ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – The City of Albuquerque will be tightening its belt this year. That’s according to Mayor Tim Keller, who released his proposed budget on Wednesday, which includes eliminating 247 jobs. Mayor Keller’s administration released his $1.47 billion budget, cutting $35 million from its current spending plan. Albuquerque City Councilor Renée Grout, who is […]
– Liverpool have short-listed Juventus winger Francisco Conceiçao as a potential replacement for the departing Mohamed Salah, Gazzetta dello Sport reports. The Portugal international, 23, has six goal involvements in Serie A this season, having joined Juve last summer from FC Porto for €32 million and is under contract until 2030. While the Italian giants would be reluctant to lose Conceiçao, it is believed a bid in excess of €25 million could bring them to the negotiation table.
– Real Madrid could go all-out to sign a new star striker in the summer of 2027, and Liverpool forward Hugo Ekitike has emerged as an attractive option, according to TEAMtalk. The 23-year-old is reported to be high on their radar following an impressive debut campaign on Merseyside, where he has scored 17 goals in 42 appearances. As such, Ekitike’s situation at Liverpool is being “closely monitored” by Los Blancos, who are also tracking Manchester City forward Erling Haaland but have been put off by a €200 million fee.
– Manchester United are in pole position to sign Toulouse center back Charlie Cresswellthis summer, according to TEAMtalk. Cresswell, 23, is considered one of the top young English defenders around and the England U21 international has previously attracted attention from West Ham, Sunderland and Tottenham Hotspur. However, United are looking to strengthen their defense and the Ligue 1 club will command a reachable fee in the region of €25 million-€30 million.
– Manchester City are ahead of rivals Manchester United in the race to sign Nottingham Forest midfielder Elliot Anderson, as per The Daily Mail. Anderson, 25, is City’s No. 1 priority this summer when it comes to transfers, although his anticipated involvement for England at the World Cup could complicate their pursuit. Both Manchester clubs are wary that an impressive display at the tournament could further increase his £100 million valuation United aren’t willing to give up on signing Anderson just yet, however, with meetings still planned with the player’s representatives.
– Barcelona will attempt to sign Benfica wingerAndreas Schjelderup if a permanent deal for Marcus Rashford cannot be agreed, Record has revealed. The Portuguese outlet suggests that Benfica expect to lose their star forward this summer, who is attracting interest from a host of clubs around Europe. Schjelderup, who scored his first senior goal for Norway last week, has a €100 million release clause in his contract.
EXPERT TAKE
ESPN’s Liverpool correspondent Beth Lindop on the future for Hugo Ekitike.
In a season of few positives for Liverpool, Ekitike has been a rare shining light. The France international’s £69 million signing last summer was somewhat overshadowed by the subsequent £125 million arrival of Alexander Isak from Newcastle United.
However, with Isak having struggled for both form and fitness this term, Ekitike has become Liverpool’s main man and it’s little wonder he has admirers elsewhere. The lure of Real Madrid is always likely to be tempting for a striker who models himself on Madrid legend Karim Benezema but, with Ekitike under contract until June 2031, Liverpool hold all the cards and would surely resist any attempts to prise the 23-year-old away from Anfield.
As far as replacing Salah is concerned, it is an impossible task. As one of Europe’s most promising young wingers, it would be a surprise if Conceição was not on the club’s radar, though concrete interest in the Portugal international is yet to materialize.

An undersea magnitude -7.4 earthquake toppled buildings in parts of northern Indonesia, sent people fleeing from their homes, killed at least one person and generated a small tsunami Thursday.
Waves up to 30 inches above normal tides were recorded at several monitoring stations about a half-hour after the earthquake, which was centered in the Molucca Sea. Indonesia’s meteorological agency lifted its tsunami warning hours after the quake, and the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said there was no destructive threat to the country, which is north of the quake’s epicenter.
Strong shaking lasting 10 to 20 seconds was felt in Bitung in North Sulawesi province as well as in Ternate city in neighboring North Maluku province, according to Indonesia’s Disaster Management Agency.
Initial assessments showed light to severe damage in parts of Ternate, including a church and two houses. In Bitung, damage assessments were still underway, the agency said.
Indonesia’s Search and Rescue Agency reported a 70-year-old woman died in a building collapse in North Sulawesi’s Manado city and another resident was injured. At least three injured people were hospitalized in Ternate.
Videos released by the rescue agency showed damaged structures and flattened houses, while television stations broadcast scenes of people rushing outside and gathering in streets to avoid the risk of collapsing buildings.
Nearly 50 aftershocks were felt in nearby areas.
The U.S. Geological Survey says that a powerful magnitude 7.4 earthquake has struck in the Molucca Sea region northeast of Indonesia.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center in Honolulu said small waves were possible as well in Malaysia, the Philippines, Taiwan and Papua New Guinea, but there was no threat to Hawaii, Guam and other more distant islands.
The quake was strongly felt in Bitung, a coastal city in North Sulawesi province, where residents rushed out of their homes in fear.
“We had just woken up and suddenly the earthquake hit… we all ran out of the house,” resident Marten Mandagi said. “The shaking was very strong,”
Mandagi said he had not seen any damage in his area. “We’re still checking whether there is damage or not. But here we are safe, there are no casualties or destruction,” he said.
Indonesia, a vast archipelago of more than 280 million people, sits on major seismic faults and is frequently hit by earthquakes and volcanic eruptions because of its location on the “Ring of Fire,” an arc of volcanoes and fault lines in the Pacific Basin.
In 2022, a magnitude 5.6 earthquake killed at least 602 people in West Java’s Cianjur city, the deadliest one in Indonesia since a 2018 quake and tsunami in Sulawesi killed more than 4,300 people.
In 2004, an extremely powerful Indian Ocean quake set off a tsunami that killed more than 230,000 people in a dozen countries, most of them in Indonesia’s Aceh province.

