ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – With an average of 310 days of sunshine, a diverse and expansive set of locations, a robust crew base, close proximity to Los Angeles, and a tax rebate incentive, the Duke City has long been a popular destination for movies and television shows due to its distinctiveness. The film and television industries in Albuquerque have rapidly expanded, and the city now offers lucrative creative and technical opportunities.
After the success of productions filmed in New Mexico in the previous decade, large-budget studio films quickly took to the Land of Enchantment, causing a boom in the local film industry.
2010-2015
Seen on the season five DVD cover of “Breaking Bad,” the Albuquerque Rail Yards, owned by the city, were renovated in 2013 with the hopes of renting out buildings and reusing the space as a digital film studio. The New Mexico Media Arts Collective is constructing the Eric Witt Media Arts Center with a 2026 target completion, aiming to offer workforce training for the film industry. The Rail Yards is a popular filming location, with titles like “Army of the Dead,” “Daybreak,” “Better Call Saul,” “Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials,” and “The Avengers” filming scenes here.
