make the cut, as he aims for a rebound season himself, and he highlighted the challenge of the conditions on Friday after his round, a second consecutive 68 that moves him comfortably into the weekend at 4 under.

“I hit a 7-iron into that 15th hole. I had maybe 158 hole and I think it went 120 yards and I played it like 175,” Spieth explained. “So it was just very challenging at times. And on the greens it just becomes really hard to make putts when it’s that windy.”

Thanks to those conditions, things bunched up considerably and when the third round gets underway, plenty of players will believe they’re still in contention to win the opening event of the 2026 PGA Tour season.

Leaders

T1. Nick Taylor, Davis Riley, S.H. Kim, Adrien Dumont de Chassart, Kevin Roy (-9)

While Taylor and Roy couldn’t replicate their 62s from Thursday, the first round co-leaders remain in a share of the lead heading into the weekend — with Taylor aiming to go back-to-back in Honolulu. Riley’s low round of the day vaults him into first as well, with Kim (68), Parry (67) and Dumont de Chassart (67) climbing to the top of the leaderboard as well.

Those five players will tee it up late in the afternoon for Saturday’s third round, and they’ll hope that it’s similar to Friday when the winds got going in the morning and made it tough on the early wave. Taylor is the favorite of this group to maintain his spot given his ranking and history of success at Waialae.

Contenders

T5. Maverick McNealy, Chris Gotterup, John Parry, Takumi Kanaya (-8)
T10. Ryan Gerard, Vince Whaley, Patrick Rodgers (-7)
T13. Ben Griffin, Jake Knapp and six others (-6)

There are some extremely notable names in the chase pack entering the weekend, and given we know there are low scores that can be produced at Waialae when the conditions present themselves, everyone in this group — and even some behind — will feel like they’re very much in the hunt for a win.

McNealy, Gotterup and Griffin pick up where they left off in 2025, as all three enjoyed career years on Tour and are off to a quality start to their 2026 campaign. Griffin stumbled on Friday to a 71, falling a bit off the pace after a hot first round, but he’ll be a serious threat on the weekend right alongside McNealy and Gotterup.

Ryan Gerard is a popular pick as a breakout star for the 2026 season, as he also closed 2025 strong, and he’s making those projections look smart with his start in Hawaii.

Notable players who missed the cut

  • Collin Morikawa (E)
  • Keegan Bradley (E)
  • Luke Clanton (+1)
  • Chris Kirk (+1)
  • Cam Davis (+3)
  • Gary Woodland (+3)
  • Tony Finau (+6)

2026 Sony Open updated picks, odds

Odds via FanDuel Sportsbook

  • Nick Taylor (11/2)
  • Maverick McNealy (17/2)
  • Chris Gotterup (11-1)
  • Takumi Kanaya (13-1)
  • Adrien Dumont de Chassart (13-1)
  • S.H. Kim (13-1)
  • Kevin Roy (14-1)
  • John Parry (16-1)
  • Davis Riley (16-1)
  • Ben Griffin (17-1)
  • Ryan Gerard (17-1)

The odds sheet going into the weekend has gotten extremely tight and that does present some opportunity to identify some value. Griffin, just three shots off the pace, at 17-1 seems to provide some value, especially after proving he can go low with his Thursday 63. Gotterup at 11-1 also seems solid, especially if winds stay up as he’s proven in the past to be able to handle those conditions — albeit on a very different kind of course in Scotland.

