Tomahawk are officially back. The genre-blurring supergroup will hit the road this summer for their first live performances in 13 years, celebrating their 25th anniversary with a month-long U.S. tour. The run also reunites them with longtime labelmates Melvins for the first time since their joint 2003 Geek Show trek.
Featuring guitarist Duane Denison, vocalist Mike Patton, drummer John Stanier, and bassist Trevor Dunn, Tomahawk last toured behind 2013’s Oddfellows. While the band returned with 2021’s Tonic Immobility, the album arrived during the pandemic and was never brought to the stage — making this upcoming run the long-overdue live debut for that material.
Denison framed the comeback with characteristic wit, saying: “In the spirit of the Olympics, Team Tomahawk has decided to rise up and go for the gold once again – also competing will be our cohorts the Melvins.”
The Melvins will join the trek in their four-piece configuration, featuring Buzz Osborne, Dale Crover, Steven McDonald, and Coady Willis.
Osborne didn’t mince words about the reunion: “This tour is a no brainer. I can’t wait. A Melvins/Tomahawk trek will be a stone groove.”
For fans of experimental heavy music, the pairing is a full-circle moment. Both bands have long occupied overlapping corners of alternative metal and art-rock, and their 2003 co-headline run remains a cult favorite among devotees. The tour kicks off on July 18 at Brooklyn Bowl in Nashville, TN and wraps up on August 15 at The Belasco in Los Angeles, CA. Get your tickets here.
