Watching for more scattered thunderstorms this afternoon, Ruidoso back under a Flood Watch

More storms expected Saturday afternoon, but skies look to dry out later in the weekend

QUARTER AFTER FIVE HERE ON YOUR FRIDAY MORNING. WE’RE STILL IN SCATTERED STORM MODE, AND THAT IS GOING TO ACT TO HELP KEEP THE HEAT IN A PRETTY REASONABLE LEVEL. BUT BY SUNDAY, NOT ONLY DO WE DRY IT OUT AROUND THE STATE, BUT TEMPERATURES START TO INCREASE. IT’S GOING TO BE THAT STORY INTO EARLY NEXT WEEK BEFORE MAYBE BY THE MIDDLE OF NEXT WEEK, WE’LL HAVE SOME SMALL STORM CHANCES MAKING A RETURN. MOISTURE STILL AROUND IN THE STATE HERE, BUT THERE’S SOME DRY ORANGE SHADED AIR HERE ON THE WATER VAPOR LOOP OFF TO OUR WEST. AND ALREADY BY TOMORROW THAT WILL SHUT DOWN STORM CHANCES IN PARTS OF NEW MEXICO. TODAY, THE ONLY DRY A CORNER OF THE STATE IS GOING TO BE THE NORTHWEST SANTA FE. ALBUQUERQUE. GRANTED, IT’S ONLY A SLIGHT CHANCE, BUT EASTERN AND SOUTHERN NEW MEXICO. SCATTERED SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS FIRE WITH HIGHS IN THE 80S LOWER 90S. RUIDOSO CERTAINLY AN AREA OF CONCERN AS THE NORTHERN PART OF THE SACRAMENTO MOUNTAINS. WE’VE HAD RECENT RAINS HERE ON AN ALMOST DAILY BASIS. SO THE SOILS BECOMING SATURATED. SO EACH DAY GOING FORWARD, IT TAKES A LITTLE LESS RAIN TO CAUSE THE PROBLEMS. YOUR FLOOD WATCH IN EFFECT FROM NOON UNTIL SIX. HEAVY RAINFALL CONCERNS IN PLAY FOR EAST, CENTRAL AND SOUTHEAST NEW MEXICO. NOW OVERNIGHT TONIGHT WE WILL SEE THE SHOWERS AND STORMS GRADUALLY WORK TOWARDS AN END, AND LOWS FOR MOST OF US WILL BE SOMEWHERE IN THE 50S AND 60S SIMILAR TO WHAT WE’RE WAKING UP TO THIS MORNING. NOW, TOMORROW WE ARE GOING TO SHUT DOWN THE STORMS FOR THE SOUTHWEST PART OF THE STATE, BUT STILL PROBABLY FIRE STORMS ALONG THE CENTRAL MOUNTAIN CHAIN AND OUT INTO PORTIONS OF EASTERN NEW MEXICO. AND THE HEAT STILL REASONABLE. IT’S 80S LOWER 90S FOR HIGHS. NOTICE THAT DRIER AIR DOES WORK IN. WE’LL HAVE A LITTLE WIND AROUND THE FOUR CORNERS AREA. FIRE WEATHER WATCH IS ALREADY BEING ISSUED FOR SATURDAY AFTERNOON FOR WELL, CHINLE AND APACHE COUNTY, ARIZONA. SOUTHEAST UTAH, PARTS OF SOUTHWEST COLORADO. THOSE WILL LIKELY TURN INTO RED FLAG WARNINGS. NOW, SUNDAY IS THE DAY THAT THAT DRIER AIR WORKS IN FROM THE WEST. TEMPERATURES A LITTLE HOTTER STILL MAY NOT CLIMB OUT OF THE 80S FOR TAOS, SANTA FE, MORIARTY, BUT ALBUQUERQUE IS UP AT 93. AND LOOK AT THOSE TRIPLE DIGITS BACK ON THE MAP THERE IN SOUTHEASTERN NEW MEXICO. AS WE WRAP UP THE WEEKEND, NORTHWEST NEW MEXICO FOUR CORNERS AREA. BOY JUST CAN’T GET IN ON THE RAIN. CHANCE FUN HERE. A LOT OF US LOOK AT CORTEZ AND DURANGO AT 90 OR ABOVE 90 FOR TODAY. AND FOR FARMINGTON, WE’RE GOING TO DO THOSE SAME TEMPERATURES TOMORROW AND THEN BACK OFF ON THE NUMBERS SLIGHTLY. SUNDAY. MONDAY. THERE COULD BE MAYBE ISOLATED RAIN CHANCES TOWARDS A TUESDAY WEDNESDAY TIME PERIOD THAT WE’LL BE WATCHING FOR SOUTHWEST NEW MEXICO. ONE MORE DAY OF THE SOMEWHAT ACTIVE SKIES, SCATTERED SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS POPPING UP THIS AFTERNOON. 83 SILVER CITY ABOUT 90. OFF THE MOUNTAINS. JUST LEFTOVER CLOUDS. SATURDAY. SUNDAY WE ARE DRY. WE HAVE THAT TEMPERATURE CREEPING UP TOWARDS 90 IN SILVER CITY BY EARLY NEXT WEEK, AND THAT MEANS WE’RE RIGHT AROUND 100 OFF. THE MOUNTAINS. MAY HAVE SOME RAIN CHANCES THOUGH TO LOOK FORWARD TO, ESPECIALLY ON WEDNESDAY. SOUTHEAST NEW MEXICO GOT RUIDOSO AT 75. REMEMBER WE GOT A FLOOD WATCH THIS AFTERNOON. ALAMOGORDO AT 83. IT’S ONLY UPPER 80S FROM ROSWELL TO CARLSBAD. CHANCE OF SCATTERED SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS. REMEMBER, WE’RE IN THE HEAVY RAIN RISK OR THREAT AREA. MORE SCATTERED STORMS POSSIBLE TOMORROW. THEN WE DRY IT OUT AND SHOOT RIGHT UP TO 100 ON SUNDAY. AND NEXT WEEK WE’VE GOT THESE HIGH TEMPERATURES ON A DAILY BASIS, RIGHT AROUND 100 DEGREES, GIVE OR TAKE. MAYBE AN ISOLATED SHOWER CHANCE TO MENTION AS WELL. NORTHEAST NEW MEXICO TEMPERATURES KIND OF ALL OVER THE 80S TODAY, BUT IT’S 80S AND 90S WITH THIS CHANCE OF SCATTERED SHOWERS AND STORMS, SIMILAR TEMPERATURES, SIMILAR SKY TOMORROW, MORE SCATTERED STORMS SUNDAY, MONDAY. DRIER, A LITTLE BIT WARMER INTO THOSE UPPER 80S. MAYBE SOME MORE RAIN CHANCES BY THE MIDDLE OF NEXT WEEK, BUT THEY DON’T LOOK AS IMPRESSIVE AS THE STORMS THAT FIRE TODAY AND TOMORROW. NORTH CENTRAL NEW MEXICO IN ON THIS CHANCE OF SCATTERED SHOWERS AND STORMS WITH HIGHS IN THE 80S. LOW 90S. ESPANOLA VALLEY. SIMILAR FORECAST TOMORROW. WE DRY IT OUT SUNDAY. MONDAY. THOSE ARE JUST SLIGHT CHANCES THAT STORMS TOWARDS THE MIDDLE OF NEXT WEEK. AND WE’RE CREEPING UP CLOSE TO 90 EVERY DAY IN SANTA FE, LOWER 90S TODAY FOR THE ALBUQUERQUE METRO. JUST A 10% STORM CHANCE. SIMILAR STORY TOMORROW, CREEPING UP THE TEMPERATURES A LITTLE BIT SUNDAY, MONDAY AS WE DRY OUT AND THOSE TEMP

