In a recent interview with Scott Penfold of Loaded Radio, veteran bassist and songwriter Bob Daisley offered rare insight into the status of his famed “Holy Grail” tapes — a trove of recordings featuring early Ozzy Osbourne sessions and the late guitar legend Randy Rhoads.
The 75-year-old musician, who contributed heavily to Osbourne‘s early solo catalog, described the tapes as roughly seven to eight hours of rehearsal material, jams, and candid studio moments.
“Well, you see, the copyright on those songs and on those performances is not owned outright by me,” Daisley explained. “They’re my tapes and I made them. They’re only really reference tapes of when we were writing stuff in the rehearsal room.
“I had a big portable cassette player and a condenser mic on it, so I just recorded everything on the tape, just as our reference so we wouldn’t forget parts. If we had new bits or were adding bits or changing bits or whatever, we’d have a record of it the next day so we didn’t forget. That’s the only reason I recorded them.”
Daisley described the tapes as a mix of material ranging from serious rehearsal snippets to lighthearted moments captured in the studio. “Some of it’s us just clowning about and being silly and talking daft and messing about, having a laugh, sometimes half drunk, but it’s all there as the band.
“There’s even some bits of us jamming at Ridge Farm [studio in Rusper, England, where both Blizzard of Ozz and Diary of a Madman were recorded] the day we got there, which was the 22nd of March, 1980. We were just getting sounds and getting used to the studio. Max Norman, he was the house engineer. He was just getting used to miking us. So there’s some jam stuff and us clowning about, so I’ve got all that on tape.”
When asked if fans might ever get to hear the recordings, Daisley remained candid. “Look, if I’d had my way, I would’ve had it out there and released years ago. It’s really out of my hands.”
The so-called “Holy Grail” tapes remain one of rock and metal’s most legendary unreleased archives, offering a behind-the-scenes glimpse of the creative chemistry between Osbourne, Rhoads, and Daisley during a formative period in heavy metal history.

The obnoxious modem screamed and screeched, AOL’s door opened and closed, and suddenly the whole phone line was off-limits while someone “logged on.” Hip ’90s kids were also busy feeding their Tamagotchis between classes while parents printed out directions from MapQuest, and everyone was sharing A/S/L in chat rooms they probably had no business being in.

But the ’90s will forever be remembered as the last decade that truly had a shared consciousness before everything became perfectly personalized and algorithm-driven. We all watched the same shows, heard the same songs, and showed off the same fashion trends at the mall. When swing dancing made a huge comeback thanks to a Gap commercial, it felt like the whole country moved together.
Before smartphones and algorithms, there were AOL logins, floppy disks, mall hangouts, and one family computer everyone had to share.

Macclesfield were unable to re-create the magic of last month’s FA Cup win over Crystal Palace, with a Sam Heathcote own goal sending Brentford through to the fifth round 1-0 after a spirited contest at Moss Rose.
Premier League side Brentford sat 116 places above the National League North team at the start of the evening Monday — one less than the Palace side that was famously humbled here in January — but the gulf between the teams was turned on its head as John Rooney’s part-timers dominated the first half.
A Bees side showing seven changes could not match the will or the skill of a Macclesfield team with a taste for giant-killing and the promise of a fifth-round trip to West Ham awaiting.
But they were not quite able to steal a lead and were unable to keep their fierce tempo as the game progressed.
Keith Andrews’ team was far from top-flight standard but set up camp in the final third and probed until something fell its way. That moment came in the 70th minute, Aaron Hickey finding space on the left and firing in a cross that the unlucky Heathcote glanced agonizingly past his own keeper.
Macclesfield dominated the first period, first to every ball and bristling with an intent that their more glamourous opponents could not come near. The only thing they failed to do was find the net.
The tone was set instantly, less than a minute gone when Isaac Buckley-Ricketts won a free kick, which Paul Dawson headed over. Both men were scorers against holders Palace and came ready to repeat the feat.
Brentford’s altered XI, meanwhile, looked slow and disjointed, hurried and hassled by the home side. Luke Duffy was doing a particularly good job of squeezing their space and collected one horribly ill-judged pass across the edge of the area before firing over.
Yehor Yarmolyuk had his pocket picked by the double act of Duffy and D’Mani Mellor in the 18th minute, earning Dawson a clear sight of goal. The skipper lined up a drive from 20 yards, but saw it skim agonizingly wide as the atmosphere cranked up a notch in response.
The Bees were timid by comparison, frequently looking for Romelle Donovan’s quick feet on the right but struggling to do better than a goalmouth scramble and a wayward header from debutant Kaye Furo, a recent arrival from Club Brugge.
Their error count rose again when Vitaly Janelt slipped under pressure from Duffy and dragged him down with space opening up behind him. A yellow card followed, but he might have spared his side much worse.
A rare break from Brentford saw Max Dearnley save well from Reiss Nelson, but the halftime stalemate flattered the visitors.
The tempo shifted after the restart, Brentford causing problems from back-to-back corners and seeing two teasing crosses go unconverted as they finally exerted some pressure.
The corners kept coming as Macclesfield were penned back, one coming when Mathias Jensen’s chipped pass into the box kept going and forced Dearnley to tip over.
A moment of indecision from goalkeeper Hákon Valdimarsson almost let Macclesfield substitute James Gale in but moments later the decisive goal arrived. Hickey burrowed in down the left and fired in his cross, only for Heathcote to make first contact and flash a header into his own net.
The crowd roared for an equalizer as a failed penalty claim for handball against Michael Kayode came to nothing.
When Mellor found a good position inside the box, two brave blocks prevented the fairy tale from stretching into extra time but a harsh second was averted when Brentford squandered a breakaway in the closing seconds.
Defending Olympic champion Eileen Gu took silver in freeski big air at the Milan Cortina Games as Canada’s Megan Oldham won the gold medal on Monday night.
Oldham topped the 10-woman final with a combined score of 180.75 points from two jumps. Gu was next with 179. Italy’s Flora Tabanelli took bronze, four months after she tore an ACL.
This is the second medal for the 24-year-old Oldham at these Winter Games. She won bronze in slopestyle last week.

In 2022, Gu became the first freestyle skier to win three medals in a single Games after taking gold in big air and halfpipe and silver in slopestyle at age 18.
Gu, who was born in the United States but competes for her mother’s native China, has collected five medals in two Olympic appearances. She also won silver in slopestyle last week, and she has a chance at a sixth medal on Saturday, when she tries to defend her halfpipe gold.
Gu hadn’t competed in a big air contest since triumphing at the Beijing Games, concentrating on her other events. But there are enough similarities between big air and slopestyle that she found her rhythm quickly.

Oldham locked up gold with her first two jumps. She had an inconsequential fall on her third jump, the last of the final, which became a victory lap.
Oldham and Gu embraced before they stepped onto the medal podium.
The initial final field of 12 was reduced by two after Mathilde Gremaud and Anouk Andraska, both of Switzerland, got hurt practicing jumps before the final. Gremaud, who defended her slopestyle gold last week, hurt her hip and needed to be stretchered off. Andraska hurt her wrist.
In big air, skiers get three jumps and must land two. Their scores include points for difficulty and execution.
Monday’s final was delayed by more than an hour because of a snowstorm.
