Surprise! SUNN O))) Releases New EP Eternity’s Pillars b/w Raise The Chalice & Reverential

Date:

Surprise! Sunn O))) is back with a brand new maxi 12″ EP called Eternity’s Pillars b/w Raise the Chalice & Reverential and news that they’ve signed to Sub Pop. Which is interesting considering Greg Anderson of Sunn O))) owns their previous label Southern Lord, but whatever. Still stoked.

Eternity’s Pillars b/w Raise the Chalice & Reverential marks a significant moment for the duo of Stephen O’Malley and Anderson, in that they’ve recorded the new EP as just themselves. So if you’ve been yearning for the old-school drone of some filthy Sunn O))), here it is in all its low end glory.

On the tracks themselves, Sunn O))) offered: “‘Eternity’s Pillars’ is named for the mid-1980s television program created and hosted by jazz visionary and spiritual guru Alice Coltrane Turiyasangitananda, focusing on her incessant belief in music’s capacity to attain spiritual transcendence.

“‘Raise the Chalice’ is named for a rallying cry often uttered by Northwest legend Ron Guardipee throughout the mid-1990s. ‘Reverential’ equally pays respect and sends loud praise to those who came before us with the heaviest burdens, expressions with music and art being the materials of an antiphon.”

Eternity’s Pillars b/w Raise the Chalice & Reverential is available here.
