A big night of fights is always exciting, but the return of the UFC’s biggest star gets the buzz going at max levels. On Saturday, Conor McGregor returns from five years on the sidelines to take on Max Holloway in the welterweight main event of the UFC 329 fight card from T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
McGregor faces an uphill battle in his first fight in five years. A crazy stat that sums up most of the battle he’s facing with inactivity is that Alex Pereira, the former two-division champion who attempted to jump to a third weight class for a title in June, has had his entire 13-fight UFC career in the time since McGregor last step foot in the Octagon.
Recovering from a devastating injury like a leg break is never easy. The two highest profile fighters to suffer a similar injury, Anderson Silva and Chris Weidman, went a combined 2-7, 1 NC in eight fights after returning.

Holloway, meanwhile, really hit his stride as a pro in 2016. He earned the interim featherweight title with a win over Anthony Pettis before unifying it with a TKO of Jose Aldo in Brazil. He followed it up with another TKO in the rematch before doing the same against Brian Ortega. Holloway chose to move up to 155 pounds in pursuit of greatness where he was outclassed by Dustin Poirier for the interim lightweight crown. He returned to featherweight to defend his title once more before dropping it to all-time great Alexander Volkanovski.

In the co-main event, another European superstar is back and ready to thrill fans with his action style when Paddy “The Baddy” Pimblett returns to take on rising lightweight contender Benoit Saint Denis. Pimblett suffered his first loss in UFC in January at the hands of new undisputed champion Justin Gaethje in a brutal brawl that went the distance. Now, Pimblett hopes a strong showing against Saint Denis can get him right back to the title conversation. It’ll be a tall task as “BSD” has himself bounced back from a pair of difficult losses to put himself near the top of the division.
