The No. 4 Texas Longhorns beat No. 1 Ohio State 24-23 in Austin Saturday night.

In one of the most anticipated matchups of the young college football season, the Longhorns rode a 21-point second-half rally to stun the top-ranked Buckeyes.

The Buckeyes had appeared in complete control after a dominant three quarters that built a 23-3 lead.

Connor Hawkins, who had earlier made three field goals, missed from 45 yards, setting up Texas’ winning drive.

The Longhorns scored a touchdown with just 34 seconds left in regulation to secure the victory. Texas running back Hollywood Smothers punched in the score from one-yard out.

In a showdown of two of the best quarterbacks in college football, Arch Manning and Julian Sayin went toe-to-toe the entire game, with both throwing a touchdown pass.

“We found a way to win,” Manning said after the game. “That’s what good teams do.”

In 2025, No. 2 Ohio State beat No. 13 Texas, 14-7, in Columbus, Ohio.
