All the Country Star Cameos

0

Ella Langley’s new music video for “Choosin’ Texas” is a mini-movie set in the Stagecoach Ballroom of Fort Worth, Texas, where Langley’s lyrics to her massive crossover hit all come to life. There’s the cowboy with a wandering eye, the Lone Star State vixen out to woo him, and Langley’s soon-to-be-drinking-alone narrator. But it’s the names that Langley cast to play those roles that help make the video so charming.

Here are all the cameos you may have missed.

Luke Grimes

The Yellowstone and Marshalls star is about to roll out his brand new country album, Red Bird. For “Choosin’ Texas,” however, he emphasizes his acting, playing the cowboy who just can’t quit the pull of Texas and all that comes along with it.

Miranda Lambert

The native Texan co-wrote “Choosin’ Texas” with Langley (she co-produced Langley’s upcoming album Dandelion, too) and appears in the video as the sage country singer who’s already seen it all. She knows who and what Grimes’ cowboy is going to choose.

Kaitlin Butts

Former theater kid Butts — notably not a Texan, but from Oklahoma — gives Langley’s character a little lip in the women’s room, warning her that Grimes sure isn’t going to choose her. “Sorry for being so mean to you!” Butts posted to Langley online after the video’s premiere.

Ava Phillippe

The daughter of actors Ryan Phillippe and Reese Witherspoon is the spitting image of her mother, a Nashville resident. Phillippe plays the woman who makes a play for Grimes.

Wade Bowen, Mike Ryan, Casey Donahew, Tanner Usrey

A quartet of Texas country music singers is all spotted inside the Stagecoach Ballroom, including lifers like Bowen and the upstart Usrey.

Trending Stories

Dale Brisby, JB Mauney, Shad Mayfield, Tyson Durfey, Leighton Berry

What’s a music video set in Texas without a bunch of cowboys? Champs at that: Mayfield and Durfy are world champ calf ropers, while Mauney is a PBR world champion and NFR bullrider.  And Brisby, the long-haired guy at the table, earned a reputation for being a bull-riding comedian. Think Jackass at the rodeo.

Shea Fisher Durfey

The wife of Tyson Durfy, Shea, is an Australian native who moved to Texas to pursue a country music career.

2026 NFL Draft superlatives: Best prospects, safest picks, biggest steals

0

With three weeks until the draft, NFL teams are finishing up top-30 visits and starting to zero in on players who fit their schemes and cultures. Here are some close-to-final thoughts on a series of topics I was asked about some of the top prospects in this class.

All rankings via CBS Sports prospect rankings.

Best player

Running back value is generally undervalued, but Bijan Robinson and Jahmyr Gibbs’ immediate success has proven a franchise back is worth its weight in gold — and Jeremiyah Love is that guy.

He has exceptional vision and patience, is a weapon as a receiver and has home-run ability every time he touches the ball. Love also has good ball security (one fumble in 2025), along with excellent durability and low tread on the tires. His lateral quickness and explosiveness stand out, and he possesses multiple elite traits that should translate.

He gives you an instant-impact player who can be a difference-maker and has the traits to be an elite running back for a long time.

Safest pick

Caleb Downs has been exceptional as a three-year starter at both Alabama and Ohio State and gets rave reviews from every coaching staff and teammate for his professionalism and attention to detail. Safety isn’t usually a premium position, but Downs will step in on Day 1 as an impact player and upgrade for almost any franchise.

He’s a high-IQ leader who excels in both phases. He can erase tight ends, play in the box as a run defender and is an excellent tackler in space. Downs isn’t limited athletically, has shined on the biggest stages and has a very low probability of not at least having a solid career as a starting safety.

Highest ceiling

Arvell Reese is a unicorn as a box linebacker and has the ability to excel there, but also shows flashes as an edge defender with limited yet effective pass-rush ability. He brings elite twitch and instincts, along with the size and length to hold up in multiple spots.

Reese has some strong reps off the edge and is extremely dynamic as a part-time rusher, showing speed-to-power and a quality long-arm move. His pass-rush ceiling is high with detailed coaching, repetition and time on task, and you have to think his long-term projection is on the edge if he goes in the top 10. He’s nowhere near a finished product as a pass rusher, but if his development continues trending upward, watch out.

