Two people are injured, one seriously, after a car crashed on an interstate in Plainville, Massachusetts.The crash, which involved an electric vehicle, happened Sunday just after 1:30 p.m. First responders administered CPR to one of the occupants. Witness video showed several people frantically attempting to pull the driver and passenger out of the car in the moments after the crash. The video showed them kicking in the glass and roof of the car and going so far as to even use a boulder to rescue the victims. One of those good Samaritans was Ashland Lt. Fire Chief David Iarussi, who was on his way home from a wedding when he encountered the rollover crash. “I looked in the gulley and saw a bunch of big rocks, and thought I have to do that,” Iarussi said. He was able to break the windshield to get to the victims, but it was still a race against time, as the car had caught fire at some point during the rescue. “The fire changed everything, and I know how fast these cars can burn up, so my mindset was, I’ve got to get them out,” Iarussi said. With the help of several fire extinguishers and the help of Iarussi and the good Samaritans, the flames were kept at bay, and the passengers were removed from the car. Despite a few cuts on his arms, Iarussi, a 32-year veteran firefighter, said he was grateful for everyone’s help. “I know for a fact that if those people didn’t keep putting out the flames, that car would’ve been completely gone and we probably would’ve lost a couple of people,” Iarussi said. Both victims, a man and a woman, were taken to a nearby hospital, with one suffering life-threatening injuries. Their current conditions are unknown.