Dry skies and pleasant temperatures greet us on this Friday morning, most of the state is somewhere in the 50s and 60s early in the day. Later this afternoon we expect highs to climb into the 80s and lower 90s, temperatures very close to early June averages. There will be scattered storms firing during the afternoon and evening, but it will only be a slight chance around Albuquerque and for much of central New Mexico. Higher storm chances will be in play for parts of Eastern and especially Southern New Mexico, and we once again have a flood watch issued for Ruidoso and the northern half of the Sacramento mountains from Noon to 6 pm today.Saturday will produce another crop of scattered afternoon and evening storms, but mainly for the central and eastern part of the state. Southwest New Mexico will already start to dry out on Saturday afternoon, a trend that will overtake the rest of the state on Sunday. As the second half of the weekend brings drier and sunnier skies, expect temperatures to climb a little more around the state with the hottest spots down in Southeast New Mexico, where we will probably hit 100 degrees or more! Looking ahead to next week, temperatures probably continue to creep up a little more with 90s and even triple digits becoming more common, especially across the south. While Monday will probably be another day with dry skies, we may start to see small storm chances work back in by Tuesday, however that could be more of the evaporating rain – we call that virga – than showers that actually wet the ground. Wednesday and Thursday could be days with perhaps slightly higher storm chances, but there is also some uncertainty with the forecast during this time period so we will continue to monitor our forecast models for updates.
