John Mulaney found himself having a conversation with his young son that a lot of parents eventually face.
Most parents, however, don’t have to deal with it in the middle of Graceland.
The comedian recently shared a sweet (and slightly hilarious) story about explaining to his 4-year-old son why he couldn’t meet one of his favorite artists: Elvis Presley.
A Tough Question
During an appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Mulaney recalled visiting Graceland with his son Malcolm, whom he shares with his wife, Olivia Munn.
Mulaney ultimately went with a simple explanation.
“I said, ‘Elvis is in heaven now,’” he shared, noting that Malcolm quickly followed up with a simple question: “Why?”
Trying to keep it age-appropriate — and maybe a little bit Mulaney-style — the comedian added, “Well, sometimes when people are in their early 40s, and they have a job and schedule a lot like daddy … they go to the bathroom and they go to heaven.”
A Parenting Moment He Won’t Forget
The moment was funny, but also a reminder of how unexpectedly those first big life conversations can happen.
Mulaney and Munn share two children together, including Malcolm and their daughter Méi. The couple married in 2024 after first being linked in 2021.
And while Malcolm may not have gotten to meet Elvis, he did get something just as memorable — his first big lesson about the world, straight from his dad.

It didn’t go as planned:
That’s a high throw and an error on Chapman, but it appeared to be catchable on the part of Schmitt. Chapman apparently agreed, as during the ensuing mound visit, he appeared to tell Schmitt to “catch the f—ing ball.”
No doubt, Chapman was also thinking of a similar play in the first inning when Schmitt was charged with an error:
Those plays accounted for both Padre runs, at least until they pulled away in the later innings. After the game, Chapman addressed the mound visit incident with reporters. Via NBC Sports Bay Area:

“We’re trying to win games. I mean, obviously I’m not mad about it or anything. That’s baseball. I mean, those are things I should have done and didn’t.”
In Schmitt’s defense, he’s far more familiar with the other infield positions, and Wednesday marked just his 18th career start at first base. However, the utility infielder was pressed into regular duty at first base because of Rafael Devers‘ balky hamstring, which has limited him to DH thus far. As well, the organization determined that young first baseman Bryce Eldridge, the Giants’ top prospect, needed further seasoning at Triple-A to start the year. If it’s any consolation to Chapman, Schmitt shouldn’t be at first base much longer.
All of this, of course, isn’t a big deal or even anything all that unusual. It just happened to be caught by the lens and lip readers, which is why we’re talking about it.

ESPN’s Liverpool correspondent Beth Lindop on the future for Hugo Ekitike.
In a season of few positives for Liverpool, Ekitike has been a rare shining light. The France international’s £69 million signing last summer was somewhat overshadowed by the subsequent £125 million arrival of Alexander Isak from Newcastle United.
However, with Isak having struggled for both form and fitness this term, Ekitike has become Liverpool’s main man and it’s little wonder he has admirers elsewhere. The lure of Real Madrid is always likely to be tempting for a striker who models himself on Madrid legend Karim Benezema but, with Ekitike under contract until June 2031, Liverpool hold all the cards and would surely resist any attempts to prise the 23-year-old away from Anfield.
As far as replacing Salah is concerned, it is an impossible task. As one of Europe’s most promising young wingers, it would be a surprise if Conceição was not on the club’s radar, though concrete interest in the Portugal international is yet to materialize.

An undersea magnitude -7.4 earthquake toppled buildings in parts of northern Indonesia, sent people fleeing from their homes, killed at least one person and generated a small tsunami Thursday.
Waves up to 30 inches above normal tides were recorded at several monitoring stations about a half-hour after the earthquake, which was centered in the Molucca Sea. Indonesia’s meteorological agency lifted its tsunami warning hours after the quake, and the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said there was no destructive threat to the country, which is north of the quake’s epicenter.
Strong shaking lasting 10 to 20 seconds was felt in Bitung in North Sulawesi province as well as in Ternate city in neighboring North Maluku province, according to Indonesia’s Disaster Management Agency.
Initial assessments showed light to severe damage in parts of Ternate, including a church and two houses. In Bitung, damage assessments were still underway, the agency said.
Indonesia’s Search and Rescue Agency reported a 70-year-old woman died in a building collapse in North Sulawesi’s Manado city and another resident was injured. At least three injured people were hospitalized in Ternate.
Videos released by the rescue agency showed damaged structures and flattened houses, while television stations broadcast scenes of people rushing outside and gathering in streets to avoid the risk of collapsing buildings.
Nearly 50 aftershocks were felt in nearby areas.
The U.S. Geological Survey says that a powerful magnitude 7.4 earthquake has struck in the Molucca Sea region northeast of Indonesia.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center in Honolulu said small waves were possible as well in Malaysia, the Philippines, Taiwan and Papua New Guinea, but there was no threat to Hawaii, Guam and other more distant islands.
The quake was strongly felt in Bitung, a coastal city in North Sulawesi province, where residents rushed out of their homes in fear.
“We had just woken up and suddenly the earthquake hit… we all ran out of the house,” resident Marten Mandagi said. “The shaking was very strong,”
Mandagi said he had not seen any damage in his area. “We’re still checking whether there is damage or not. But here we are safe, there are no casualties or destruction,” he said.
Indonesia, a vast archipelago of more than 280 million people, sits on major seismic faults and is frequently hit by earthquakes and volcanic eruptions because of its location on the “Ring of Fire,” an arc of volcanoes and fault lines in the Pacific Basin.
In 2022, a magnitude 5.6 earthquake killed at least 602 people in West Java’s Cianjur city, the deadliest one in Indonesia since a 2018 quake and tsunami in Sulawesi killed more than 4,300 people.
In 2004, an extremely powerful Indian Ocean quake set off a tsunami that killed more than 230,000 people in a dozen countries, most of them in Indonesia’s Aceh province.

Heyman’s attorney, Jason Bowles, said at the time, “Their careers have been ruined. Their lives have been ruined for two years, and their families have been affected. So, now, thank God they’re free, but now they have to rebuild it all back.”Last year, Heyman sued the city of Albuquerque and Fire Chief Emily Jaramillo, claiming defamation, wrongful termination, and violation of due process rights. That suit was dismissed by a district court judge just last month.Now, another suit has been filed, this time in federal court. It makes similar claims to the previous one, alleging Heyman’s termination from the department was wrongful since it happened before a trial or any admission of guilt. Chief Jaramillo is once again accused of defamation, claiming she branded Heyman as a criminal through public statements before the case went to trial. The suit is asking for back pay, damages for alleged civil rights violations, and even reinstatement at Albuquerque Fire Rescue.A spokesman for Albuquerque Fire Rescue said, “An internal investigation determined the employee violated AFR policies. The city will respond to his allegations in court.”Bowles declined to speak with KOAT about the lawsuit Wednesday.
