Maine governor requests meeting with Trump over ICE deployment, citing Minnesota shooting
Row erupts within UK’s Labour Party after popular mayor blocked from election
LONDON — A row erupted Sunday within Britain’s governing Labour Party after the ambitious mayor of Manchester was prevented from trying to re-enter Parliament at a special election in the city in the coming weeks, with critics claiming that Prime Minister Keir Starmer did not want to see a potential rival back in the House of Commons.
Andy Burnham, who has been in charge of the Greater Manchester region since 2017, made a request to Labour’s governing committee on Saturday to stand as the party’s candidate in the upcoming election for the Gorton and Denton constituency, which is expected to take place by the end of February.
If he ended up winning that election in a traditionally safe Labour seat, then he would have to stand down from his job as mayor, meaning that there would likely have to be another special election there. Burnham’s mandate ends in May 2028.
The decision to block Burnham was made by a 10-strong group of Labour’s National Executive Committee, the body behind the party’s election machinery.
Labour said the NEC had decided to deny Burnham permission to stand in order to avoid “an unnecessary election” for Manchester mayor, which “would have a substantial and disproportionate impact on party campaign resources.”
Labour is widely predicted to suffer a drubbing at a raft of elections in May — Britain’s equivalent of the U.S. midterms. If current opinion polls are any guide, then Labour is expected to lose power in Wales for the first time since the legislature was created in 1999, fall way short of reclaiming power in Scotland and get battered in local elections in England.
Since winning July 2024’s general election by a landslide, Labour has seen its poll ratings tank, partly because of a series of policy missteps, which have been directly linked to Starmer’s decision-making.
Other parties, including the anti-immigration Reform U.K. and the Greens, have been the main beneficiaries of Labour’s apparent drop in support.
The prime minister’s poll ratings are particularly dire at present and many inside the party think he may face a leadership challenge if May’s elections end up being as bad as predicted.
Burnham, who served in Labour governments in the 2000s under prime ministers Tony Blair and Gordon Brown, has made no secret of his ambition to lead the party at some stage in the future. Burnham, widely known as the “King of the North” in reference to the television fantasy show “Game of Thrones,” has twice before fought for the Labour leadership and lost.
Though Burnham insisted he would be a team player in his request on Saturday, many Starmer allies appear unconvinced given he has expressed several views that put him at odds with the prime minister, notably on economic policy. Last September, he said he wanted to “launch a debate” about the direction of policy and how to defeat Reform.
Labour lawmaker John Slinger said the “quick and clear decision” meant the party could “move on from the damaging introspection and psychodrama of the last week” and “pull together” behind the eventual candidate.
Others were aghast at the decision.
Former Cabinet minister Louise Haigh said it was “incredibly disappointing” and called for the NEC to “change course and make the right decision.”

Conceptually, Henson frames the song less as a moral statement and more as a meditation on choice and agency. “If you’re forced to do the right thing, it doesn’t mean anything,” he said. “That idea — freedom, temptation, consequence — is something I’ve been thinking about a lot.”
That philosophy extends beyond the music itself. The “Original Sin” title functions as a metaphor for creation and the accompanying video visually reinforces that tension. The same mindset carries into Henson‘s newly announced Original Sin clothing brand, envisioned as a high-end creative extension of the release. According to Henson, the line merges elevated design with the same meticulous attention to detail that defines his music.
While Polyphia remains a central focus for 2026, this solo release offers a rare detour — one that highlights Henson‘s curiosity beyond band dynamics. With millions of followers across Instagram, TikTok and YouTube, his reach extends far past guitar culture, intersecting with fashion, philosophy, design and forward-thinking art.

Breaking down Pats-Broncos, Rams-Seahawks via Next Gen Stats

Many think conference championship Sunday is the best day of NFL football, because it features two potentially great games and more focus on football than on Super Bowl spectacle.
And one of the most intriguing storylines Sunday is Denver Broncos quarterback Jarrett Stidham, who is starting in place of the injured Bo Nix. This will be Stidham’s first start since 2023 and the fifth since he was drafted in 2019.
But Stidham’s résumé does have some positives. He had an expected points added (EPA) per dropback of +0.04 and a success rate of 46.1% in his past four years (149 total pass attempts), according to Next Gen Stats. Both are above the league averages (-0.03 EPA/DB, 44.2% success rate) in that span. In fact, Stidham’s success rate from his past four years combined (46.1%) was higher than Nix’s this season (44.5%).
Meanwhile, Los Angeles Rams QB Matthew Stafford had a success rate of just 30.4% in the divisional round overtime win over the Chicago Bears. That was the ninth-lowest among the 238 playoff starting quarterbacks in the past 10 years. Stafford was the only QB in the bottom 15 who didn’t lose.
Here is a deeper look at the two conference championship games through the lens of Next Gen Stats.
Can the Broncos exploit Patriots left tackle Will Campbell?
In two playoff games against the Los Angeles Chargers and Houston Texans, Campbell allowed 10 pressures, including four sacks, in 73 pass-blocking reps (13.7%). That’s the most pressures and sacks for the Patriots.
But expect offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels to help him. The Patriots provided chip block help to both Campbell and right tackle Morgan Moses. Campbell received chip help on 13.3% of his pass sets, the eighth-highest mark among left tackles, and Moses received chip help on 15% of his pass sets, the sixth-highest mark among right tackles (with a minimum of 200 pass blocks).
In the Broncos’ win over the Bills, their pass rush pressured quarterback Josh Allen on 32% of his dropbacks. In the regular season, the Broncos led the league in sacks (68). One of their preferred strategies was sending at least five pass rushers. Denver did it 33.7% of the time and generated a 50% pressure rate, finishing with 29 sacks, second most.
Drake Maye recorded +62.8 EPA on passes over 20 air yards in the regular season, the most in the NFL.

