It affected many families and friends, businesses and an entire community,” Troendle said. “But over the last several days I’ve also seen the best of this community. Seen first responders rushing to help people they’ve never met. I’ve seen medical professionals working tirelessly to care for those injured and I’ve seen community members stepping up to help. That is Toledo.”Troendle says the shooting stemmed from a dispute between two rival groups that led to a physical altercation and, ultimately, an exchange of gunfire. Troendle stopped short of calling the groups “gangs”.It’s believed some victims were “intentionally targeted,” though most victims are innocent bystanders, the chief said.
