India’s Modi is making his second official visit to Israel to meet with Netanyahu

0

JERUSALEM — Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi was expected in Israel on Wednesday for a two-day visit focusing on strengthening security, economic and technological cooperation between the two countries.

Modi has said he would hold talks with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and President Isaac Herzog and would speak to Israeli parliament on Wednesday evening.

“Our nations share a robust and multifaceted Strategic Partnership,” Modi wrote on X. “Ties have significantly strengthened in the last few years.”

Netanyahu referred to himself and Modi as “personal friends” when he announced the visit earlier this week and the visit is likely to give Israel a boost of international support after seeing relations with many of its allies deteriorate since the war in Gaza began in October 2023.

In addition to being a powerful ally, India is also Israel’s No. 2 trading partner in Asia. Total trade between India and Israel was valued at $3.62 billion in the 2025 fiscal year, according to India’s Ministry of Commerce and Industry.

Modi became India’s first prime minister to travel to Israel in 2017, and Netanyahu reciprocated with a trip to India the following year.

Netanyahu told a Cabinet meeting Sunday that economic and security issues will be high on the leaders’ agenda, as will sharing technology, including artificial intelligence and quantum computing.

“We are partners in innovation, security, and a shared strategic vision,” Netanyahu said on the social platform X ahead of Modi’s arrival. “Together, we are building an axis of nations committed to stability and progress.”

Modi’s embrace of Israel has marked a shift in India’s foreign policy. India has historically supported the Palestinians, and did not establish full diplomatic ties with Israel until 1992.

A staunch Hindu nationalist, Modi was one of the first global leaders to swiftly express solidarity with Israel following the Oct. 7, 2023 attack by the Palestinian militant Hamas group.

India was also among more than 100 countries earlier this month to condemn Israel’s newly approved measures to deepen its control over the occupied West Bank and weaken the already limited powers of the Palestinian Authority.

Virginia Gov. Abigail Spanberger delivered the Democratic response to President Donald Trump’s State of the Union address Tuesday. We are gathered here in the chambers of the House of Burgesses. In 1705, the people of the Virginia colony gathered here to take on the extraordinary task of governing themselves. Before there was a Declaration of Independence, a Constitution, or a Bill of Rights — there were people in this very room. The people who served here ultimately dreamed of what a new nation — unlike anything the world had ever seen — could be.The United States was founded on the idea that ordinary people could reject the unacceptable excesses of poor leadership, band together to demand better of their government, and create a nation that would be an example for the world. And this year, as we celebrate 250 years since America declared our independence from tyranny, I can think of no better place to speak to you as we reflect on the current state of our union.Tonight, as we watched our nation’s lawmakers gather for a joint session of Congress, we did not hear the truth from our President. So, let’s speak plainly and honestly, and let me ask you three questions:Is the President working to make life more affordable for you and your family? Is the President working to keep Americans safe — both at home and abroad? Is the President working for YOU?As I campaigned for Governor last year, I traveled to every corner of Virginia, and I heard the same pressing concern everywhere: costs are too high. In housing, healthcare, energy, and childcare. And I know these same conversations are being had all across this country. Because since this President took office last year, his reckless trade policies have forced American families to pay more than $1,700 each in tariff costs. Small businesses have suffered. Farmers have suffered — some losing entire markets. Everyday Americans are paying the price. And even though the Supreme Court struck these tariffs down four days ago, the damage to us, the American people, has already been done. Meanwhile, the President is planning for new tariffs. Another massive tax hike on you and your family. Republicans in Congress? They remain unwilling to assert their constitutional authority to stop him. They’re making your life harder. They’re making your life more expensive. They’re even making it more difficult to see a doctor.Rural health clinics in Virginia are already closing their doors thanks to the so-called “One Big Beautiful Bill” championed by the President and Republicans in Congress. And tonight, the President celebrated this law — the one threatening rural hospitals, stripping healthcare from millions of Americans, and driving up costs in energy and housing. All while cutting food programs for hungry kids. But here in Virginia, I am working with our state legislature to lower costs and make the Commonwealth more affordable. And it’s not just me. Democrats across the country are laser-focused on affordability — in our nation’s capital and in state capitals and communities across America. In the most innovative and exceptional nation in the history of the world, Americans deserve to know that their leaders are focused on addressing the problems that keep them up at night. My mother was a nurse and my father was a career law enforcement officer. I began my career by following in my father’s footsteps as a federal agent working money laundering and narcotics cases. I worked side by side with local and state police to keep our communities safe and to uphold and enforce the law.Law enforcement officers across the country know that it’s a unique responsibility to do the serious work of investigating crimes, comforting victims, and making arrests. It’s about building trust, and that requires an abiding sense of duty and commitment to community. And yet, our President has sent poorly trained federal agents into our cities, where they have arrested and detained American citizens and people who aspire to be Americans — and they have done it without a warrant. They have ripped nursing mothers away from their babies, they have sent children — a little boy in a blue bunny hat — to far-off detention centers, and they have killed American citizens on our streets. But as the President spoke of his perceived successes tonight, he continues to cede economic power and technological strength to China, bow down to a Russian dictator, and make plans for war with Iran. In my case, I was the first Democrat elected in 50 years, swinging our district 17 points. ___

