A woman was sentenced to 15 years in prison with all but three years suspended for her role in the crash that killed a former NFL player. The sentence comes after Cori Clingman, 25, was indicted and later convicted on three counts of negligent homicide under the influence of alcohol in connection with the deaths of former Minnesota Vikings player Khyree Jackson and two others.Jackson was a rookie in the NFL, drafted to the Vikings just a couple of months before the fatal crash.Clingman was driving in one car while Jackson was in another car with Isaiah Hazel and Anthony Lytton Jr. The four were friends, officials said.Officials said Clingman and the driver of the other vehicle were traveling at a high speed before the crash around 3:15 a.m. on July 6, 2024.”This case is a painful reminder of how one reckless decision can permanently alter countless lives,” said Tara Jackson, Prince George’s County, Maryland, state’s attorney. “It was heartbreaking to hear Khyree, Isaiah, and Anthony’s parents speak of their children’s dreams being taken away; children they can no longer raise, guide, or protect. While today’s sentence holds the defendant accountable, it cannot undo their loss. I hope this outcome deters even one person from speeding recklessly or driving impaired and helps prevent another family and community from enduring this kind of loss.”