Former Albuquerque firefighter files another lawsuit for job back after acquittal on rape charges
Aden Heyman, a former Albuquerque firefighter acquitted of rape charges, is suing again, this time in federal court, for his job back and damages, claiming wrongful termination and defamation.
Aden Heyman, a former Albuquerque firefighter who was acquitted of rape charges last year, is suing yet again for his job back and damages, claiming wrongful termination and defamation.Heyman was one of three Albuquerque firefighters accused of raping a woman nearly three years ago, and one of two to actually go on trial. He has been adamant that he was treated unfairly by Albuquerque Fire Rescue before his trial and wants damages, as well as his job back.Heyman was eventually fired by Albuquerque Fire Rescue after an internal investigation and was also sued by the victim. Court records show that lawsuit is still ongoing. However, Heyman, along with fellow accused firefighter Anthony Martin, were both acquitted on the rape charges two years later. Heyman’s attorney, Jason Bowles, said at the time, “Their careers have been ruined. Their lives have been ruined for two years, and their families have been affected. So, now, thank God they’re free, but now they have to rebuild it all back.”Last year, Heyman sued the city of Albuquerque and Fire Chief Emily Jaramillo, claiming defamation, wrongful termination, and violation of due process rights. That suit was dismissed by a district court judge just last month. Now, another suit has been filed, this time in federal court. It makes similar claims to the previous one, alleging Heyman’s termination from the department was wrongful since it happened before a trial or any admission of guilt. Chief Jaramillo is once again accused of defamation, claiming she branded Heyman as a criminal through public statements before the case went to trial. The suit is asking for back pay, damages for alleged civil rights violations, and even reinstatement at Albuquerque Fire Rescue.A spokesman for Albuquerque Fire Rescue said, “An internal investigation determined the employee violated AFR policies. The city will respond to his allegations in court.”Bowles declined to speak with KOAT about the lawsuit Wednesday.

Barr admitted she was frustrated by the recommendation, questioning why she needed further testing. “I’m so pissed because I’m like, I need a new doctor,” she continued.
“He’s always sending me to other doctors to check me out, and I’m like, why do I have to go find something wrong when nothing’s wrong?” Barr said.
She also questioned the idea of undergoing procedures, adding, “Then get in shape so I can have surgery and die on the surgery table. I mean, well, it doesn’t make any sense.”
Not Interested in Surgery
Barr also shared how she’s approaching her health moving forward.
“I would rather not get ready for any sort of surgery ever again in my life and just get a heart attack or a stroke and just be put into a home,” she said.
Barr rose to fame as the star of Roseanne, which originally aired from 1988 to 1997. A revival of the show was canceled in 2018, later continuing as The Conners, which ran through 2025.

ROME — Nineteen people were found dead and 58 rescued alive by the Italian coast guard, which intercepted a dinghy filled with migrants that was in distress about 80 nautical miles from the southern Italian island of Lampedusa on Tuesday night.
The Italian coast guard operated in the Libyan search and rescue area amid rough weather conditions, a spokesman said on Wednesday.
“We were the only one able to intervene, as there were no other ships or rescue teams in the area. Sea conditions were pretty extreme, with waves of more than 6-7 meters (20-23 feet),” said coast guard spokesman Roberto D’Arrigo.
D’Arrigo said the migrants had probably departed from Libya and the victims likely died of hypothermia, but the cause of the deaths still need to be verified.
The survivors were brought to Lampedusa after a 10-hour trip and are now in the care of local health services, the coast guard said.
The tiny island of Lampedusa is the main entry point to Europe for migrants crossing the Mediterranean Sea from North Africa, with thousands dying during the perilous journey.
Most of the deaths have been attributed to small boats setting off from the coasts of Tunisia and Libya.
The most recent deadly shipwreck off Lampedusa happened in August last year, when a boat carrying nearly 100 migrants capsized in international waters, killing at least 26 people.