Good evening and welcome to historic Williamsburg.

We are gathered here in the chambers of the House of Burgesses. In 1705, the people of the Virginia colony gathered here to take on the extraordinary task of governing themselves.

Before there was a Declaration of Independence, a Constitution, or a Bill of Rights — there were people in this very room.

The people who served here ultimately dreamed of what a new nation — unlike anything the world had ever seen — could be.

The United States was founded on the idea that ordinary people could reject the unacceptable excesses of poor leadership, band together to demand better of their government, and create a nation that would be an example for the world.

And this year, as we celebrate 250 years since America declared our independence from tyranny, I can think of no better place to speak to you as we reflect on the current state of our union.

Tonight, as we watched our nation’s lawmakers gather for a joint session of Congress, we did not hear the truth from our President.

So, let’s speak plainly and honestly, and let me ask you three questions:

Is the President working to make life more affordable for you and your family?

Is the President working to keep Americans safe — both at home and abroad?

Is the President working for YOU?

As I campaigned for Governor last year, I traveled to every corner of Virginia, and I heard the same pressing concern everywhere: costs are too high.

They’re even making it more difficult to see a doctor.

Rural health clinics in Virginia are already closing their doors thanks to the so-called “One Big Beautiful Bill” championed by the President and Republicans in Congress.

Problems that dictate where you live, whether you can afford to start a business, or whether you have to skip a prescription in order to buy groceries.

So I’ll ask again: Is the President working to make life more affordable for you and your family?

We all know the answer is no.

I grew up in a house of service. My mother was a nurse and my father was a career law enforcement officer. I began my career by following in my father’s footsteps as a federal agent working money laundering and narcotics cases. I worked side by side with local and state police to keep our communities safe and to uphold and enforce the law.

Law enforcement officers across the country know that it’s a unique responsibility to do the serious work of investigating crimes, comforting victims, and making arrests.

And they have done it all with their faces masked from accountability.

Every minute spent sowing fear is a minute not spent investigating murders, crimes against children, or the criminals defrauding seniors of their life savings.

Our President told us tonight that we are safer because these agents arrest mothers and detain children. Think about that.

Our broken immigration system is something to be fixed — not an excuse for unaccountable agents to terrorize our communities.

After working in law enforcement, I continued my career of service as a CIA officer, working undercover to protect the United States and our allies from global threats: terrorism, nuclear weapons, and the aggression of adversarial nations around the globe.

But as the President spoke of his perceived successes tonight, he continues to cede economic power and technological strength to China, bow down to a Russian dictator, and make plans for war with Iran.

So, I’ll ask again: Is the President working to keep Americans safe — both at home and abroad?

We all know the answer is no.

In his speech tonight, the President did what he always does: he lied, he scapegoated, and he distracted. He also offered no real solutions to our nation’s pressing challenges — so many of which he is actively making worse.

He tries to enrage us, to divide us, to pit us against one another. Neighbor against neighbor. And sometimes, he succeeds.

And so you have to ask: Who benefits from his rhetoric, his policies, his actions, and the short list of laws he’s pushed through this Republican Congress?

Somebody must be benefitting.

He’s enriching himself, his family, his friends. The scale of the corruption is unprecedented.

There’s the cover-up of the Epstein files.

