SOCIAL MEDIA CAN SOMETIMES GET A BAD RAP, BUT THERE ARE TIMES WHEN IT CAN BRING PEOPLE TOGETHER FOR A GOOD CAUSE. AND THAT HAPPENED THIS WEEK AFTER SOMEONE IN THE WINSTON COUNTY AREA SPOTTED A STRAY DOG WITH A BUCKET STUCK ON ITS HEAD. THEY POSTED PICTURES ON FACEBOOK ASKING FOR HELP, TRYING TO CATCH THE SKITTISH PUP. WVTM 13 LISA CRANE SHOWS US THE FIVE DAY CRUSADE TO SAVE THE SCARED DOG AND HIS BUDDY, THE LAB MIX, NOW CALLED BUCK AND HIS BELGIAN MALINOIS BEST FRIEND THEY CALL MILO, ARE RELAXING IN THEIR NEW HOME AFTER SEVERAL PEOPLE CAME TOGETHER ON FACEBOOK TO TRACK THEIR MOVEMENTS, TRYING TO CATCH THEM AND REMOVE THE BUCKET THAT WAS STUCK ON BUCK’S HEAD. THAT JOINT EFFORT PAID OFF TRAP THEM. I COME UP BEHIND HIM WITH A PAIR OF SNIPS AND STARTED CUTTING ON THE BUCKET, AND WE EASED THE BUCKET AND GOT THE BUCKET OFF HIS HEAD, AND IT WAS LIKE HIS WHOLE ATTITUDE CHANGED AS SOON AS THAT BUCKET CAME OFF HIS HEAD. HE WAS JUST YOU COULD SEE THE RELIEF ON HIM AND HE JUST WENT ALMOST LIMP. CALEB STEELE IS AN ANIMAL TRAPPER. HE WAS HELPING AS WELL. HE SAYS MILO WAS BEING VERY AGGRESSIVE, NOT UNDERSTANDING. THEY WERE TRYING TO SAVE BUCK. ONCE THE BUCKET WAS OFF, THEY BOTH SEEMED TO RELAX. BUCK IS BEING TREATED FOR A SINUS AND EAR INFECTION. MILO SEEMS TO HAVE AN INJURED HIP AND SOME CUTS NOW. BUCK IS LOOKING PRETTY GOOD RIGHT? ALL THINGS CONSIDERED. BUT THEY’RE GOING TO WAIT. LET HIM GET A LITTLE MORE SETTLED. FEELING A LITTLE BIT BETTER BEFORE HE’LL BE AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION. BUT WHEN HE IS, THEY’RE GOING TO BE VERY PICKY ABOUT WHERE HE GOES. THEY SAY THEY WANT VETERINARIAN REFERENCES AND THEY WANT TO VISIT ANY POTENTIAL NEW HOME. THEY ALSO WANT TO KEEP THESE BEST BUDS TOGETHER. I HOPE THEY FIND A GOOD OWNER THAT WILL KEEP THEM BOTH TOGETHER, BECAUSE THAT MALINOIS STUCK WITH THAT BLACK DOG. THROUGH ALL THAT, YOU KNOW?
Volunteers save ‘Buck’ the stray dog with a bucket stuck on his head
Social media brought people in Alabama together to rescue a stray dog with a bucket stuck on its head. After a resident posted pictures of the skittish pup on Facebook, a group of people worked to track and catch the dog.The lab mix, now named Buck, and his Belgian Malinois companion, Milo, are recovering in a new home after the successful rescue Thursday.Eric Bowman, who led the effort, described the moment the bucket was removed.“I came up behind him with a pair of snips and started cutting on the bucket,” Bowman said. “We eased the bucket off his head, and it was like his whole attitude changed. As soon as that bucket came off his head, you could see the relief on him, and he just went almost limp.” Animal trapper Kaleb Estill, who assisted in the rescue, said Milo was aggressive at first, not understanding they were trying to help. Once the bucket was off, both dogs seemed to relax.Buck is being treated for sinus and ear infections, while Milo has an injured hip and some cuts. Bowman said the dogs will be available for adoption after they recover. He added that they will be selective about the new owners, requiring veterinarian references and a home visit to ensure the “best buds” stay together.“I hope that they find a good owner that’ll keep them both together,” Estill said. “Because that Malinois stuck with that black dog through all that. They definitely have a bond.”Bowman credited Haydon Twilley, Jennifer Burnett, Tyler Hoobler, Hayden Everett, James Brown, Kevin Beasley and many others for their help.
