It’s a new era at Stamford Bridge and the Blues have taken a big bet by bringing in English manager Liam Rosenior to lead the club. Only 41, this is a tall task for Rosenior to come from Strasbourg to Chelsea, but history is also in his favor. Chelsea have twice won the Champions League in their history, lifting the trophy in 2012 and 2021. Each time, Chelsea changed their manager midseason and ended up winning the competition. With Rosenior replacing Enzo Maresca, the Blues are looking to secure a top-eight place in the league phase and direct passage to the round of 16 as they host former player David Luiz and Pafos on Wednesday.
Plenty is being said about Rosenior’s experience, but in European soccer, he brings the same level of experience as Maresca, who led Chelsea to a Europa Conference League title and glory at the Club World Cup. Rosenior was managing Strasbourg in the Conference League this season before taking over the Blues, and despite only managing two matches so far, he was able to keep Chelsea competitive, facing Arsenal in a League Cup defeat before engineering a shutout victory over Brentford. But he’s aware that, despite this being the first match that he’ll manage in the Champions League, not much changes preparation-wise.
“I’m proud to be here [managing in the Champions League]. Like I’ve said before, my focus is on winning the game. My focus is on success here, so I’m preparing a game like we would any other game to make sure we put in the best performance to give us a chance of winning the game,” Rosenior said in his pre-match press conference.
A player who has already been key for the new manager is Argentine midfielder Enzo Fernández. He has a goal and two assists in two matches under Rosenior and seems set to be a central figure in what Chelsea will do moving forward, and Rosenior expressed how important Fernandez is to him. That should come as no surprise when Fernandez has been able to move from being a defensive midfielder to being a box-to-box midfielder or operate as a No. 10, all with amazing effectiveness. Along with Declan Rice and Bruno Guimaraes, Fernandez is one of the most well-rounded midfielders in the Premier League and in the world. If he can combine well with Cole Palmer down the stretch, the Blues can absolutely become a dark-horse contender to win this competition.
Rosenior teams have a reputation of being hard to break down defensively, so with his system coming into play, Chelsea just need a set attack that can make things happen. With Fernendez’s versatility, they have a leg up. While the Blues will need to prove that they can take down teams like Arsenal in the future, showing that they’re competitive now means there is another gear that Rosenior can help them unlock, but it all begins with defeating Pafos on Wednesday.

INDIANAPOLIS — A month after Daniel Jones sustained a torn right Achilles tendon, with his rehabilitation barely underway and his lower leg still entirely immobilized, the Indianapolis Colts quarterback was wheeling his way around NRG Stadium in Houston, roughly 1,000 miles away from the comforts of his living room.
Jones didn’t need to be there.
It was the final game of the season, with the Colts already eliminated from the playoffs. And navigating his way onto the team flight, with his right leg of little use to him, could not have been easy. What’s more, Jones is headed for potential free agency in the spring, as he is not under contract with the Colts for 2026.
And, yet, there was, doing what he could to help rookie quarterback Riley Leonard, conducting himself like a player very much invested in his team.
“He’s in every meeting,” coach Shane Steichen said a few days prior to the season finale. “… He comes to every practice. He’s always around. Still in the QB meetings. Off days, he’s in the QB room, studying the tape, preparing, even though he’s not playing. Still going through everything. So, he’s still fully engaged.”
When asked about his presence, Jones joked, “It’s not like I’d be doing anything else.”
The whole scene said quite a bit about Jones’ intentions for the future. He wants to be in Indianapolis, and the Colts want him there.
But that’s where the questions begin.
Among them: How will negotiations play out given Jones’ significant injury? Does signing Jones to a multiyear deal make sense, and how much skepticism should the Colts have that Jones will be ready for the start of the 2026 season?
Jones had a career year in the 13 games he played before his injury, with career highs in passing yards (3,101), yards per attempt (8.1), completion rate (68%) and QBR (63.5). He knows coming back to Indianapolis to pair with Steichen and his offensive expertise makes sense.