But blitzing Patriots quarterback Drake Maye could be costly. Against the blitz this season, Maye finished with 1,491 passing yards (second), 15 touchdowns (tied for third), a passer rating of 129.2 (first) and an EPA dropback of .28 (third).
Against the Texans, Maye had a passer rating of 103 with a touchdown against the blitz. The Texans didn’t do it often (only 18% of his dropbacks), but when they did, Maye capitalized.
Also, when pressured, Maye averaged a league-high 8.8 yards per attempt, and his 10 touchdown passes tied Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert for the most. One of the reasons he’s effective under pressure is he’ll push the ball down field, but that can lead to mistakes.
Through two playoff games, Maye has been strip-sacked five times and lost two fumbles. In the Broncos’ divisional round win over the Bills, outside linebacker Nik Bonitto recorded a strip sack, which was then recovered by defensive tackle Malcolm Roach.
So, keep eyes on Maye’s ball security.
From a secondary standpoint, Patriots All-Pro cornerback Christian Gonzalez was tested 16 times in the divisional round. He allowed just seven catches for 58 yards. Overall, in his two playoff games he has allowed a 33.3% completion percentage with three pass breakups.
The other side features a superstar cornerback in Broncos veteran Pat Surtain II. He has aligned as the full-time boundary — short-side — cornerback in each of the Broncos’ past three games, playing 118 snaps as the boundary corner. Surtain had played 321 snaps as the boundary corner and 238 snaps as the field corner this season.
Drake Maye completed 16 of 27 passes for 179 yards, three touchdowns, and an interception in the Patriots’ Divisional Round win over the Texans.

Why does it matter? Surtain was targeted on just 11.4% of his snaps as the boundary corner, the second-lowest mark among 64 cornerbacks who played at least 100 such snaps. He allowed 0.6 yards per coverage snap (fifth fewest).
When it comes to Maye’s deep passing versus the Broncos defending the deep pass, we’ll see strength versus strength.
Maye’s 52.1% deep ball completion percentage was the second highest this season. But the Broncos’ 20.4% deep completion percentage allowed was the lowest. The Broncos did not allow a single completion on Allen’s nine deep passes in the divisional round, intercepting two of the throws.
Los Angeles Rams at Seattle Seahawks, 6:30 p.m. ET, Fox
This matchup features two superstar receivers in Seattle’s Jaxon Smith-Njigba and the Rams’ Puka Nacua, and while Davante Adams isn’t the All-Pro receiver he once was, he’s still a dangerous threat.
Nacua averaged a league-high 3.8 yards per route this season and Smith-Njigba averaged 3.7 yards per route. They were at least 1.2 yards per route above the next-closest player — the Baltimore Ravens‘ Zay Flowers (2.5).
Matthew Stafford threw 28 passing touchdowns from under center this season, more than double any other quarterback except his NFC Championship opponent Sam Darnold (18).

The Rams must pay attention to Nacua in motion. He gained a league-high 473 receiving yards on snaps after he went in motion, the most by any player in a season since at least 2018. This also marks back-to-back seasons in which he has gained at least 400 such yards.
Smith-Njigba led the NFL with 956 receiving yards when aligned in the slot last season, then followed it up by leading the league with 1,378 receiving yards when aligned out wide this season. He is the first player in the Next Gen Stats era (since 2016) to lead the NFL in receiving yards from the slot in one season and from out wide in another.
Smith-Njigba can hurt you at either spot, but he aligned out wide on 81.4% of his snaps this season. He was able to turn that into a league-high 44 explosive receptions (15-plus yards), the most by any wide receiver in a season over the past two years.
He and Nacua can cook defenses running any type of route, too. Smith-Njigba gained 100 or more receiving yards on eight different route types this season. The only other wideout to do that? You guessed it, Nacua.
Smith-Njigba ranked top five on five different routes, including go routes, where his 279 yards were his most on any route. Nacua led in receiving yards on post routes (278 yards) and in-routes (253). Both players excelled when running in-breaking routes, as Smith-Njigba (828 yards) trailed Nacua’s league-leading yardage mark of 831 by three yards.
One strength for the Seahawks is quarterback Sam Darnold and play-action, and that’s also a weakness for the Rams.
The Rams struggled to defend play-action, specifically when they used base personnel. In base personnel, they allowed a 78.0% completion percentage and 10.9 yards per attempt when defending play-action with that grouping on the field, both of which ranked as the second-highest marks in the NFL.
They were much better when they had a nickel grouping in defending play-action. They allowed a 64.2% completion percentage and 6.7 yards per attempt, both of which ranked below the league average marks of 66.8% and 7.9.
With play-action, Darnold is tied for the highest EPA per dropback (.41) among starters and his total EPA is 58.8, the highest.
The Seahawks use dime packages to get Devon Witherspoon, Riq Woolen, and Josh Jobe on the field at the same time.

