RUSH Return To The Stage At the Juno Awards, Playing Live With New Drummer ANIKA NILLES For The First Time

0

Rush opened the 2026 Juno Awards on 03/29 with their first live performance in over 11 years, and the first of any kind since the death of drummer and lyricist Neil Peart in January 2020.

Playing the TD Coliseum in Hamilton, Ontario, Geddy Lee, Alex Lifeson, new drummer Anika Nilles, and keyboardist Loren Gold ripped through “Finding My Way,” the opening track from the band’s 1974 self-titled debut.

The song choice was no accident, even if the decision-making was straightforward. Speaking to reporters in the media room after the performance, Lee explained (via CBC Music): “You really can’t ask us what song to play. If we have to choose one song, it’s almost impossible. We have so many. So we just asked management, and they said first song, first album.”

Lifeson had a simpler explanation: “Also, it’s the only song we know how to play.”

The appearance had been teased by the band in the lead-up to the ceremony with a deliberately cryptic newsletter message to fans: “We want to let you in on something. Celebrate a special moment with Geddy & Alex.” The Juno Awards Instagram account had added to the build-up by posting a photo of the band’s 1975 Juno for Most Promising Group with the caption: “What a promising year… 03/29/2026 at 8 PM ET.”

The performance at Hamilton’s TD Coliseum marked the first time Lee and Lifeson had played as Rush since closing out their career-spanning R40 tour at the Forum in Los Angeles on 08/01/2015. In the decade-plus since, the two had appeared together only sporadically — billed under their own names rather than the band’s — including at tributes to the late Gordon Lightfoot and Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins.

The Juno outing doubles as a warm-up for the Fifty Something tour, which opens 06/07 at the same Forum in Los Angeles where Rush played their last show with Peart in 2015. What was announced in October 2025 as a modest 12-date North American run has since expanded into 58 shows across the United States, Canada, and Mexico, with four nights at Toronto’s Scotiabank Arena in August among the additions. Each concert is designed as an immersive two-set evening drawing from a rotating pool of approximately 35 songs.

WWE WrestleMania 42: John Cena to serve as host months after wrestling retirement

Three weeks out from WrestleMania 42 in Las Vegas, WWE has found a host for the biggest event on the 2026 wrestling calendar.

John Cena, three months removed from the end of his WWE retirement tour, announced in a video that he’ll make the short trip from Hollywood to Las Vegas to serve as the event’s host on April 18 and 19 at Allegiant Stadium.

It didn’t take long for WWE to call Cena back into action — even if he’s not actually wrestling — after his retirement at the end of 2025. There will be plenty of speculation about whether Cena will get involved in the ring while serving as host, as we’ve seen happen with previous WrestleMania hosts like “Stone Cold” Steve Austin and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.

Cena put a bow on his wrestling career in December, tapping out to Gunther in his final match that ended an up-and-down retirement tour throughout 2025. That included an ill-fated heel turn that initially caused excitement with fans who had long wanted to see a Cena heel run, but ultimately “bombed” — Cena’s words, not mine.

While Cena’s retirement allowed him to shift his full focus to his acting career, he couldn’t help but make a quick return to help WWE out with a WrestleMania that has struggled to create the kind of buzz we’ve seen from recent installments. Wrestling retirements are always a bit tricky, and no matter how successful a past superstar becomes outside the ring that connection to WWE and wrestling never truly leaves.

It will also provide a stage for a bit more fitting send-off for Cena from WWE fans. Cena’s in-ring career ended on a Saturday Night Main Event because of the decision to make his final run in the ring a calendar year event in 2025, rather than finishing his run at WrestleMania in front of the biggest crowd of the year.

Air Canada CEO will retire this year after English-only crash message criticized

0

TORONTO — Air Canada announced Monday its CEO will retire later this year, after Michael Rousseau was criticized for his English-only message of condolence following this month’s deadly crash in New York.

Canada’s largest airline, based in French-speaking Quebec, said Rousseau told the board he will leave by the end of the third quarter.

Canada is an officially bilingual nation, and Prime Minister Mark Carney had said the English-only message showed a lack of compassion and judgment. Quebec’s premier and others called on the airline executive to resign.

Antoine Forest, one of the two pilots killed in the crash at LaGuardia Airport, was a French-speaking Quebecer. Forest and Mackenzie Gunther died when the Air Canada Jazz flight from Montreal collided with a fire truck on the runway shortly after landing.

Canada’s largest airline is headquartered in Montreal. Rousseau previously had been criticized for not speaking French. He delivered his condolence video message in English, with French subtitles. The Office of the Commissioner of Official Languages has received hundreds of complaints about it.

Steven MacKinnon, Canada’s transport minister, thanked Rousseau in a social media post and said the government will continue to work closely with Air Canada to ensure it “provides safe, reliable, affordable, and bilingual service to all Canadians.”

Quebec Premier François Legault noted that when Rousseau was appointed president of the airline in February 2021, he promised to learn French.

Quebec’s identity has been contentious since the 1760s, when the British completed their takeover of what was then called New France. Quebec is about 80% French-speaking.

Kid Rock Salutes Military Helicopter, Draws Fan Backlash

0

Kid Rock drew both praise and criticism after posting video of a military helicopter flying right up to his White House replica home.

Some called the moment patriotic. Others saw it as a social media stunt and a waste of taxpayer money.

Watch Kid Rock Salute a Military Helicopter Outside His House

The clip shows Rock standing poolside on the roof of his extravagant, White House replica, Nashville-area home. This home is so committed to displaying American pride, it even looks like the singer’s standing next to a Statue of Liberty replica by his pool.

