Two brothers who served their country and had not seen each other for 40 years were reunited today through a video chat organized by Placer County.

The brothers, one living in Grass Valley and the other in eastern Connecticut, have been separated by nearly 3,000 miles. While they have kept in touch over the phone, they had not seen each other in four decades.

Placer County facilitated the reunion, allowing the brothers to connect face-to-face virtually.

“I think it’s a great opportunity for us to help both of these veterans maybe become a little more healthy in their mental health,” said Steve Johnson, a Placer County Veterans Service officer. “I can’t imagine that it’s a great feeling not to be able to see your family for such a long time.”

The Placer County Veterans Office is now working with a nonprofit to provide the brothers with internet access and tablets so they can continue connecting face-to-face.