“I learned a lot, I think, just being around these coaches,” Jones said, “being in the system, learning from Shane, learning from everybody here. Very, very grateful and appreciative of everyone and the experience here.”
At the same time, Jones acknowledges the realities that lie ahead.
“Obviously, there’s a business side to it, and I understand that,” he said.
When Jones was rolling along pre-injury, with the Colts lighting up scoreboards and ranking among the best offenses in the league in numerous categories, Jones seemed headed for a very lucrative deal in the spring. But the injury complicates things at least a little, even if the Colts maintain he will emerge just fine.
Asked whether the injury impacts the negotiations, general manager Chris Ballard said, “Of course. But we’ll work through that with his agent.”
There are bound to be some variables that will need to be confronted during contract talks. The Colts, for example, might wish to be conservative with guaranteed money given the uncertainty the injury creates. How Jones’ camp responds is a key question. If consensus is hard to achieve, does the franchise tag — projected to be north of $45 million for one year — come into play?
A related issue: What is the appropriate length of the contract? The Colts think Jones has the potential to be a solution at quarterback for the foreseeable future, with Ballard saying, “I’m looking at him both near and long [term]. … When you’re chasing the quarterback all the time, it makes it very hard. Like, your margin for error really shrinks down. And I feel very good about Daniel Jones and where he’s at, where he’s going.”
As for the injury itself, the Colts are extremely optimistic. Jones, for his part, has little doubt about the outcome despite the injury occurring on Dec. 7.
“I think, obviously, it’s a long process in recovery and there’s a time frame to it,” he said. “You’ve got to check a lot of boxes along the way, but I expect to be ready to go by training camp. So, we’ll attack the process and make sure I’m ready to go.”
Said Ballard: “I do feel confident that he will make it back. Will he be the version you saw right away? Maybe not, but he’s still going to be really good. I think as he goes along and plays, he’ll be fine.”
Are the Colts being too confident about Jones’ availability for the start of the 2026 season? The Colts are taking their cues from other quarterbacks who have successfully bounced back from the injury.
That list includes Atlanta’s Kirk Cousins, who tore an Achilles in Week 8 of the 2023 season and returned for the start of 2024 season. He played at an acceptable level, completing 65% of his attempts and averaging 216 passing yards per game in the first month of the season.
Aaron Rodgers, then with the New York Jets, had a full year to recover from an Achilles injury heading into the 2024 season. He started well enough, completing 64.1% of his attempts and averaging 212 passing yards in his first month back. Rodgers has offered Jones advice on attacking his rehab during phone conversations in the weeks since Jones was injured.
But there are also horror stories, like that of Cleveland’s Deshaun Watson. He re-ruptured his Achilles during rehab following his original October 2024 injury. That issue is considered a rare occurrence among athletes who undergo surgical repair, as Jones and these other quarterbacks have.
The Colts are still evaluating what other quarterback moves they might make, but they currently seem inclined to consider Leonard as a backup option to Jones in the event there are delays in his recovery. The future of Anthony Richardson Sr., the team’s 2023 first-round pick, is uncertain.
In any case, barring a stunning turn of events, Jones will be the Colts’ starting quarterback in 2026.
Said Ballard: “I think Daniel Jones has got a really bright future here in Indianapolis.”

BOGOTA, Colombia — Colombia’s president on Tuesday reduced wages for members of Congress by approximately 30%, as the South American nation faces a budget crunch and gets ready to hold elections in the first semester of this year.
Congress members in Colombia earned approximately $13,000 a month last year, an amount that was about 32 times greater than the nation’s minimum wage.
The vast disparity in the earnings of legislators and average Colombians has often come under scrutiny in the South American country, with some members of Congress in recent years proposing bills to reduce their own wages.
But those initiatives have failed multiple times, and have been blocked by legislators who have argued that they need high wages for myriad reasons, that include investing their savings into future political campaigns.