The crypto scams.

Cozying up to foreign princes for airplanes and billionaires for ballrooms.

Putting his name and face on buildings all over our nation’s capital.

This is not what our founders envisioned.

So, I’ll ask again: Is the President working for you?

We all know the answer is no.

But here is the special thing about America: on our 250th anniversary, we know better than any nation what is possible when ordinary citizens — like those who once dreamed right here in this room — reject the unacceptable and demand more of their government.

We see it in the determination of students organizing school walk outs all across the country, whose voices are becoming so powerful that the Governor of Texas seeks to silence them.

We see it in the bravery of Americans in Minnesota standing up for their communities — from peacefully protesting in subzero temperatures to carpooling children to school so that their immigrant parents are not ripped away from them in the parking lot.

As a mother of three school-aged daughters, I am inspired by their bravery, but I am sickened that it is necessary.

And Americans across the country are taking action. They are going to the ballot box to reject this chaos.

With their votes, they are writing a new story. A more hopeful story.

In November, I won my election by 15 points, and we won 13 new seats in our state legislature. Because voters decided they wanted something different.

Our campaign earned votes from Democrats, Republicans, Independents, and everyone in-between; because they knew as citizens, they could demand more.

That they could vote for what they believe matters, and they didn’t need to be constrained by a party or political affiliation

This is happening across the country. New Jersey elected Mikie Sherrill as Governor in a double-digit victory.

Democrats flipped state legislative seats in places like Georgia, Iowa, Mississippi, and Texas. The list goes on and on.

Ordinary Americans are stepping up to run — in the spirit of our forefathers — they are running to demand more and do more for their neighbors and communities.

I know this story well.

I first ran for office in 2018 alongside dozens of other Democrats who did the seemingly impossible, flipping 41 seats in Congress. In my case, I was the first Democrat elected in 50 years, swinging our district 17 points.

Because “We the people” have the power to make change, the power to stand up for what is right, and the power to demand more of our nation.

May God bless the Commonwealth of Virginia, and may God bless the United States of America.

‘The Madison’ Leans Into Tragedy + Healing in New Trailer [Watch]

0

Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan‘s upcoming new show, The Madison, has just dropped a full-length trailer, and the clip hints even more at tragedy underlying the new series.

What Happens in the Trailer for The Madison?

The new trailer centers mostly around Michelle Pfeiffer, who stars as Stacy Clyburn.

In the clip, she and her family are grieving a loss.

“Memories, it’s like a movie we can play over and over to revisit all those times we did have together — all the talks, all the laughs, all the hugs,” she says in the clip, which shows her leaving the city and moving to a remote spot in Montana, where her family attempts to put their loss behind them.

The clip does not explicitly state the nature of the family’s loss, but it appears likely that Clyburn has lost her husband, played by Kurt Russell, who does not appear to be with her in Montana.

It also shows the family trying to settle in and make sense of the tragedy that has befallen them.

See for yourself:

What Is The Madison?

The Madison follows the family as they travel from New York City to Montana after a tragedy.

How Trent Williams could turn NFL free agency upside down, possible landing spots if released

0

The week of the NFL combine is when news starts to pick up again. It proves the NFL has no real offseason, and the closest thing to it is the two weeks between the Super Bowl and combine week.

One of the biggest pieces of news was Tuesday’s report from ESPN’s Adam Schefter that Trent Williams and the 49ers are attempting to resolve their contract differences. Williams is set to count nearly $39 million against the cap in 2026, the 16th-highest figure in the NFL and the fourth-highest among non-quarterbacks, only behind Chiefs defensive lineman Chris Jones, 49ers defensive end Nick Bosa and Vikings wide receiver Justin Jefferson.

The 49ers want Williams to return, and the player’s representation and the team remain in contact. GM John Lynch said Tuesday, “I think we’re on the right track.” Still, it’s no guarantee.

Williams is 37 and entering the final year of a three-year, $82.6 million deal he renegotiated ahead of the 2024 season. He remains one of the NFL’s premier offensive linemen, making his 12th Pro Bowl and fifth All-Pro team last year. Pro Football Focus graded him as the No. 3 tackle in the NFL. He is integral to everything the 49ers do.