Tracking 2026 Super Bowl ticket prices

There’s less than a month to go before Super Bowl 60 kicks off in Santa Clara, California. While the Buffalo Bills, Denver Broncos, Seattle Seahawks, San Francisco 49ers, Houston Texans, New England Patriots, Los Angeles Rams and Chicago Bears are still vying for a spot in this year’s Super Bowl, fans from around the country are looking ahead at ticket prices for the big game. Video above: Trailer released for Bad Bunny’s Super Bowl 60 Halftime ShowThe California Bay Area has hosted the Super Bowl twice before, in 1985 at Stanford Stadium and in 2016 at Levi’s Stadium — where this year’s game will be played Sunday, Feb. 8.The 49ers have a shot at playing the Super Bowl in their home stadium, making ticket options on the secondary market quite pricey at this stage in the game. Before kickoff of Saturday’s NFL divisional round playoff games, the most expensive tickets for the Super Bowl were found on SeatGeek at $110,300 in a field box. The site also has tickets listed for as much as $84,947 in a sideline VIP section.StubHub has field box seats, like SeatGeek has listed, but at a lower price. For seats in a VIP section on this site, it is $64,947. Three other sites have hundreds of listings for Super Bowl tickets, at much lower prices than SeatGeek and StubHub.But they shouldn’t be considered a bargain. The most expensive ticket on VividSeats is listed at $27,694, right on the 50-yard line a few rows back from the field. The most expensive ticket on Gametime is listed at $23,161 at the 35-yard line, 10 rows back. The most expensive ticket on Ticketmaster is listed at $27,281, though the location is not quite as prime as the previous two sites. This ticket is in Section 110, around the 20-yard line and 37 rows back from the field. Looking for the cheapest way for you and a friend to see the big game? The get-in price falls quite a bit. The cheapest pairs of tickets on these five secondary sites run from the $6,000 to $8,000 range. Tony Blair, Rubio, Kushner, Witkoff to help oversee Gaza reconstruction, White House says

0

The White House released the names of some of the leaders who will play a role in overseeing the next steps in Gaza after the Palestinian committee set to govern the territory under U.S. supervision met for the first time Friday in Cairo.

The committee’s leader, Ali Shaath, an engineer and former Palestinian Authority official from Gaza, pledged to get to work quickly to improve conditions. He expects reconstruction and recovery to take about three years and plans to focus first on immediate needs, including shelter.

“The Palestinian people were looking forward to this committee, its establishment and its work to rescue them,” Shaath said after the meeting, in a television interview with Egypt’s state-owned Al-Qahera News.

Under President Trump’s plan, Shaath’s technocratic committee will run day-to-day affairs in Gaza under the oversight of a Trump-led “Board of Peace,” whose members have not yet been named.

The White House said an executive board will work to carry out the vision of the Board of Peace.

The executive board’s members, announced Friday, include Secretary of State Marco Rubio, White House special envoy Steve Witkoff, Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner, former British Prime Minister Tony Blair, Apollo Global Management CEO Marc Rowan, World Bank President Ajay Banga, and Mr. Trump’s deputy national security adviser Robert Gabriel.

Nickolay Mladenov, a former Bulgarian politician and U.N. Middle East envoy, is to serve as the executive board’s representative overseeing day-to-day matters.

Mr. Trump supports the group’s efforts to govern Gaza after the two-year war between Israel and Hamas. Israeli troops withdrew from parts of Gaza after the ceasefire took effect on Oct. 10, while thousands of displaced Palestinians have returned to what is left of their homes.

Kushner and Witkoff were key negotiators in helping Israel and the terrorist organization Hamas reach a ceasefire deal, the premise of which was based on a 20-point blueprint from the White House. In an interview with “60 Minutes” in October, Kushner said the success or failure of the peace plan would depend on whether Israel and the international partners involved can create “a viable alternative” to Hamas’ violent tactics.

“If they are successful, Hamas will fail, and Gaza will not be a threat to Israel in the future,” Kushner told “60 Minutes.”

Earlier this week, Witkoff announced the U.S. was moving into what the White House has called the second phase of the Gaza peace plan. In a post to X, Witkoff said this involved Hamas returning the remains of the final deceased hostage still in Gaza.

“Failure to do so will bring serious consequences,” Witkoff wrote.

Now, there will be a number of huge challenges going forward, including the deployment of an international security force to supervise the ceasefire deal and the difficult process of disarming Hamas.

The White House also announced the members of another board, the “Gaza Executive Board,” which will work with Mladenov, the technocratic committee and the international stabilization force.

Witkoff, Kushner, Blair, Rowan and Mladenov will also sit on that board. Additional members include Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan; Qatari diplomat Ali Al-Thawadi; Hassan Rashad, director of Egypt’s General Intelligence Agency; Emirati minister Reem Al-Hashimy; Israeli businessman Yakir Gabay and Sigrid Kaag, the Netherlands’ former deputy prime minister and a Middle East expert.

