After quite a bit of back-and-forth dialogue between fans and Connecticut metalcore quartet Boundaries about the band’s newest single, “Skies Cast Amber Black” and the song’s mixing, the band uploaded an additional mix to which fans quickly agreed they liked the sound of more – and now, that version is available on Spotify.
A post in the r/metalcore subreddit of Boundaries‘ newest music video led to a discussion in the comments about the track’s mix and how a lot of them felt it overshadowed some of the band’s best work yet which Boundaries frontman Matthew McDougal caught wind of and addressed himself. By the next day, he had uploaded a second mix of the song which had been done by Drew Fulk (A Day To Remember, Disturbed, Knocked Loose) at the same time as the first one, and explained the band had been going back and forth between the two mixes originally.
Fans were much more impressed by the second mix, so much so that they broke Dropbox’s link for it, leading to McDougal uploading the song to Samply. McDougal continued to interact with fans in the comments of the newest fans about the release, answering questions. A day or so later, the Samply link was disabled and fans were left wondering what was going on it.
It became clear when yesterday the Boundaries Instagram account posted to their stories “Updated mix is live,” with a link to the song on Spotify. It replaces the old mix entirely. You can check it out for yourself here, and find the original report below.
UPDATE: Band Uploads Brand New Version Of Single After ‘Mix’ed Fan Reviews (March 22nd)
Yesterday, Metal Injection reported that Boundaries and their newest single, “Skies cast amber black” had received quite a few critiques on the track’s mixing. To some, it sounded great, to others, they felt the mixing was dampening some of the best material of Boundaries‘ career – all publicly stated in the comments of the music video and on the r/metalcore subreddit. And, Boundaries frontman Matthew McDougal caught wind of this as he responded through a verified Reddit account, addressing people’s criticisms.
Now, McDougal has gone the extra mile, not only by interacting with fans, but taking their ideas to heart and releasing another mix that the band had been sitting on. In the caption of a post titled ‘Boundaries new song with a different mix’ is both a Dropbox link (which at time of writing is temporarily disabled most likely due to the fact that “the link has been shared or downloaded too many times in a day”) with the new mix, and an explanation from McDougalsaying the following (edited for clarity):
“Hey guys, I’ll try to keep this as brief as possible.
“The connection we have with people who listen to us has always been at the forefront of our intentions behind what we make. We love you guys and everyone who has ever bought a shirt or sang a lyric at a show or just listened at home – ultimately, this doesn’t work without either of us, it’s 50% us, 50% you in a weird type of way.
“Obviously, we’ve seen how all over the place the reaction to the latest song mix has been. When we reached the finish line for turning in this latest song we had two mixes we were in love with and we were going back and forth over and over on which to put out. We felt the one that came out was something we identified with and love the sound of and are still completely willing to stay with.
“That being said, there was the other mix that didn’t make the cut. We loved it just as much to the point where I was sending both to friends and asking them to pick one because we just couldn’t.
“In this thread, I am putting the other mix. Do you guys like this one more? Because we loved both and could be happy with either, especially if one makes our listeners happier, in a way that might make us like it even more.
“Just to be clear, it’s the [version] that’s out or this one, there are no other versions we liked, and we don’t want to bring this to anyone else to mix – that’s not fair to who we made this music with. I know this is a unique situation we’ve found ourselves in, but we did not want to ignore how gentle and loving a lot of the reactions were to what we put out. It seemed to really come from the hearts of people this band means a lot to, that liked the song and wished they could like it even more.
“And it’s obviously completely fine to not like either mix, I’m not looking for people to feel like they need to say one is better to them – this is just such a specific situation where we happened to have two mixes we really liked haha.
“Anyways, thanks for your time and continued support, ya’ll are our world. Also I don’t know how to make posts with links in them and stuff so I just did my best.”
Fans are already raving that they much prefer this newer mix, saying things along the lines of, “Holy fuck this mix is so much better,” and “both mixes are hard as fuck but this new one is a lot more raw and fits the original style you guys had, very nice.”
Edited at 1pm EST on 22 March:Matthew McDougal kindly fixed what was originally a broken Dropbox link by providing a link for the track on Samply. You can find that link here.
New BOUNDARIES Single Seems To Be Met With ‘Mix’ed Reviews; Band Responds (March 21st)
Everyone is a critic these days – and no one is immune, Boundaries included.
After signing to Sumerian Records and releasing their newest single, “Skies cast amber black” this past Friday (20th March), there were quite a few fans in the comments, commenting on the production and mixing of the track, disappointed by technicalities which, for some, overshadow what could be Boundaries best song yet.
Between YouTube and Reddit, remarks like “someone put a boundary on the low-end in the mix I believe,” and “awesome buildup and then just completely fucked by the horrible mix” were pretty common, and Boundaries vocalist Matthew McDougal caught wind of this while scrolling through the r/metalcore subreddit.
Commenting on a post of the band’s new video in the subreddit, McDougal says that (edited for clarity): “Really appreciate y’all for checking this out early, this sub has always been so supportive of us. I look forward to seeing how you guys react to our art more than I do any other platform at this point.
“As far as why Sumerian, it’s pretty much the new Sharptone because the guy that ran that label moved to Sumerian and we went with him, shopped labels for a bit but [in] real life we’d get responses back akin to “They don’t make r&b music over low-tuned guitars or stream well enough – not interested,” so the landscape for places that will take on what we do artistically is sadly not as wide as one might think.
“More and more labels are looking for overnight success-TikTok bands they can rob blind and dump after a year, which is largely what this song is about coincidentally. So far, [Sumerian] has been great to us and we are looking forward to making a home here for at least the next little while, and using the significant step up in resources to make even cooler stuff.