With a decree issued on Tuesday, Colombian President Gustavo Petro eliminated a portion of the wages of Congress members known as the “bonus for special services” that was introduced over a decade ago to help cover relocation costs for members of Congress.
Without this bonus, wages received by Colombia’s pampered legislators will drop to about $9,400 a month, in a country where most workers earn monthly wages of about $500 or less.
In its decree Tuesday, Colombia’s government said that wages currently received by legislators are “disproportionate in relation to the average income of the (nation’s) population and the country’s economic reality.”
“Austerity measures are necessary to the extent that they don’t affect the fundamental rights of citizens” the decree said.
The measure will come into effect in July once a new Congress has been elected. Colombia holds legislative elections in March, which will be followed by presidential elections in May.
The move was praised by some members of Congress, including senator Angélica Lozano who described it on X as “a minimal measure of equity.”
However the president of Colombia’s senate Lidio García criticized the wage reduction, saying that Petro was trying to “punish” legislators who did not approve his social and economic reforms, including a tax bill that was rejected by Congress in December.
“While he was a congressman, for almost 20 years, Gustavo Petro received the special services bonus, without complaining about it,” García wrote on his X account.
Colombia’s government recently issued an economic emergency decree that enables Petro to raise taxes without congressional approval.
The government says it is trying to increase its budget by $4 billion this year, to cover payments to health insurance companies, pay for fuel subsidies and invest around $700 million in infrastructure that will enable the military to counter drone attacks from rebel groups.
Public spending has ballooned under Petro, Colombia’s first left wing president, to levels that exceed spending during the COVID-19 pandemic. Colombia’s national government had a budget of approximately $134 billion in 2025.
Tucker Zimmerman, a cult hero of the folk genre, died in a house fire with his wife Marie-Claire Lambert on Saturday (Jan. 17), according to WKYC.
He was 84 years old at the time of his death (no age was immediately available for Lambert.) The couple had been married for 50 years.
How Did Tucker Zimmerman Die?
Producer Tony Visconti, who worked with Zimmerman for much of his career, shared the news on Facebook on Jan. 18, stating that Zimmerman’s son Quanah Zimmerman told him that the singer and his wife “perished in a house fire yesterday.”
American Songwriter reports that residents of Zimmerman’s neighborhood in Saint-Georges-sur-Meuse, Liège — a municipality in Belgium — notified authorities after seeing the house ablaze.
Tragically, first responders were unable to save the singer and his wife.
Who Was Tucker Zimmerman?
Born in San Francisco, Calif. in 1941, Zimmerman played violin growing up and studied music theory and composition in college. In the mid-1960s, he moved to Rome to continue his studies after being awarded a Fulbright scholarship.
He released his first album, Ten Songs, in 1968 and became a prominent member of the folk music movement, garnering comparisons to Bob Dylan and praise from superstars such as David Bowie.
He also wrote novels, short stories and poems and composed music for movies and orchestras. Most recently, Zimmerman released an album called Dance of Love in 2024 that was produced by indie band Big Thief, who also collaborated on the music of the project.
Zimmerman met Marie-Claire Lambert in 1967 while studying in Rome. At the time, she was working at the Belgian embassy. Their love story spanned decades, and Zimmerman credited her for standing by his side “thru thick and thin, storms and calm weather, rain, ice and heat waves,” according to a biography listed on his website.
“Without her I would be nowhere in this world except six-feet under,” he wrote. “Her love for me and her faith in what I do is beyond belief. She is my guide. She is my muse. She is my driver.”
Remembering Tucker Zimmerman
In addition to their son Quanah, Zimmerman and Lambert leave behind two young grandchildren.
In his social media tribute, Visconti remembered Zimmerman as a “master musician” whose work was “biting and revolutionary.” He also said that Zimmerman was “one of my oldest friends.”
“If you haven’t heard Tucker’s music, it was like a very dark version of Bob Dylan,” Visconti wrote at the conclusion of his remembrance. “I’m all choked up.”
