Woman who stole a truck and led Albuquerque police on a chase is sentenced

Date:

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Judge Brett Loveless handed down a sentence for a woman who stole a truck and led Albuquerque police on a chase, ending in a SWAT standoff in May 2023.

Roberta Chavez used a gun to steal a truck at the Dion’s near Coors and Central. Police say they pursed the stolen vehicle, but later called off the pursuit. Later that night, police found the stolen vehicle at a gas station and Chavez is accused of trying to hit another car in the stolen vehicle. When police tried to arrest Chavez, she barricaded herself inside the vehicle. APD’s SWAT team was activated and Chavez was eventually arrested.

Chavez pleaded guilty to armed robbery and aggravated fleeing. Judge Loveless sentenced her to five years behind bars and another five years of supervised probation.