GHOST Release Long-Hidden Cover of PET SHOP BOYS’ “It’s A Sin”

0

As Ghost unveiled Chapter 24 of their wildly popular webisode series yesterday — fittingly titled “Frater Is Delegating” — the band have also unearthed a long-rumored fan favorite. Their cover of Pet Shop Boys‘ classic “It’s A Sin” is now officially available across all major streaming platforms for the first time.

Previously, the track was only accessible as a 7″ vinyl bonus single included with deluxe editions of Ghost‘s 2018 album Prequelle, making it one of the more elusive recordings in the band’s catalog. With its theatrical weight, pounding low end, and darkly reverent atmosphere, the cover feels right at home in Ghost‘s canon — and vindicates co-writer Neil Tennant‘s long-standing claim that “‘It’s a Sin’, at its heart, is a heavy metal record.”

The streaming debut arrives amid a flurry of momentum for the GRAMMY-winning Swedish outfit. Ghost‘s song “Lachryma” has been nominated for Best Metal Performance at the 2026 GRAMMY Awards. Should it take home the trophy, it would mark the band’s second GRAMMY win, following their 2016 victory for “Cirice.”

On the live front, Ghost are also preparing to unleash their latest ritual cycle. The band’s Skeletour Tour launches January 21 at the Kia Center in Orlando, FL, kicking off a 20-date North American run that concludes February 23 at the Intuit Dome in Los Angeles. Check out the dates for Ghost‘s Skeletour 2026 below and get your tickets here.

Caps GM says Ovechkin future talk will ‘have to wait’ amid playoff push

0

ARLINGTON, Va. — The season is more than half over, and amid a sluggish stretch, the Washington Capitals are still hoping to make a successful push for the postseason.

The bigger question — will Alex Ovechkin be back next season? — still looms in the background.

“He seems very focused on kind of the short term here, and this team trying to get into the playoffs and having another shot at winning the Stanley Cup,” general manager Chris Patrick said. “So yeah, you guys are going to continue to have to wait.”

Ovechkin is in the final year of his contract, and at age 40, he has managed to reach 20 goals again — just as he did in each of his previous 20 NHL seasons. Whether he’s ready to wrap up his career with the Capitals remains just as unclear as it was back at the beginning of the season.

Patrick spoke with reporters Friday and said when he has talked to Ovechkin, it hasn’t really been about the Russian star’s plans beyond 2025-26.

“Haven’t really had that conversation,” Patrick said. “We talked a little bit just about where the team is and what he feels we need and what I feel we need. But it didn’t really get too much into his future outside of this year.”

The Capitals have managed to stay competitive as Ovechkin has aged, missing the playoffs just once in the past 11 seasons and avoiding a full rebuild. That’s in part because Ovechkin himself has remained a productive goal scorer, tallying 44 last season while breaking Wayne Gretzky’s career record.

Ovechkin is now up to 917 for his career, but after a strong start, the Capitals haven’t won back-to-back games since the first few days of December. They’re very much on the playoff bubble right now, and Patrick made it clear Washington is looking for help before the March 6 trade deadline.

“Definitely actively pursuing an addition,” Patrick said. “With as many teams in the mix right now playoffwise as there are, I think teams are very much trying to figure out their timing and what they need to do and when they want to do it.”

On Friday, the New York Rangers made it clear they are open to being moving players when they posted a letter to that effect from GM Chris Drury on social media. New York is in last place in the Eastern Conference.

The Capitals, on the other hand, are tied for third in the Metropolitan Division despite injuries to some key players. Pierre-Luc Dubois hasn’t played since Oct. 31 but is back skating again. Tom Wilson hasn’t played since Jan. 3.

“We view our biggest need as kind of a higher-end, skilled winger. Those aren’t always available at the deadline,” Patrick said. “We’re going to keep trying to pursue those guys if they’re out there.”

And while Ovechkin’s future remains uncertain, it doesn’t sound like that will impact Washington’s deadline plans much. The Capitals are in playoff contention and were the top seed in the East last season, so it makes sense for them to be buyers. But even if Ovechkin’s retirement is imminent, they have plenty of key players signed long term, so there’s no reason to mortgage their future too much.

“I hope that whatever we do kind of fits both,” Patrick said. “I hope we can do something that helps us short term, for this team getting in the playoffs again, for Alex to have another run at the playoffs, and also helps long term for whenever it is he’s not on the team.”
