Stormy weather will stick around parts of New Mexico through the Labor Day weekend. Another cold front will bring more storms and cooler temperatures next week.
It was a much more active weather day with thunderstorms moving across New Mexico. These storms brought heavy rainfall to some areas. Storms are still moving through southern and eastern New Mexico tonight, but will end by Saturday morning. Drier air moves into northern and central New Mexico Saturday, pushing afternoon storm chances into southern and eastern New Mexico. Temperatures will stay warm across the state though.
Low level moisture increases across New Mexico Sunday. This will bring an increase in afternoon storm chances, along with slightly cooler high temperatures. Temperatures will continue to cool off slightly for Labor Day, but there will not be as many storms as Sunday. Still, storms will bring a threat of heavy rainfall and flash flooding both Sunday and Monday. Lightning will also pose a risk to any outdoor activity. Tuesday will bring another round of isolated afternoon storms, especially in the mountains and nearby areas.
A stronger backdoor cold front will move into the state Tuesday into Wednesday. This front will bring an increase in low level moisture and cooler temperatures. More showers and storms will develop Wednesday afternoon, especially in northern and eastern New Mexico where storms could drop heavy rain. Temperatures will continue cooling off into the end of next week, with high temperatures falling below-average for this time of year, and parts of northeast New Mexico even feeling more like fall. Afternoon storm chances will also stick around into the end of next week.
