Titans’ Cedric Gray in concussion protocol after UTV accident

Date:

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Tennessee Titans linebacker Cedric Gray has been placed in the NFL’s concussion protocol after he was involved in a UTV accident in Tennessee over the weekend.

Gray was the driver of the vehicle and “sustained a concussion and minor injuries,” according to a statement from the Titans on Monday. There was no alcohol or reckless driving involved in the incident, a team source told ESPN.

Gray led the Titans with 164 tackles last season after starting 16 games.

Concussion protocol calls for a player to complete a multiphase return-to-participation program before being cleared to get back to the field. Gray will be examined by an independent neurological consultant assigned to the Titans. If the consultant agrees with the team physician that Gray’s concussion has been resolved, he could be cleared for return by Sunday, when the Titans open the season against the New York Jets at Nissan Stadium.

“We look forward to Cedric returning to the field soon and in full health when he clears the NFL’s concussion protocol,” the team said in its statement.
