Tax Free Weekend starts Friday in New Mexico

NEW MEXICO (KRQE) – As students get ready to go back to school, the state is helping New Mexicans save money on back-to-school shopping. Tax Free Weekend will start this Friday just after midnight and go through Sunday night at 11:59 p.m.

During that time, sales tax will not be charged on clothing, shoes, computers, and school supplies. The New Mexico Taxation and Revenue Department said people can save 5% or more on their purchases.

There are maximum amounts within some categories. For clothing and shoes, they must be less than $100 per unit. The limit for desktop, laptop, or notebook computers is $1,000. The limit for related computer hardware is $500. School supplies must be under $30 per unit.