Biggest risk/reward

Jermod McCoy was a talented prospect and one of the better corners in the country in 2024 but missed the entire 2025 season rehabbing a torn ACL. He had a really impressive workout for scouts this week. McCoy has the ability to be one of the top corners and an impact player with his ball-hawking skills and press coverage ability.

Taking any player in the first round after missing a full season carries risk, but if his medicals check out — and it appears they did — and his change-of-direction ability holds, he could be a steal. It’s possible he needs time to adjust to NFL speed, but it’s also possible he’s fully healthy and ready to go on Day 1.

Who I’m buying low

Peter Woods was one of the most disappointing prospects in the country in 2025, and the only explanation may be some sort of injury. He’s a mega-talented player who was steady and impactful in his first two seasons at Clemson, despite playing out of position at times in 2023. There are still impressive reps on film, but taking him high in the first round is a gamble.

Woods needs to ramp up his effort and elevate his play if he’s going to be the impact player he’s shown flashes of as a rookie. He has good power and leverage against double teams and flashes lateral quickness on stunts to get home. Teams want consistency, and his uneven 2025 tape raises red flags.

I don’t buy the hype

Blake Miller is an ironman and model of consistency, starting 54 games in four seasons at Clemson. He’s a solid player who has improved each year and brings a professional approach to development. I don’t see the athleticism or awareness for him to be an instant NFL starter at tackle.

He struggles with hand timing in pass protection, which can get him in trouble against athletic edge defenders. He also gets beat on the edge when he plays like a catcher instead of a striker. At times, he struggles to anchor as a mostly vertical setter and doesn’t always have his feet rooted when absorbing contact. He ends up on the ground too often in the run game and struggles to sync his hands and hips for maximum power. His inability to correct some of these issues, despite extensive experience, is concerning.

Best player who won’t go in Round 1

Caleb Banks is, in my opinion, the most talented defensive tackle in the draft, but his foot surgeries are a major concern and likely push him out of the top 32 picks. Teams are hesitant to guarantee money to a player with that medical history, especially after he played just 96 snaps last season. He had surgery early in the year after the LSU game, returned for the final two games and had a strong week in Mobile. He was injured again at the combine but should be ready for training camp.

Banks is a rare athlete for his size with fluid movement skills, but multiple foot injuries for a big-bodied player are a concern. If he stays healthy, he has All-Pro upside.

Current darling I could see falling

I’m a big fan of Akheem Mesidor and think he’s the most NFL-ready pass rusher in the class and could be an impact rookie. Still, I could see him slipping for several reasons.

He’ll be 25 as a rookie and had a foot injury in 2023 that cost him time. He doesn’t have the ideal frame or length teams covet on the edge, and he lacks consistent speed-to-power conversion, which is critical at the next level.

Mesidor was a great player and teammate at Miami, but it wouldn’t surprise me if a team overthinks the measurables.

Day 2 steal

Chris Bell is one of the best receiving prospects in the draft but suffered an ACL injury in November that will impact his stock. There may be some patience required early in his rookie year, but the payoff could be significant.

Bell has great size and is a highly skilled, explosive receiver with No. 1 potential. He creates space with his route stems and makes ridiculous catches look routine. He also shows the ability to separate, and his game speed stands out.

Player I’d pound the table for

Brent Key has built Georgia Tech’s identity around toughness and physicality, and Keylan Rutledge embodies that. He’s the kind of player who can have a long career as an NFL starter.

He’s physical, moves well and plays through the whistle. Rutledge is an excellent puller, thrives in space and can wipe out defenders with ease. He’s also strong in pass protection, showing patience, technique and a sturdy anchor. He’s consistent, fundamentally sound in both phases and exactly the type of player you want in your foxhole.

FBI team arrives in Cuba to investigate fatal shooting of US-flagged speedboat

0

HAVANA — FBI agents have arrived in Cuba to investigate the fatal shooting of five men aboard a U.S.-flagged speedboat in February that the Cuban government said was carrying suspects who were trying to infiltrate the island.