The singer fist-pumps, applauds and salutes the aircraft as it hovers just feet from his balcony.

Rock celebrated the moment in the caption of his post. He also took the opportunity to side-swipe California Gov. Gavin Newsom, who semi-jokingly “banned” Rock from the state last month.

“This is a level of respect that s–t for brains governor of California will never know,” Rock wrote. “God Bless America and all those who have made the ultimate sacrifice to defend her.”

What Did Fans Say After Kid Rock Shared Video of Himself Saluting a Military Helicopter?

Rock’s video drew some backlash, but not because of his comments about Newsom.

Rather some fans wondered whose idea it was for Rock to get a personal flyover, and questioned how much taxpayer money was spent in the process.

“I’m so glad that our tax dollars are paying for Kid Rock to have a military fly by,” one user wrote.

“Using our tax payer dollars that fund the military for social media stunts…nothing weird, right?” added another.

No information about who initiated and authorized the moment was immediately available. A social media post from Occupy Democrats raised those questions, saying that “military flyovers are normally reserved for official events, funerals or training exercises.”

“Private low-altitude passes over a civilian celebrity’s home are highly unusual and have prompted accusations of wasting public resources to stroke egos or reward political allies,” the post continues.

But many other social media users applauded the moment, calling it an “honor” and saying that there’s “no truer Patriot” than Rock.

And multiple country stars shared approving comments on the post. Randy Houser shared a string of emojis depicting fire and the American flag. Chase Rice jokingly asked Rock for his pool guy’s number, presumably because the pool in the video is so pristine.

What’s the Deal With Kid Rock’s White House Replica Home?

Kid Rock calls his home “The Southern White House,” and you can see a banner with that name in the video he posted from the pool.

It’s a 27,000-square-foot home in Tennessee that Rock spent over 20 years having built.

Rock’s home is certainly a statement piece, but it’s been difficult to find photos and videos of the inside over the years. Most available images are aerial shots or screenshots from video obtained by Fox News.

Uncle Kracker and Zac Brown have been guests at the home. Dierks Bentley‘s seen it, too, but only from his plane while flying around Nashville.

Sources: NFL, far apart with NFLRA, to begin hiring replacement refs

0

PHOENIX — NFL owners are “alarmed” by the state of negotiations with the NFL Referees Association and have authorized staff members to begin hiring and onboarding replacement officials in the coming weeks, league sources said Sunday at the start of the league meetings.

The NFL began compiling a list of college-level officials to recruit earlier this month, and owners are expected this week to approve a sweeping set of replay enhancements to support replacement officials in preseason and regular-season games. A league source said that training of the new replacement officials will begin May 1.

According to a source, once that happens, “The opportunity to reach an agreement with our current union becomes a bigger challenge, just from simple economics.”

That effectively leaves about a month for the sides to bridge what league sources said are wide gaps in their proposals, from economics to the seasonal structure of the job.

In a statement to multiple media outlets, NFLRA executive director Scott Green called out league sources for putting out “false and misleading information”

“The bottom line is our officials work for the wealthiest sports league in America, with profits that far exceed any of the others,” Green said. “That’s normally a point of pride for the NFL. However, our officials are substantially under-compensated when compared to baseball and basketball umpires and referees. Our officials also aren’t provided the health care benefits that those at 345 Park Avenue have.”

The NFL’s collective bargaining agreement with the NFLRA expires May 31. The league sent a memo to each club last week prohibiting public comment on the situation. But as owners, league officials and team staffers gathered this weekend at the Arizona Biltmore resort, sources painted a dire portrait of the likelihood of an agreement before replacement officials are hired.

One of the league sources said the league office is expecting and preparing for a lockout.

“We are so close to expiration and so far apart on economics, that unless an act of God gets involved…” the source said.

During the last lockout in 2012, a league source said the league’s mistake was waiting until July to prepare for replacement officials.

“To expect people to jump from college to the pros and change in speed in that short of time is destined to be a challenge to succeed,” the league source said. “We’re not going to do that.

“There will be no panic, and we have begun preparations for the expiration. We have to do it. Otherwise, it would be just gross negligence.”

According to sources, the NFL has offered the NFLRA a six-year deal that averages annual raises of 6.45%. The average NFL official earned $385,000 in 2025. The league has also pushed the NFLRA to allow several fundamental changes to officials’ job structure, which the NFLRA has largely resisted.

“To expect people to jump from college to the pros and change in speed in that short of time is destined to be a challenge to succeed. We’re not going to do that. There will be no panic, and we have begun preparations for the expiration. We have to do it. Otherwise, it would be just gross negligence.”

League source to ESPN

“The owners are alarmed that this negotiation has been as challenging as it’s been,” a league source said. “They are alarmed that the union has resisted the performance and accountability measures.”

Those measures include:

  • Increasing the probationary period for new officials from three to five years

  • Shortening the “dead period” during the offseason to allow for more training, including a requirement for lower-performing officials to work spring football games to help improve their performances

  • Reducing the seniority-based approach to covering playoff games and largely replacing it with assignments based on performance

“We really want to follow the model, which is the NFL’s kind of DNA, of you pay for performance,” a league source said. “You have to perform every day. Players do it, coaches do it, lawyers do it, owners do it, and we continue trying to test ourselves and improve.”

“We had ‘high performing officials’ who worked this year’s Championship games and the Super Bowl who were paid less for those games than what they were paid for a regular season game,” countered Green. “That certainly isn’t rewarding performance, as the NFL claims is their goal.”
