Legendary guitarist Phil Campbell – best known for his decades with Motörhead – has died at the age of 64.
The news was confirmed via social media by his band Phil Campbell and the Bastard Sons, which includes his sons Todd, Dane, and Tyla Campbell. According to the statement, Campbell passed away peacefully following complications after a major operation.
The band wrote: “It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved father, Philip Anthony Campbell, who passed away peacefully last night following a long and courageous battle in intensive care after a complex major operation.
Phil was a devoted husband, a wonderful father, and a proud and loving grandfather, known affectionately as “Bampi”. He was deeply loved by all who knew him and will be missed immensely. His legacy, music and the memories he created with so many will live on forever.” They also asked that the family’s privacy be respected during this difficult time.
In February, Phil Campbell and the Bastard Sons canceled a run of shows across Australia and Europe scheduled between March and May due to medical advice given to Campbell. No further details were provided at the time.
Campbell joined Motörhead in 1984, remaining with the band until its end in 2015 after the death of frontman Lemmy. Over his 31-year tenure, he became a defining part of the band’s sound and eventually its sole guitarist for the final two decades of the group’s career.
Following Lemmy‘s death in 2015, Motörhead officially ended, and Campbell later formed Phil Campbell and the Bastard Sons with his sons, continuing to tour and release music.

SAN FRANCISCO — The freefalling Golden State Warriors lost four more players to injury Friday night and also lost a fourth consecutive game, 127-117 to the Minnesota Timberwolves, to continue their tumble down the Western Conference standings.
Veteran forward Draymond Green was scratched 30 minutes before tipoff because of lower back soreness. Veteran center Al Horford left after five minutes with right calf tightness. Veteran guard Seth Curry limped to the locker room in the second quarter with left adductor soreness. And second-year center Quinten Post sprained his left ankle.
“We’re going through it,” Warriors coach Steve Kerr said. “We’re about as beaten up as any team I can ever remember.”
The Warriors have been missing their two best players for more than a month. Jimmy Butler tore an ACL in early January and is out for the season. Stephen Curry has been sidelined since Jan. 30 because of a persistent right knee issue.
Stephen Curry missed his 16th consecutive game Friday night, and the Warriors have gone 5-11 in that stretch to fall to 32-34, two games behind the LA Clippers (winners of four straight) for the eighth seed in the Western Conference. They are 8½ games out of the sixth seed.
Green’s back issue doesn’t appear to be serious. He was spotted in the locker room after Friday’s game and appeared to be moving around fine. There was no official word on the severity of the injuries to Post’s ankle or Seth Curry’s adductor. Kerr called Horford’s calf injury a “strain” and indicated an expectation that he would miss time.
“With a calf, we’re not going to rush him back,” Kerr said.
This latest wave of injuries comes at an inopportune time for the Warriors. They begin a six-game road trip Sunday night in New York against the 43-25 Knicks and will also make stops in Boston, Detroit and Atlanta, putting them at serious risk of falling below the Portland Trail Blazers (32-35) into the 10th seed.
Recently acquired center Kristaps Porzingis was a minor bright spot for the Warriors. In his fourth game with the franchise, he upped his workload to 22 minutes and scored 20 points, saying afterward he is making progress with his recent health issues.
But the Warriors were severely outmanned without half of their rotation, falling down by 25 points and never getting closer than nine during a faint second-half comeback.
Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards popped up as questionable earlier in the day with right knee soreness and admitted there was some doubt he would play. But he received the green light an hour before tipoff and proceeded to score 42 points, letting Stephen Curry know about it in front of the Warriors bench after one corner 3.
“That’s my boy,” Edwards said. “Love Steph. Love everything about him. To me, greatest point guard. Love to play against him. If he’s not playing, talk a little trash to him on the side.”
Edwards grabbed at his right knee toward the end of the game but appeared fine postgame, getting in a workout outside the visiting locker room while wearing a sleeve on his right leg.
President Trump said the U.S. military “totally obliterated” every military target on Kharg Island during large-scale precision strikes Friday, thrusting the strategic small isle into the global spotlight.
Just 20 miles off Iran’s northern Gulf coast, Kharg Island is Iran’s hub for oil exports and a key bargaining chip Trump plans to use to keep the Strait of Hormuz open and safe.
The president said U.S. forces avoided the island’s oil export infrastructure, but warned Iran that if they “do anything to interfere with the Free and Safe Passage of Ships through the Strait of Hormuz, I will immediately reconsider this decision.”
Here’s what to know about the heavily fortified island and why it is strategically valuable.
What is Kharg Island?
Kharg Island lies roughly 20 miles off Iran’s northern Gulf coast. For decades, it has served as Iran’s main oil export terminal, historically handling 85–95% of the country’s crude exports.
Tankers load up on the island before heading through the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz. If the island’s loading facilities were knocked out, Iran’s ability to export oil would collapse almost immediately. Oil revenue, earned mainly by selling crude to China, remains one of the Islamic Republic’s most important sources of funding.
Strikes on the oil infrastructure would be a massive escalation in the war that could send global oil markets into a panic, and threats to the island would pressure Tehran’s energy system.
How could strikes threaten Iran’s energy system?
Iran has been threatening the world’s energy markets by keeping the Strait of Hormuz closed to most traffic, but the strikes on Kharg Island show the U.S. can affect Iran.
National security analyst Aaron MacLean told CBS Saturday Morning that Mr. Trump has shown he has leverage if Iran keeps the Strait closed. About 20% of the world’s oil supplies pass through the waterway.
“The president has linked the vulnerability of Kharg Island to Iran’s continued closure of the Strait of Hormuz,” MacLean said.
Oil and gas prices have soared since the war began. A release of 172 million barrels from the United States’ Strategic Petroleum Reserve failed to calm investors, and the price of a barrel of crude oil rose above $100 for the first time in years on Thursday.
Kharg Island has been a target before
This isn’t the first time Kharg Island has been at the center of a war. During the Iran-Iraq War in the 1980s, Saddam Hussein sent Iraqi aircraft to repeatedly bomb the island in an attempt to choke off Iran’s oil revenue. The facilities were badly damaged, but Iran kept repairing them and exports continued.
Since then, Tehran has fortified Kharg heavily, building air defenses, hardened infrastructure and underground storage designed to keep oil flowing even under sustained attack.
While Iran cannot match the United States or Israel in conventional military terms, it has spent decades preparing for asymmetric war. If Kharg Island were seriously threatened, Tehran would likely respond across multiple fronts. Iran’s military could continue to strike U.S. bases across the Gulf, increase attacks by allied militias in Iraq and elsewhere, and keep striking vessels in the Strait of Hormuz using fast attack boats, naval mines and suicide drones.
Iran’s response would not defeat a superior military force head-on, but would make operating in the Gulf painful and expensive.

It’s enough to make it unique, but not so much that country loyalists will bark at the change.