Five other men on the boat were wounded in an exchange of fire with the Cuban Border Patrol on Feb. 25 in what the Cuban government has called a terrorist attack by Cuban expatriates who had been living in the United States. The U.S. government has disavowed any connection to the group, and said it wants to fully investigate Cuba’s claims.

The FBI technical team arrived Tuesday to conduct a thorough and independent investigation, a U.S. diplomatic official who is close to the matter told The Associated Press on Thursday. The official, who spoke on condition they not be named because they were not authorized to speak publicly about the matter, did not provide details on how many FBI agents arrived or how long they would remain on the island.

Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel had said in March that he expected FBI agents to visit the island to help with the investigation.

Cuban officials have said the speedboat was detected with 10 men and military equipment aboard in waters north of the island. They said the men in the boat fired first and that soldiers returned fire, killing four suspects. A fifth later died from his injuries. Six other men were wounded, including a crew member in the Cuban military vessel.

The survivors face criminal terrorism charges that could carry a life sentence.

The clash occurred amid heightened tensions between Cuba and the United States.

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said at the time that the group was not a U.S. government operation, and said U.S. officials would seek to verify the information provided by Cuban authorities.

Days after the shooting, high-ranking officials from Cuba’s Interior Ministry and the Revolutionary Armed Forces displayed military equipment seized from the speedboat and confirmed they had been in contact with the U.S. Coast Guard.

The equipment included high-caliber rifles, pistols, uniforms, boots, helmets, special rations, an electric generator, a satellite communications unit and at least 12,000 rounds of ammunition.

Josh Allen, Hailee Steinfeld announce birth of first child

0

BUFFALO, N.Y. — The newest member of the Buffalo Bills‘ extended family has officially arrived, as quarterback Josh Allen and his wife, actress-singer Hailee Steinfeld, announced the birth of their daughter.

The announcement came via Steinfeld’s newsletter, Beau Society, on Thursday morning. The subject of the newsletter is “Special delivery …,” and it includes an image of a stork holding a baby in a cloth with a pink heart on it.

“Our baby girl has arrived!! We’re feeling incredibly grateful and blessed and savouring these early moments,” Steinfeld wrote in the newsletter. “Thank you so much for the love and well wishes. Love, Hailee and Josh.”

The couple did not share the date of birth or the name of their first child. They announced Dec. 12, 2025, that they were expecting a child after getting married on May 31. Steinfeld, 29, and Allen went public with their relationship in spring 2023. He proposed in November 2024 during the Bills’ bye week.

Allen, also 29, shared his excitement over becoming a father in late January following Bills coach Joe Brady’s introductory news conference.

“I’m very much looking forward to that with my wife, becoming a dad,” Allen said. “It’s something that I will take with great pride, and we’re going to have to figure things out on the go, just like anything else. But this is the most important thing I’ll ever be in my life, is being a dad. And I know, I love being a football player and I love being a quarterback for the Buffalo Bills, but I’m looking forward to this one.”

The Bills are set to begin the team’s offseason program next week under Brady. Allen, going into his ninth NFL season in Buffalo, had offseason surgery on a broken bone in his right foot but is looking to participate.

Attorney General Pam Bondi has been fired, according to reports

There were several explosive moments in this hearing, and at times Attorney General Pam Bondi traded insults with lawmakers over her handling of immigration and crime and the release of the Epstein files. How many have you excuse me, I’m going to answer the question. Answer my question. No, I’m going to answer the question the way I want to answer the question. Chairman Jordan. I’m not going to get in the gutter with these people. Tensions boiling as lawmakers grilled Attorney General Pam. Bondi over the release of the Epstein files, you taking responsibility for your Department of Justice and the harm that it has done to the survivors, I’m not going to get in the gutter for her theatrics. Democrats accusing Bondi of covering up for the powerful while exposing sensitive and private victim information. Bondi blaming her predecessor and praising the current administration. He is the most transparent president in the nation’s history. And none of them, none of them ask Merrick Garland over the last 4 years one word about Jeffrey Epstein. This cover up spans decades, and you are responsible for this portion of it. Meanwhile, most Republicans pivoting focus, praising the DOJ’s crackdown on immigration and crime under Attorney General. Bondi, the DOJ has returned to its core missions upholding the rule of law, going after the bad guys, and keeping Americans safe. In this hearing, one lawmaker asked Epstein victims who were in the audience today whether they felt supported by the Justice Department, and not *** single hand went up in that moment. But Attorney General Bondi pledged to work with victims and bring justice. Reporting on Capitol Hill, I’m Amy Liu.

