Red Flag Warnings and Blowing Dust Advisories for the Central and East

ALL RIGHT. WE’RE GETTING A LITTLE SHAKE OUT OF THE PRESBYTERIAN CAMERA HERE AS SOME 30 MILE PER HOUR WIND GUSTS ARE ALREADY HITTING THE ALBUQUERQUE METRO. WATCH A COUPLE SPRINKLES THIS MORNING. IT’S A MULTIPLE DAY STRONG WIND AND FIRE DANGER THREAT SCENARIO GOING ON HERE. RAIN AND SNOW CHANCES OVER THE NEXT SEVERAL DAYS, THEY’LL FAVOR WESTERN AND NORTHERN NEW MEXICO. WE’RE GOING TO DROP THOSE TEMPERATURES AND STAY CHILLY RIGHT ON INTO THE WEEKEND. THE FIRST COLD FRONT COMING THROUGH TODAY. AND AS IT BRINGS A LITTLE RAIN AND SNOW TO CENTRAL, WESTERN AND NORTHERN NEW MEXICO THIS MORNING AND MIDDAY, YOU CAN SEE THERE’S QUITE A DISSIPATION OF THOSE SHOWERS INTO THE AFTERNOON AND EVENING. HIGHS 40S AND 50S NORTH. WE ARE STILL GOING TO BE IN THE 60S AND 70, THOUGH AROUND THE SOUTHERN AND EASTERN EDGES OF THE STATE. AS FAR AS WHERE WE PICK UP SIGNIFICANT SNOW, IT’S ON THE MOUNTAINS OF SOUTHWEST COLORADO, THE TWO SOURCE MOUNTAINS THERE, WRAPPING AROUND THE SANGRE DE CRISTOS AND ALSO THE CHUSKA MOUNTAINS THERE NORTH AND WEST OF GALLUP, PICKING UP THE SNOW ACCUMULATION. AFTERNOON WIND GUSTS STRONGEST EAST AND SOUTHERN NEW MEXICO, I THINK FOR WESTERN AND CENTRAL NEW MEXICO, IT’S GOING TO BE A MORNING AND MIDDAY KIND OF WIND PEAK. BUT HERE’S WHERE WE’VE GOT THE WIND WARNINGS FOR THE GUSTS TO 70 POTENTIALLY. THAT’S OUT UP AND DOWN EASTERN NEW MEXICO. ALBUQUERQUE IS INCLUDED ON TODAY’S WIND ADVISORY FOR GUSTS TO 55. FIRE WEATHER WARNINGS OUT EAST TODAY. THESE ARE FIRE WEATHER WATCHES IN EFFECT FOR WEDNESDAY, SO ALBUQUERQUE WILL LIKELY BE PLACED UNDER A RED FLAG WARNING TOMORROW. TODAY, THE FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS NOT QUITE AS BAD AS WE’VE GOT A LITTLE MORE HUMIDITY IN THE AIR. NO SOUTHEASTERN NEW MEXICO. THOSE ARE DUST ADVISORIES AROUND CARLSBAD AND HOBBS FOR LIMITED VISIBILITY AND VERY DIFFICULT TRAVEL CONDITIONS. NOTE THAT TEMPERATURES TONIGHT DROPPING BELOW FREEZING IN ALBUQUERQUE. LOTS OF 20S ACROSS THE WEST AND NORTH. IT’S GOING TO BE OUR COLDEST NIGHT IN QUITE SOME TIME. COULD STILL SEE SOME FLURRIES AND SNOW SHOWERS GOING THERE ON THE MOUNTAINS OF SOUTHWEST COLORADO. THEN DURING THE DAY ON WEDNESDAY, IT’S ANOTHER WAVE OF PRECIPITATION THAT WILL ARRIVE LATER IN THE DAY. IT’S AFTERNOON AND EVENING WHERE RAIN, WINTRY MIX AND SNOW CHANCES HERE FOR CENTRAL, WESTERN AND NORTHERN NEW MEXICO. TEMPERATURES WILL STILL FIND THEIR WAY INTO THE 50S AND 60S, EKING OUT ANOTHER DAY OF LOWER 70S THERE AROUND ROSWELL AND CARLSBAD. THE WIND GUSTS TOMORROW WIDESPREAD IN THE 35 TO 45 MILE PER HOUR RANGE. THOSE BROWN SHADED SPOTS IN SOUTHERN NEW MEXICO, WHERE THE GUSTS ARE GOING TO BE UP AROUND 50, SO NOT QUITE AS STRONG OF A WIND TODAY, BUT CLOSE. THIS IS THURSDAY, AND THURSDAY IS THE DAY WHERE THERE’S A SIGNIFICANT TEMPERATURE DROP. WE’RE BARELY ABOVE 50 IN ALBUQUERQUE, DOWN TO THE 60S IN SOUTHERN NEW MEXICO. A LITTLE MORE PRECIPITATION FAVORING WESTERN AND NORTHERN NEW MEXICO. JUST SOME SNOW FLURRIES, WIND GUSTS, 20S AND 30S ON OUR THURSDAY. THIS IS FRIDAY AND THERE’S THIS NEXT WAVE OF PRECIPITATION. FRIDAY COULD ACTUALLY BRING THE DAY. BE THE DAY RATHER. THAT BRINGS THE BEST CHANCE OF WINTRY MIX AND SNOW SHOWERS TO ALBUQUERQUE AND ALSO PORTIONS OF CENTRAL, WESTERN AND NORTHERN NEW MEXICO. AND THERE WILL LIKELY BE ANOTHER BLAST OF