Another round of afternoon storms will bring heavy rain to parts of New Mexico again Friday. Drier weather starts moving in this weekend with some very hot temperatures returning too.
Heavy rain has again been falling in parts of New Mexico Thursday. More burn scar flash flooding occurred this afternoon in the Ruidoso area. Other storms across the state have also been causing Flash Flood Warnings. Storms developed over parts of the Albuquerque Metro tonight, dropping over 2″ of rain in southern Rio Rancho and causing a Flash Flood Warning. In total, over 20 Flash Flood Warnings have been issued today in the state. Most of the rain will end overnight, but with a few lingering showers into Friday morning in eastern New Mexico.
Another round of afternoon storms will develop across the state Friday. A few strong to severe storms will be possible in northeast New Mexico, but all storms tomorrow will again bring a threat of heavy rain and flash flooding. Temperatures will also be hotter than today.
Drier weather begins moving in Saturday. A few afternoon storms are still likely in the afternoon across northern and northeastern New Mexico along with mountain peaks in southern New Mexico. Temperatures will be even hotter though. Sunday will bring dry weather to almost all of New Mexico as temperatures continue to heat up. Many locations in southern New Mexico will climb into the triple-digits.
Dry and hot weather will stick around into early next week. A stretch of triple-digit heat will continue across southern New Mexico as well. While almost all of New Mexico will stay dry, a pop up storm or two will be possible across some of the mountain peaks. That chance for rain will increase slightly with more isolated afternoon storms starting Wednesday. But the heat will continue with near record heat.