Kenny Rogers Turned His Career Around With One Classic Hit

0

Kenny Rogers became one of the most enduring superstars in country music history, but he was a middle-aged man looking for an unlikely comeback when he scored his first No. 1 country hit in 1977.

What Were Kenny Rogers’ Early Days in Music Like?

Rogers was born in 1938, and he launched his career in 1958 with a minor single called “That Crazy Feeling.”

He went on to stints in a jazz band called the Bobby Doyle Three and a folk group called the New Christy Minstrels before splitting off to form the First Edition.

That group gave Rogers his first taste of mainstream success, scoring hits on both the rock and country charts with songs including “Just Dropped In (To See What Condition My Condition Was In),” “Ruby, Don’t Take Your Love to Town,” “Reuben James” and “Something’s Burning.”

READ MORE: PICS: Kenny Rogers’ Twins Boys Just Turned 21!

But by the time the group disbanded in 1976, Rogers was just a few years shy of 40 and left to start all over again as a solo artist.

How Did Kenny Rogers Launch His Solo Career?

He scored some smaller successes at country radio with his first solo album, Love Lifted Me, but it wasn’t until Rogers released his self-titled second album in 1977 that he established himself as a solo country star.

Rogers hit No. 1 on Billboard‘s Hot Country Songs chart on April 2, 1977, with “Lucille,” a plaintive barroom song about a man whose wife has left him with “four hungry children and a crop in the field.”

Recorded at Nashville’s American Studio on Aug. 5, 1976, “Lucille” also became one of Rogers’ biggest hits overseas, hitting No. 1 on the UK Singles Chart the week of June 18, 1977.

What Are Some of Kenny Rogers’ Biggest Hits?

He’d go on to become one of the breakout musical superstars of the ’70s and ’80s, landing a long string of country hits that included “Daytime Friends,” “The Gambler,” “She Believes in Me,” “Coward of the County,” “Lady,” “Islands in the Stream” and many more.

Rogers sustained his run of No. 1 hits all the way through 1999, scoring his final chart-topper with “Buy Me a Rose.”

Rogers retired from touring with a splashy all-star concert in Nashville in 2017, and he died on March 20, 2020, leaving behind one of the greatest legacies of any musician of his generation.

PICTURES: See Inside Kenny Rogers’ Staggering California Estate

Kenny Rogers developed a taste for fine living early in his success. His ultra-lavish mansion in Bel Air, Calif., an estate called Lionsgate, was opulent even by celebrity standards. The 11-bedroom, 17-bathroom home totals 23,988 square feet of space, and it sits on 1.63 acres of some of the most expensive real estate in California.

The lavish interior includes a master suite that encompasses more than 3,000 square feet, three separate living rooms, seven fireplaces, a billiards room, a formal study, a private 12-seat theater with leather seats, a climate-controlled wine room that opens onto a saltwater pool, three steam showers and a large dry sauna. The property also features an outdoor glass elevator that leads to a large ballroom party space with an attached guest suite and a professional-sized gym.

The exterior of the house is just as lavish, including an outdoor living area with heated floors and a fully equipped bar, a tennis court with stadium lighting and a viewing area, a hot tub and extensive landscaping. Realtor.com calls Lionsgate the “most prestigious luxury estate” in Bel Air, boasting “possibly the best views in Los Angeles.”
According to Business Insider, Rogers purchased the estate in the 1970s, and he added the lions to the gate and christened the home Lionsgate. He sold it in 1983 for $5.8 million, according to Variety, and the property most recently sold in 2015 for a staggering $46.25 million.