In the trenches, the Seahawks’ pass rush generated the fourth-highest pressure rate (38.9%) and the Rams’ offensive line allowed the second-lowest pressure rate this season (27.3%) despite facing the sixth-highest blitz rate (32.9%).
On the flip side, the Rams generated the fifth-highest pressure rate (38.0%) and the Seahawks’ offensive line allowed the fifth-lowest pressure rate this season (29.2%).
When it comes to pressure from the inside, Sunday will feature the top four defensive tackle duos in total pressures generated:

Watch Ree Drummond + Ladd Save a Baby Cow Stuck in the Snow
A winter storm raging across much of the U.S. this weekend created a scary situation at the ranch owned by The Pioneer Woman Ree Drummond and her cattle rancher husband Ladd.
Fortunately, the couple were there to help — and this story has a happy ending.
On social media, Drummond explained that Ladd was out feeding the cows when he noticed that one, who had given birth the day before, was engorged and didn’t have her baby calf with her.
They immediately set out to try to find and rescue the calf.

Ladd and Drummond went out to a spot where they’d seen the mother cow and her baby earlier, and luckily, they spotted the calf.
The bad news? He was hungry and very cold, amid snowfall and frigid temperatures across the Oklahoma county where the ranch is located.
Drummond got video of the moment when Ladd found the little cow and scooped her up, loading her into their truck so that they could bring the baby to safety.
“Since the mama was so swollen, the calf wouldn’t have been able to nurse — so Ree and Ladd took the baby to their garage for a bit,” the caption reads. “Next, the guys saddled their horses, rode out in the snow, roped the mama cow and milked her so they could get her swelling down and also collect the colostrum — so essential for the calf’s survival and health.”
The video shows Drummond bottle-feeding the newborn calf, who eagerly starts drinking, even lapping up some of the milk that spilled on the mats underneath her.
“You know what’s gonna happen next? He’s gonna poop in the garage,” Ladd jokes at one point in the video.
By the end of the feeding, the calf perked up considerably, and was even able to walk on her own around the garage.
“Tomorrow when the sun comes up, Ladd will try to get her back with her mama,” the post concludes.
But the baby might have formed a special bond with Drummond through the experience: “I guess I’m his mommy now,” she jokes at one point.

Ree and Ladd Drummond became grandparents for the first time in December 2024, when their daughter Alex and her husband Mauricio welcomed a baby girl named Sofia.

The Pioneer Woman star has kept fans updated on baby Sofia since, as well as opening up about the bittersweet emotions that come along with watching her daughter have her first baby.

2026 NFC Championship Game odds, predictions: Rams vs. Seahawks picks from expert on 28-10 run
A pair of NFC West behemoths meet when the fifth-seeded Los Angeles Rams battle the top-seeded Seattle Seahawks in the 2026 NFC Championship Game on Sunday. This will be the third meeting between the teams this season with both previous games decided by two points or fewer. Los Angeles earned a 21-19 win on Nov. 16, before Seattle outlasted the Rams 38-37 in overtime on Dec. 18. The Rams (12-5), who are coming off a 20-17 overtime win over the Chicago Bears on Sunday, are 7-4 on the road this season, including the postseason. The Seahawks (14-3), who defeated San Francisco 41-6 on Saturday, are 7-2 on their home field. Seattle will be without running back Zach Charbonnet (knee), who was injured in the win over San Francisco.
Kickoff is set for 6:30 p.m. ET at Lumen Field in Seattle. The Seahawks leads the all-time series 29-28. Why the Seahawks can cover
Quarterback Sam Darnold helps power the Seattle offense. In 17 games during the regular season, he completed 67.7% of his passes for 4,048 yards and 25 touchdowns with 14 interceptions and a 99.1 rating. In the overtime win over the Rams on Dec. 18, he completed 22 of 34 passes for 270 yards and two touchdowns with two interceptions. He completed 21 of 24 passes for 330 yards and four touchdowns with one pick in a 38-14 win over the Washington Commanders on Nov. 2.
Despite losing Charbonnet, the Seahawks still have a formidable rushing attack. Fourth-year veteran running back Kenneth Walker II leads Seattle in rushing. Veteran quarterback Matthew Stafford leads the Los Angeles offensive attack. In 17 regular-season games, the MVP candidate completed 65% of his passes for 4,707 yards and 46 touchdowns with just eight interceptions. In the divisional playoff win over Chicago, he completed 20 of 42 passes for 258 yards. He completed 24 of 42 passes for 304 yards and three touchdowns with one interception in a 34-31 win at Carolina in the Wild Card round on Jan. 10.
Third-year veteran wide receiver Puka Nacua is his top target. In two postseason games, he has 15 receptions for 167 yards (11.1 average) and one touchdown.