If he were to leave, he’d have ample suitors eagerly awaiting. Williams would have his pick, too. He’d be a free agent, and at this stage in his career, all that’s missing among his many accolades is a Super Bowl ring. With that in mind, here are five spots he could land if he does indeed leave San Francisco.

Green Bay Packers

The Packers are set to let starting left Rasheed Walker leave in free agency. A former seventh-round pick, Walker has risen to become a solid if unspectacular left tackle, and he has not missed a game the last three seasons. He’s in for a significant payday in a few weeks’ time.

Williams would represent a tremendous win-now upgrade for a win-now operation. The Packers have been among the league’s youngest teams for multiple years, and while that core has emerged to form a contender, it’s still missing a few true stars. Williams would be one. Last year, Walker was PFF’s No. 53 tackle, and he committed nine penalties; Williams, again, was the No. 3 tackle, and he committed just four penalties.

Chicago Bears

Going from one NFC North team to another, the Bears have already shown a willingness to take big swings on their offensive line. Last offseason — their first under Ben Johnson — Chicago traded for guards Joe Thuney and Jonah Jackson and signed center Drew Dalman. Right tackle Darnell Wright has continued to improve.

That leaves left tackle, where Braxton Jones entered the season as the starter but got hurt and was then benched and appeared in only six games. Ozzy Trapilo ruptured his patellar tendon in the playoffs and will likely miss most of the year. Johnson showed last year he isn’t afraid to make bold moves to upgrade Caleb Williams‘ surroundings.

Dallas Cowboys

Yes, the Cowboys being on this list is almost a given considering their propensity for being in the news, and, yes, they have massive financial hurdles to overcome. But with plenty of restructuring opportunities ahead — most notably Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb — they will work their way out of the financial hole they’re currently in.

Now for the fit. Left tackle Tyler Guyton, a 2024 first-round pick, struggled mightily in 2025 and has not inspired a ton of confidence through two seasons. Right tackle Terence Steele is a cut candidate. Add in that Williams is from Texas and, again, that the Cowboys are the Cowboys, and Dallas has to at least be on the radar, no matter how unlikely it may seem.

Pittsburgh Steelers

The Steelers show no signs of entering a rebuild, even though Mike Tomlin resigned this offseason and the team’s starting quarterback if the season started today would be Mason Rudolph or Will Howard. Should Aaron Rodgers return and reunite with Mike McCarthy, Pittsburgh would again look like a reasonably high-floor, low-ceiling outfit.

Williams could elevate that ceiling. He’s still a very good mover in space, something that would serve Pittsburgh well given Rodgers’ propensity to get the ball out quickly to running backs and tight ends. Pittsburgh’s current left tackle, 2023 first-round pick Broderick Jones, missed six games last year and has been inconsistent when on the field.

Wild card: New England Patriots

“He’s 22 years old. He’s our left tackle,” Mike Vrabel said of Will Campbell in the aftermath of the rookie’s difficult postseason. “He’ll get better and get stronger. Moments where he played well … there’s plays he’d like to have back, but we’re not moving Will to center or guard or tight end or anywhere else.”

Indeed, Campbell’s struggles were on full display, especially in the Super Bowl. But he was also playing at less than 100% after midseason knee surgery. The No. 4 overall pick less than a year ago, Campbell played at a very solid level prior to the injury. One bad postseason — as a rookie coming off an injury, no less — doesn’t mean he’s doomed.

On the other hand, Vrabel’s comments came before a player like Williams was potentially available. New England has plenty to do to ensure it’s not a one-and-done Super Bowl contender, and upgrading other parts of the offense is high up on that list. But New England has the budget to go big-game hunting, and Williams is a massive talent at a crucial position.

L.A. man who gave alcohol to hawk is sentenced for animal cruelty

0

A Los Angeles man was sentenced to 45 days in jail and a year of probation after video showed him giving a protected juvenile hawk a sip of alcohol at a park.

Cesar Gustavo Diaz, 25, was sentenced by a judge Thursday after he pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor charge of animal cruelty, court records show. A second misdemeanor charge, capturing or possessing a bird or mammal, was dismissed.

The California Department of Fish and Wildlife announced last week’s sentencing on Tuesday, saying its Special Operations Unit investigated Diaz after concerned members of the public pointed out the video.