“That all being said, we had no clue the mix would be so divisive – we spent months on it and really love how it came out and we’re thankful for your honesty regarding how it hits people’s ears for the first time. I’ve been listening to this song in my room since fucking November and this mix really grew on me… maybe it will with everyone else as well? Who friggin knows.
“I can’t wait to be on the road playing it for you guys. We have so much more music locked and loaded.”
A few fans noted that the mix didn’t seem as bad with the YouTube music video, and McDougal pointed out that streaming platforms have their own settings which can impact the sound people hear, “All the platforms sound different, to be honest. Spotify has lossless listening now and they have their own EQ, YouTube has their own EQ – it legit sounds mad different on everything, but I can tell you the downloaded version on PC I am in love with.” A Qobuz user replied in turn that it sounded “fantastic,” through that streaming platform.
Guitarist Cody DelVecchio was also in the comments, confirming he was indeed providing screaming vocals throughout the track.

The best Reba McEntire songs run the listener through the full gamut of human emotions.
McEntire has had hits with uptempo barnburners, heartbreaking ballads and just about everything in between.
Starting off with her early days in the ’70s as a rodeo-performer-turned-country singer, this Country Music Hall of Famer has been steadily assembling a catalog of hits that few other artists can rival.
With 24 No. 1 country hits to her name, McEntire has seen the top of the charts more times than any other woman in country music history, with the exception of Dolly Parton.
You’ll find plenty of those hits on our list of McEntire’s biggest career-defining songs, but the singer’s discography also shows that there’s more to her career than just radio success.
Some of these songs, for example, might’ve only been mild radio hits, but they’ve gone on to become audience favorites that are staples in her live show.
McEntire’s career also proves that she’s got staying power through the decades. The newest song on this list was released in 2023.
From sobering ballads like “She Thinks His Name Was John” to fan-favorite singalongs like “Why Haven’t I Heard From You,” McEntire’s discography proves that vocally, she can do it all.
A visit to a Reba show, or a listen through her catalog, will make you cry, laugh, dance and sing your heart out.
“This might be the only rodeo I’ve won that my dad hasn’t,” joked 2026 RODEOHOUSTON champion steer wrestler Holden Myers.
At one of rodeo’s richest and most prestigious stages, Myers delivered a defining performance. Not only capturing his first RODEOHOUSTON title, but also continuing a family legacy deeply rooted in the sport. After finishing as the 2025 reserve RODEOHOUSTON champion, the son of world champion Rope Myers returned determined to finish the job.
“My dad has always been my number one coach and supporter,” Myers said. “From junior rodeos to now, I’ve learned so much from him. He’s taught me to always finish my cattle — that’s the most important part of your run.”
He did exactly that.
With a fast 4.0-second run, Myers topped a competitive four-man shootout to claim the title in a pressure-packed final round, delivering the fastest time of the night when it mattered most and securing his place in the winner’s circle.
“This win means a lot,” he said. “It’s a great start to the year. Last year was my first time in Houston, and I finished second. Coming into the short round, I knew what I needed to do.”
Following in the footsteps of his grandfather, world champion and RODEOHOUSTON champion Butch Myers, the multi-generational talent relied on both experience and strategy in the championship round.
With a focused mindset, Myers understood and executed his Championship Round game plan.
“Once I made the four-man, I knew I had to max that steer and hit the barrier just right,” he said. “I definitely didn’t want to end up second again.”
After narrowly missing his first National Finals Rodeo qualification in 2025, Myers is off to a blazing start in 2026. With $81,243 in earnings — including $70,750 from Houston — he now sits atop the PRCA world standings, positioning himself as an early contender for his first trip to Las Vegas.
Although it’s only March, Myers has nearly matched his season’s total earnings in 2025, an exciting indicator for the remainder of the 2026 season.
Despite the momentum, Myers said his approach won’t change, a mindset shaped by the family and support system that built him.
“Growing up in such a strong rodeo family has been awesome,” he said. “I have a pretty great rodeo extended family, too. Family friends that my family made while they were rodeoing have also helped me out along the rodeo road.”
And while the 2026 RODEOHOUSTON title adds another chapter to the Myers name, Holden’s season is just getting started — with his sights set not only on carrying the legacy forward, but carving his own under the bright lights of the National Finals Rodeo come December.
French police stopped an apparent bomb attack outside a Bank of America building in Paris early Saturday, and a man was arrested as he was about to set off a homemade explosive device.
Police grabbed the man just after he placed a device, made of nine pints of a liquid believed to be fuel, 23 ounces of explosive powder, and an ignition system, according to an initial assessment. The device will undergo a full analysis at the Paris police’s forensics lab.
The incident occurred around 3:30 a.m., while the office was closed. No employees were injured, according to the bank. The building is located in Paris’ chic 8th arrondissement, a few streets away from the Champs-Élysées.
A suspect is in custody, France’s National Anti-Terrorist Prosecutor’s Office told CBS News.

The office told CBS News it has opened an investigation into the charges of attempted arson or dangerous damage in connection with a terrorist enterprise, manufacture of an incendiary or explosive device in connection with a terrorist enterprise, possession and transport of an incendiary or explosive device with the intent to prepare dangerous damage, in connection with a terrorist enterprise and terrorist conspiracy.
The Paris police and France’s domestic intelligence service are also investigating, the prosecutor’s office said.
Bank of America head of global media relations Jessica Oppenheim told CBS News that the company is “aware of the situation” and is “communicating with authorities.”
French interior minister Laurent Nunez praised the police officers’ fast actions on X and said they stopped “a violent action of a terrorist nature last night in Paris.”
