WWE Elimination Chamber 2026 predictions, expert picks for Saturday’s action

0

With the Royal Rumble in the rear-view mirror, there’s only one path to a world championship match at WrestleMania, and that path is winning the Elimination Chamber. The event takes place on Saturday at United Center in Chicago.

Six men and six women will enter the Elimination Chamber, with the winners of the men’s and women’s matches earning their shot at a world title. With men’s Royal Rumble winner Roman Reigns already choosing world heavyweight champion CM Punk and women’s winner Liv Morgan selecting women’s world champion Stephanie Vaquer, that leaves WWE champion Drew McIntyre and WWE women’s champion Jade Cargill for the Elimination Chamber winners.

The men’s match got a late swerve on the final SmackDown before the event. Jey Uso, who earned a spot in the match with a win on Monday over Bronson Reed and El Grande Americano, was taken out backstage by an unknown assailant. That led SmackDown general manager Nick Aldis to book an impromptu match between Jacob Fatu and Logan Paul for the final spot in the Chamber, which Paul won with some outside assistance.

Also on Saturday, CM Punk will put his world heavyweight championship on the line against Finn Balor. The pair put on an epic match in Balor’s home country of Ireland earlier this month. Balor has demanded a rematch after coming up short and if successful, he would take Punk’s main event spot at WrestleMania 42 against Roman Reigns.

Plus, Punk’s wife, AJ Lee will wrestle her first singles match in over a decade when she takes on Becky Lynch for the women’s intercontinental championship. Lee teamed with Punk against Rollins and Lynch last year in Lee’s first match back with the company. Now, she looks for her first singles win since 2015.

Drew McIntyre reacts to WWE scrapping John Cena match at Crown Jewel: 'I can't change the creative direction'

Let’s take a look at who the CBS Sports experts believe will emerge victorious on Saturday in Chicago.

2026 WWE Elimination Chamber predictions

Men’s Elimination Chamber Match — Randy Orton vs. LA Knight vs. Cody Rhodes vs. Je’Von Evans vs. Trick Williams vs. Logan Paul: Many times, picking a winner in a match like this comes down to eliminating who wouldn’t be a winner. Evans and Williams aren’t currently at the level where they’ll be going one-on-one for a world championship at WrestleMania. Orton is a legend, but not one who is in a place where he makes sense as a WrestleMania headliner in 2026. That leaves Knight and Rhodes, only one of whom has an ongoing issue — which some may say has been ongoing for far too long — with McIntyre. That makes the outcome seem fairly obvious. Pick: Cody Rhodes wins — Brent Brookhouse (also Shakiel Mahjouri)

Women’s Elimination Chamber Match — Tiffany Stratton vs. Rhea Ripley vs. Alexa Bliss vs. Asuka vs. Kiana James vs. Raquel Rodriguez: The winner of this match will challenge WWE women’s champion Jade Cargill at WrestleMania. Those stakes help narrow the field. The champ looks like a box office star, so WWE should pick a challenger with star power and experience. Asuka and Cargill are both heels, and while that sometimes works, it doesn’t gel well here. Bliss fits the bill, but she’s more interesting teaming with Charlotte Flair. Ripley vs. Cargill screams WrestleMania, a collision between two of WWE’s most powerful women. Ripley’s status as women’s tag team champion complicates things, but there’s more upside here than retreading Cargill vs. Stratton. Pick: Ripley wins — Mahjouri (also Brookhouse)

World Heavyweight Championship — CM Punk (c) vs. Finn Balor: It’s nice to see Balor positioned like a major player once again, and equally nice that it is signaling the end of his time in Judgment Day, but there’s just no way WWE pivots from Punk vs. Reigns at WrestleMania to Balor vs. Reigns. It was nice to see WWE finally bring up the bizarre ending to Balor vs. Reigns at Extreme Rules 2021, but that’s not enough foundation for a WrestleMania main event. Pick: CM Punk retains the title — Brookhouse (also Mahjouri)

