Video shows an unknown animal attacking people in New Hampshire. Police are on the lookout
LEBANON, N.H. —
Police in Lebanon, New Hampshire, are trying to determine what sort of animal is responsible for three attacks reported in a span of 36 hours.
Lebanon police said their advice is for anyone who sees the small, gray animal to stay away from it.
Surveillance video obtained by police shows an animal about the size of a house cat going after a man near a U-Haul truck in a parking lot. The animal grabs the man’s bag and then attacks his feet before he’s able to kick it away. It then scrambles back under the truck.
Police said they believe the same animal is responsible for all three attacks. They said it could be a gray fox or a fisher, but it’s difficult for them to say for sure based on the one video.
“It’s concerning because of the animal attacking people. That’s usually indicative of something being wrong with the animal, most likely rabies,” said police Chief Phillip Roberts. “And then, you know, the fact that it’s coming out and scratching and biting at people. That’s obviously a concern to us.”
All three attacks happened in the same area. The first one was reported Sunday, and police learned about the other two Tuesday.
Witnesses said the animal showed unusually aggressive behavior.
Police said they are working with Fish and Game officials to try to locate the animal and determine whether it’s sick.
Officials said anyone who sees the animal should not go near it and instead call Lebanon police or Fish and Game.