The video involved a juvenile Cooper’s hawk — protected under federal and California law — that was being given a taste of alcohol at Amelia Mayberry Park in South Whittier, a community about 16 miles southeast of downtown Los Angeles, on June 15, according to the department and court records.

Images provided by the Department of Fish and Wildlife show the raptor sipping from what appears to be a BuzzBallz ready-to-drink cocktail in its green, spherical container.

Investigators conducted five judge-approved searches and focused on Diaz with the help of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department and its Operation Safe Streets unit, the Department of Fish and Wildlife said.

When investigators were ready to arrest Diaz, he was found in custody on unrelated charges, the department said, and told investigators he had released the hawk.

According to court records, Diaz served 44 of his 45 days ahead of sentencing, partly with the help of credit for good behavior.

Two public defenders were assigned to Diaz’s case. Their office did not immediately respond to a request for comment late Tuesday.

His sentence also includes a 24-session animal cruelty counseling program, a five-year ban on having animals under his care, a 10-year ban on possessing firearms and $220 in fines and fees, the department said.

Cooper’s hawks are protected under federal law enacted in 1918 and updated in 1998. It prohibits their capture, possession or sale. State law also prohibits harming or harassing such wildlife, according to the Department of Fish and Wildlife.

The birds prey on chipmunks, squirrels and sometimes fish, and they can grow to 15 inches in length, according to the Hawk Ridge Bird Observatory in Duluth, Minnesota.

TRENDING RUMORS

Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson is on the radar of Juventus, according to Gazzetta dello Sport. The Bianconeri have reportedly added the 33-year-old Brazil international to their shortlist as they search for a solution at No. 1 amid issues with Michele Di Gregorio and Mattia Perin, with belief that an opportunity to sign him could emerge when he enters the final year of his contract at Anfield in the summer. Alisson, who was signed from AS Roma in 2018, has remained the starter for the Reds this season despite their acquisition of substitute goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili, and he is the latest player to be linked with a switch to the Serie A side, who are also looking at Tottenham Hotspur‘s Guglielmo Vicario.

Barcelona are interested in signing Manchester City forward Omar Marmoush, according to Sport. Marmoush, 27, has reportedly been identified as a potential alternative to Atlético Madrid‘s Julián Álvarez, and they see him as a strong fit for manager Hansi Flick’s system, while there is optimism that he could be signed for less than €75 million in the summer. Sport also reports that the Blaugrana have informed the representatives of 31-year-old wing back João Cancelo of their desire to sign him on a permanent deal next season. The Portugal international is currently on loan from Al Hilal, but while there is no option clause included in the deal, talks are expected to take place over a fee, with the LaLiga club impressed with his performances since he joined in January.

Manchester United and Manchester City are both keen on Nottingham Forest midfielders Morgan Gibbs-White and Elliot Anderson, per The Daily Mail. It is reported that the Manchester duo are monitoring the pair’s situation ahead of potential moves in the summer, but more teams could join the race if Forest suffer relegation from the Premier League this season. Gibbs-White, 27, is one of the latest names to be linked with a switch to Old Trafford, while a move for 23-year-old Anderson, who has also been linked to the Etihad Stadium as a potential successor to Rodri, is expected to require an offer worth at least £100million.

Borussia Dortmund are set to demand a fee of around €70 million from clubs wanting to sign midfielder Felix Nmecha, amid interest from Chelsea and Manchester United, according to Bild. The 25-year-old’s situation at Signal Iduna Park is reported to be “sensitive” after he joined an agency based in England, and it looks as though BVB would be willing to part ways with him if their transfer valuation is met. The Bundesliga club are also expecting interest to emerge in winger Karim Adeyemi, 24, and striker Serhou Guirassy, 29, with the hope of raising significant funds from these three deals to rebuild their squad.

Everton are considering an approach for Manchester City defender John Stones. Football Insider reports that the Toffees are open to signing the 31-year-old on a free transfer when his contract expires in the summer, but there are concerns that a deal could be complex due to the likelihood of him demanding a notable signing-on fee and the fact he has struggled with injury recently. The report adds that it looks increasingly likely that Stones will leave the Etihad Stadium, which would end a spell marginally shy of 10 years after he arrived there from Goodison Park in August 2016.