Women’s Intercontinental Championship — Becky Lynch (c) vs. AJ Lee: Punk will smooth things over for Chicago after a rough start for their adopted hero Lee. The women’s intercontinental champion needs a successful title defense, especially with the potential for another showdown at WrestleMania. Lee has wrestled twice in 10 years, beating Lynch in WarGames and a mixed tag team match with their husbands. Expect Lynch to steal a victory through nefarious means ahead of a one-on-one rematch in Las Vegas. Pick: Lynch retains the title — Mahjouri (also Brookhouse)

Attack on Iran disrupts flights across the Middle East and beyond

0

LONDON — The U.S. and Israel’s attack on Iran is disrupting flights across the Middle East and beyond, as regional airspaces began closing and thousands of travelers across the globe were stranded.

Israel, the United Arab Emirates and Qatar closed their airspace on Saturday. Airspace in southern Syria was also closed.

Planes that were en route to cities like Tel Aviv and Dubai early Saturday were diverted or returned to where they took off from.

Dubai International Airport alone — the world’s busiest airport for international flights — reported more than 700 inbound and outbound flights canceled. The airport’s operator said flights were halted indefinitely at Dubai International and Dubai World Central—Al Maktoum International Airport on the Gulf city’s outskirts.

The situation is changing quickly and airlines urged passengers to check their flight status online before heading to the airport.

Jonathan Escott and his fiance had arrived at the airport in Newcastle, England, only to find out that his direct flight to Dubai on Emirates airline was canceled, leaving everyone on the flight stuck there.

Escott left to go back to where he was staying with family, about an hour from the airport, but has no idea when he may be able to travel.

“No one knows,” Escott said. “No one really knows what’s going on with the conflict, really. Not Emirates, Emirates don’t have a clue. No one has a clue.”

The closure is likely to have significant ripple effects not only for Dubai-based Emirates, but for many other airlines that fly in and out of the city.

Emirates said separately that it was temporarily suspending operations to and from Dubai International Airport, and Air Canada canceled the day’s flights to and from Dubai.

Qatar Airways Group has temporarily canceled flights to and from Doha because of the airspace closures.

Dutch airline KLM had already announced earlier in the week that it was suspending flights to and from Tel Aviv starting Sunday.

Airlines including Lufthansa, Air France, Transavia, Qatar Airways, and Pegasus have canceled all flights to Lebanon.

Virgin Atlantic canceled its flight from Heathrow Airport in London to Dubai and said it would avoid flying over Iraq, meaning flights to and from India, the Maldives and Riyadh could take slightly longer. The airline already was not flying over Iran. Virgin Atlantic said all flights would carry appropriate fuel in case they need to reroute on short notice.

British Airways said flights to Tel Aviv and Bahrain will be suspended until next week, and flights to Amman, Jordan, will be canceled Saturday.

United Airlines said flights en route to Tel Aviv and Dubai on Saturday morning were either diverted or returned to the U.S. The airline canceled flights between the U.S. and Tel Aviv through Monday and flights between the U.S. and Dubai through Sunday. It issued a travel waiver so passengers can change their flights at no cost.

Turkish Airlines said on X that flights to Lebanon, Syria, Iraq, Iran and Jordan will be suspended until Monday and flights to Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates and Oman would be suspended on Saturday. The airline said additional cancellations may be announced.

SABATON Ran A Study On The UK’s Most Popular Genres – Both Rock & Metal Make The Top 5

0

It ain’t often that a metal band decides to take a break from their creative, and in this case – historical – lives to engage with a scientific study of the masses, but Sabaton ran a study this past month that looked at the most searched for music genres online. And guess what? Rock is ranked at #1.

The specific research method Sabaton used was through Google’s ‘Keyword Planner,’ which allowed them to track and analyse the search volume data in the UK for multiple genres of music across an entire calendar year, and their findings showed that both rock and metal make the top 5 most searched.

The UK’s top ten favourite music genres range, but there’s nearly 20,000 more searches per month for the first most popular genre and the fourth. You can find the full list below.

