The Season’s Final Week: How Sioux Falls Impacted the World Standings Races

Date:

Oct. 1 marks the start of the new year in professional rodeo, a moment to celebrate the highs of a prosperous season, the athletes who secured their spots at the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo (NFR) and a season that seemed to fly by. But what happened in the days leading up to rodeo’s new year?

The Governor’s Cup in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, set the stage for some of the season’s biggest highs and lows. With all eyes on Sioux Falls, the stakes were higher than ever. For athletes fighting to secure a spot in the 2026 Wrangler National Finals Rodeo, the Cinch Playoffs and Governor’s Cup represented one final opportunity to make a move in the world standings.

PRCA athletes competed for the Governor’s Cup title and more than $1.5 million in prize money. The inaugural event was the richest rodeo in South Dakota history.

When the dust settled, several athletes walked away with significant paydays that helped reshape the world standings, break regular-season earnings records and turn NFR dreams into reality.

Entering the Governor’s Cup in 15th place, world champion and NFR veteran Clayton Biglow understood the stakes and capitalized on the pressure. Taking home the title in Sioux Falls, Biglow earned $34,000 in the final round alone. Securing his position inside the top 15, Biglow can now breathe a sigh of relief and shift his sights toward the Thomas & Mack Center.

Steer wrestler Dalton Massey also collected the $34,000 champion’s payday, securing fourth place in the world standings as he looks toward his third NFR. Also making headlines in steer wrestling was Governor’s Cup reserve champion Jesse Brown, who broke the regular-season earnings record with $236,548 won throughout the 2026 season.

Young team ropers Tyler Tryan and Nicky Northcott also punched their tickets to their first NFRs following their big win in South Dakota, putting both athletes in gold buckle contention.

Making history, all four Wright brothers qualified for the 2026 NFR after reining world champion Statler Wright’s top performance in Sioux Falls helped him narrowly climb inside the top 15 in the saddle bronc riding world standings.

Calf roper Haven Meged also enters the NFR in gold buckle contention after taking home the $34,000 payday in Sioux Falls. He will enter his eighth NFR ranked second in the world standings.

Also continuing his historic season, Resistol Rookie Bull Rider Noah Lee added to his impressive $405,041 regular-season total. He now heads to Las Vegas looking to continue rewriting the record books and capture his first world title.

With the Governor’s Cup serving as one of the most consequential weeks of the professional rodeo season, the final days brought significant movement across the world standings. As the regular season officially closes, all eyes now turn to the 2026 Wrangler NFR and the athletes who will compete for a world championship in Las Vegas.
