CINCINNATI —

An Ohio animal shelter has shared a new development regarding a foster kitten who captured the hearts of thousands across the country.

Gelato, a kitten who went viral for his homemade wheelchair, now has a forever home. He was adopted earlier this week, officials said, after spending months at Cincinnati Animal Care.

Gelato’s story made national headlines.

The kitten suffered a spinal injury that left his back legs weak and unable to support his weight.

His first mobility aid came courtesy of one of the shelter’s lead veterinary technicians, who assembled his first wheelchair with the use of cardboard, rulers, Hot Wheels and tape.

“Sometimes, all it takes is a little creativity, a lot of heart, and someone who refuses to give up,” the shelter said when it first shared Gelato’s story.

His next big upgrade came in the form of a custom 3D-printed wheelchair to help strengthen his back legs.

The shelter wrote a big thank-you to Gelato’s adoring public on social media, saying in part, “Your shares truly make a difference and help us reach the people who can help animals like Gelato.”