Total Monthly Searches

  1. Rock – 44,986
  2. Electronic/Dance – 38,037
  3. Pop – 27,670
  4. R&B/Soul – 25,790
  5. Metal – 24,484
  6. Classical – 23,468
  7. Country – 18,403
  8. Reggae/Ska –13,008
  9. Indie/Alternative – 11,790
  10. Hip Hop/Rap – 5,701

The research led to some pretty eye-opening statistics – it feels like the metal and rock scene has grown exponentially in the last few years, and with a full year of search tracking showing that rock and metal are in the top five most popular genres at the moment, the feeling of a rock renaissance is imminent.

Pär Sundström, the bassist, co-founder, and manager of Sabaton, agrees with the findings, saying: “It’s fantastic to see both rock and metal ranking so highly in these search results. The UK has always been a stronghold for rock music, with its rich history of producing legendary bands that shaped the sound of modern music.

“The fact that metal ranks in the top five is particularly meaningful. Metal has always had this remarkable ability to build passionate communities around it, even without the same level of mainstream exposure that other genres receive.

“Rock music’s enduring popularity in the UK isn’t surprising when you consider its deep roots in British culture, from the British Invasion of the 1960s to the New Wave of British Heavy Metal in the late 1970s and early 1980s. These movements influenced UK music and transformed global music culture.”

The research also showed that there were quite a few very undersearched genres, with rock searched 43,000 more times a month than instrumentals. You can check out the five least searched for genres below, all research credited to Sabaton.

The UK’s least searched for music genres

  1. Instrumental – 1,760
  2. Opera – 2,302
  3. Gospel/Christian – 2,454
  4. World Music – 2,767
  5. Soundtracks – 4,205

Did Sydney Sweeney hit Bruno Fernandes’ goal celebration?

0

Hollywood star Sydney Sweeney paid a visit to Portuguese club Sporting CP, and appeared to imitate the trademark celebration of one of the club’s former players, Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes.

Sweeney was in the capital city of Lisbon on Friday to see hosts Sporting beat Estoril 3-0, a win that keeps them in touch with Portuguese Primeira Liga leaders FC Porto.

The star of “The White Lotus” and “Euphoria” got a memento from her visit to the Estadio José Alvalade in the form of a jersey with “Sydney” on the back, and on the pitch after the match she also got to meet Jubas, the club’s giant lion mascot.

Sweeney tried her luck with a shot at goal. Judging by her reaction, she wasn’t able to beat the goalkeeper, but that didn’t stop her appearing to celebrate in familiar fashion by putting her hands up to cover her ears.

Fernandes, who spent three seasons at Sporting before joining Manchester United in January 2020, is known to mark scoring a goal by elaborately making that same gesture in an apparent signal to show how he shuts out the external noise that surrounds him.

As one of biggest stars of film and TV today, that’s no doubt a sentiment that Sweeney can relate to.

Sporting’s win puts them four points behind Porto, and they will host the league leaders on Tuesday in a huge top-of-the-table clash, before meeting Bodo/Glimt the following week in the round-of-16 of the Champions League.

Former MLB pitcher Dan Serafini sentenced to life in prison for shooting in-laws

0

Ex-MLB pitcher Dan Serafini was sentenced Friday to life in prison without the possibility of parole for the 2021 murder of his father-in-law and attempted murder of his mother-in-law.

In a Placer County, California courtroom, the jury concluded that Serafini’s actions “were deliberate and premeditated” when he shot his in-laws Robert Gary Spohr and Wendy Wood at their home in Lake Tahoe following serious financial disputes. Wood survived her injuries but died by suicide a year later.

“He is a monster that knows no moral boundaries and has zero reservations about taking lives to benefit himself,” Adrienne Spohr, Serafini’s sister-in-law, said during his sentencing Friday.

Over the course of the six-week trial, jurors heard “about heated disputes over financial obligations” and communications leading up to the murder, the Placer County District Attorney’s Office posted on Facebook.

The former MLB first-round draft pick was found guilty in July of waiting inside his in-laws’ home with a gun before fatally shooting his father-in-law and gravely injuring his mother-in-law.

