Hotter and drier weather will move into New Mexico this weekend. Monsoon moisture returns again next week bringing back afternoon showers and storms.
Much drier weather started moving into New Mexico Friday. A few showers and storms have still popped up over the Sacramento, Guadalupe, and northern mountains this afternoon. In addition to the drier air, temperatures have been hotter today too with highs back up to around average for this time of year.
Hotter and drier weather will continue to move in this weekend. Many areas will see highs in the 90s both Saturday and Sunday, with triple-digit heat returning to parts of southern New Mexico. Saturday will be dry across almost all of New Mexico, with the exception of a few spotty afternoon storms over some of the northern mountain peaks and along the Texas state line. This will be the same story on Sunday, but with a couple more storms in southern and southeastern parts of the state.
A surge of monsoon moisture will move back into New Mexico early next week. This will increase rain chances into the middle of next week. Most of New Mexico will see rain chances return, except for east-central and southeast New Mexico where high pressure will keep things drier. Temperatures will also cool off for most with the increase in moisture and rain. The rain will also bring back a threat of flash flooding by the middle of next week.