STRONG WINDS HITTING THE SOUTH AND EAST, AS THAT PRECIPITATION FAVORS THE CENTRAL, WEST AND NORTH. HERE YOU GO. NORTHWEST NEW MEXICO, FOUR CORNERS AREA. GOOD CHANCES AT RAIN AND MOUNTAIN SNOW TODAY. A LITTLE BIT OF LINGERING ACTION TOMORROW. WINDY NEXT COUPLE DAYS. THURSDAY’S A BREAK FRIDAY. THAT COULD BE THE BEST CHANCE AT RAIN AND SNOW HERE OF THE WEEK. WE’RE DOWN TO 37. A NOTE THAT TEMPERATURE RISE THROUGH THE WEEKEND WITH SUN FILLED SKIES. HERE’S SOUTHWEST NEW MEXICO. WE’RE GENERALLY UP AROUND 60. SILVER CITY, THOUGH, ONLY HITS 49. WE’LL BE WATCHING FOR A CHANCE OF SOME RAIN, SOME WINTRY MIX SHOWERS MAINLY THIS MORNING, THEN A CHANCE OF RAIN AND MOUNTAIN SNOW. PROBABLY STAYS NORTH, BUT WIND BLASTED TODAY. TOMORROW AGAIN ON FRIDAY WEEKEND HAS US BACK AT 55 TO 60 DEGREE RANGE. HERE’S SOUTHEAST NEW MEXICO. WE’RE STILL QUITE MILD TODAY. IN THE 70S. HIGH WIND WARNINGS TODAY LIKELY CONTINUING TOMORROW. BIG TIME DANGEROUS FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS. THURSDAY A BRIEF BREAK. FRIDAY PROBABLY ANOTHER DAY WITH STRONG GUSTY WINDS HITTING. MAYBE NOT RIVALING TODAY. TOMORROW’S WIND SPEEDS, BUT CLOSE. NORTHEAST NEW MEXICO ONLY AROUND 50 TODAY. ANY CHANCE AT A WINTRY MIX? SHOWERS WILL STAY GENERALLY UP ON THE HIGH TERRAIN, BUT THERE WILL BE A LITTLE OF THAT OUT THERE. 51 AGAIN TOMORROW. HIGH WIND WARNINGS, BACK TO BACK DAYS. WIND ADVISORIES LIKELY FOR THURSDAY. FRIDAY. FINALLY A BREAK FROM THAT WIND FOR THE UPCOMING WEEKEND. BACK TO 50 BY SUNDAY. NORTH CENTRAL NEW MEXICO WE’RE ONLY IN THE 40S TO AROUND 50 DEGREES TODAY AND AGAIN TOMORROW. WATCHING FOR THE WINTRY MIX. SHOWERS TODAY, TOMORROW, THURSDAY, FRIDAY AND THE WORST OF THE WIND HITS TODAY AND TOMORROW. STAYING JUST BELOW THAT ADVISORY THRESHOLD. THURSDAY FRIDAY. BUT THOSE WILL NOT BE EASY DAYS TO GET THROUGH THE ALBUQUERQUE METRO DOWN IN THE 50S AFTER THE 60S YESTERDAY, WATCHING FOR A CHANCE OF RAIN. WINTER MIX SHOWERS MAINLY THIS MORNING AND MIDDAY. THERE’S ANOTHER CHANCE COMING LATE BOTH TODAY AND TOMORROW. STRONG WIND DAYS, NOT QUITE AS WINDY THURSDAY.

In addition to the wind, dust and fire danger concern for much of central and eastern New Mexico today, parts of the northern mountains and up into southwest Colorado we have winter weather advisories and even winter storm warnings for significant snow accumulation along with concerns of blizzard-like conditions as the snow will get blown around quite a bit. Overall it is a difficult travel day across the state.Tonight will be much colder than the past several nights with much of central, western and northern New Mexico expected to make a drop below freezing with a temporary break in the chance of rain and snow. But another wave of rain and snow is expected to move into western and northern New Mexico tomorrow, and with it will come another blast of wind hitting the state with gusts back in the 40-50 mph range around the state and more concerns about dust and fire danger.Thursday will serve as a brief break from the strong winds and chances at rain and snow, then on Friday another wave of rain and snow is expected to move through – once again mainly just hitting the western and northern parts of the state and it could be the wettest day of the week – and this could result in another round of strong wind gusts and fire danger concerns one more time before skies settle down for the weekend.