Serafini and his lover, Samantha Scott, were arrested two years after the incident. Scott later testified that she gave Serafini a ride the day of the shooting, believing it was a drug deal before Serafini later admitted that he had shot his in-laws.

Prosecutors accused Serafini of targeting his in-laws to access a multimillion-dollar inheritance.

According to Adrienne Spohr, Serafini and her sister Erin had taken millions of dollars from her parents over the years, including over a million dollars for a horse estate, and smaller installments for nanny services and to pay off credit cards. Spohr said that Serafini and her sister continued to ask her mother for money after the attempted murder.

“Dan showed no remorse,” she said. “He cashed in a $200,000 check made to him from his victim’s account just weeks after holding a gun to her head and pulling the trigger.”

Spohr said her sister and Serafini fought her efforts to post a reward announcement for her father’s murderer. “And now we know why,” she said during sentencing.

At sentencing, Spohr asked for her brother-in-law to be given the maximum sentence, including a period of solitary confinement, as Spohr feared Serafini might conspire with other prisoners to murder her. “Dan Serafini should never see the outside of a prison again,” Spohr said.

Serafini continued to claim innocence during sentencing, calling the trial a “popularity contest” and giving his condolences to the “victims of this heinous crime.”

Serafini spent seven years in the big leagues, logging time with the Minnesota Twins, Chicago Cubs, Pittsburgh Pirates, Cincinnati Reds, San Diego Padres and Colorado Rockies. His busiest season was in 1998, going 7-4 with a 6.48 ERA for the Twins.

He also pitched professionally in Japan, Taiwan and Mexico.

The 50 Best Jason Aldean Songs, Ranked in Order

0

Jason Aldean‘s most memorable songs are high octane rockers built to fuel one of the best live shows in country music. A close look at his Top 50 songs reveals a man capable of so much more.

There are flashes of who the “She’s Country” hitmaker would eventually become on his self-titled debut album, but on Jason Aldean (2005), you’ll also find a lot of experimentation.

Pure country weepers that recall Tracy Lawrence are stacked alongside snarling heaters like “Hicktown,” his debut single (No. 22 on this list). Not everything worked, but you have to respect the work put in to fine-tune on the fly.

What Are Jason Aldean’s Top Songs?

This list of Aldean’s best songs — ranked — recognizes that that effort often came between the hit radio singles.

READ MORE: See Jason Aldean ‘s 2026 Tour Dates

Fourteen of the 50 songs below are deep cuts, suggested by fans and vetted by Taste of Country staff. “Asphalt Cowboy” (No. 15) and “Texas Was You” (No. 26) are two essential songs that radio DJs never spun, but without them, you can’t fully understand why his audience is so passionate.

A case could be made that Aldean’s first duet with Miranda Lambert is better than his second, a No. 1 hit from 2018. We didn’t go that far, but we’ll listen to the argument.

What made it possible for Aldean to build a catalog worthy of a Top 50 songs list is his commitment to evolving as an artist. Like breadcrumbs, he leaves blue collar, rural anthems on every album so his most enduring fans always have something new to identify with.

Those balance his wild home run swings, most of which have led to career-changing hits. “Dirt Road Anthem” (No. 3) and “Burnin’ It Down” (No. 25) are two examples.

This journey shows the evolution of one of the 21st century’s most successful country singers and finishes with at least two unexpected songs inside his Top 5. Scroll down to find your favorite song. We look forward to continuing the conversation for years to come.

Top 50 Jason Aldean Songs: His Greatest Hits + Best Deep Cuts

The best Jason Aldean songs are spread out among his 11 studio albums. Find singles and deep cuts from his self-titled debut album high on this list, right alongside more recent hits and duets from Macon and Georgia.

Taste of Country asked readers for input and did a deep dive into Aldeans’ full catalog of songs to identify those worthy of this top songs list, and those that simply aren’t. Spoiler alert: A few radio singles are missing, and several album tracks rank inside the Top 20. Sales and chart success helped us round out the Top 50. Do you agree with No. 1?
