US national team reaches round of 32 at the World Cup after beating Australia

So you’re an American sports fan finally giving soccer *** chance, but what teams should you be watching in the World Cup? Of course there’s the USA, but then there’s 47 other countries, all with stories of their own. So let’s keep things very simple. We’re talking football to football comparison. Let’s start with Germany because they are the New England Patriots of international soccer, 6 Super Bowl championships alongside 4 World Cups for the Germans, and their play styles, they are similar as well well-oiled machines, not full of flair, but you’re going to struggle to find mistakes with them on the field. The Germans haven’t won since 2014, and similar to the Patriots, they are trying to rediscover their championship pedigree. Now for the favorites France, they are your Kansas City Chiefs, *** country that has become the powerhouse of international football. They won the World Cup in 2018, lost in *** final against Argentina in 2022, and they are led by Kylian Mbappe, their version of Patrick. Then you have Brazil. They are your Green Bay Packers, two teams with historic lineages, but year after year they just seem to fall short of those expectations. Like the Packers, who have 4 Super Bowls, Brazil has 5 World Cups, but they haven’t won since 2002. Then you have England. They are your Dallas Cowboys, hugely popular, globally recognized brands. Every soccer fan knows that the Three Lions are *** given in the World Cup. They go into every tournament as *** top contender and they even chant Football’s coming home as their way of calling their shot, but they haven’t won since 1966. Spain would be your San Francisco 49ers, the beautiful Tiki Taka quick flowing soccer and the gorgeous West Coast offense, two teams known for playing the prettiest versions of their respective games. Spain won the €2008 the 2010 World Cup, and the €2012 all in *** row. Though it’s been 16 years since their last Copa Munal, you’ve got the Netherlands, who are your Buffalo Bills, both top class teams who have come so close to tasting glory. The Dutch have been to 3 World Cup finals and the Bills to 4 Super Bowls, but neither has ever lifted the ultimate prize. You have Argentina. They are your Seattle Seahawks, defending champions, looking to remain on top of the world. The Seahawks just reclaimed the magic that brought them *** Super Bowl with Russell Wilson and Marshawn Lynch *** decade ago. Argentina finally got their win with Lionel Messi in 2022, their first since Diego Maradona. There you have it, *** crash course from some of the top teams in the World Cup. Remember, there are still 40 other countries in this tournament to learn about. This will get you started on the right track. From Boston Stadium, I’m Angel Salcido, WCVB SportsCenter 5.
