US skiers discuss Lindsey Vonn competing in Olympics despite torn ACL

Date:

I asked members of Team USA Skiing here in Milan two things about Lindsey Vonn. One, have they ever skied in major competition with *** serious knee injury? And two, what do they think of her going for gold with *** torn ACL? Freestyle skier Landon Wendler says he knows exactly what V Vaughn is going through. It is entirely possible to ski moguls without an ACL. I actually tore mine. Last December and skied multiple events without it, but Wendler says it was difficult. It is very painful, but, you know, us athletes will do whatever it takes. Every single member of the mogul’s team told me that while they understand Vaughn is taking *** risk, they support her decision to ski 100%. She’s set *** new standard for what, what’s possible to come back through her time away, her injuries, her surgeries, everything. And then to come back to such *** high level, um, you know, it’s, it was such *** shame to see her go down in that injury, but then you almost thought like, man, well, it’s the fairy tale ending that she’s going to be the one to, to come through this also, because if there’s anyone that can do it, it’s her. Yeah, she’s awesome. Lindsey Vonn will put her knee to the test when she skis in the women’s downhill event this Sunday, February 8th at the Milan Cortina Olympics. I’m Fletcher Mackle.

However, he acknowledged the challenges involved. “It is very painful, but, you know, us athletes will do whatever it takes,” Wendler said.Every member of the moguls team expressed their understanding of the risks Vonn is taking but fully supported her decision to compete. Nick Page, another member of Team USA Skiing, expressed admiration for Vonn’s resilience. “She’s set a new standard for what’s possible, coming back from her time away, her injuries, her surgeries, everything, and to be back at such a high level, that’s what makes it such a shame to see her go down with that injury, but man, it’s now like a fairy tale ending.
