Temperatures set to gradually creep up as storm chances stay low into the weekend
There are still some showers and thunderstorms firing across Southeast New Mexico early this morning that should gradually come to an end into the daybreak hour, otherwise it is a pleasant start with dry skies and comfortable temperatures. Later this afternoon we will be down to just a slight chance of storms through the central part of the state with hotter temperatures, but for the southern and eastern part of the state there will probably be another round of scattered showers and thunderstorms. Across the south we are still seeing the potential for locally heavy rainfall, a threat that does include the Ruidoso area once again.Friday will be somewhat of a rinse and repeat day with scattered storm chances favoring areas south and east of Albuquerque, and Central New Mexico with only a slight chance of storms. Then on Saturday the computer models are suggesting a little uptick in afternoon storm coverage through the central part of the state, and that does put us into a potential scenario where we could see those stronger easterly wind gusts late in the day here in the Albuquerque metro from those storms on the mountains. Looking ahead to Sunday and Monday, a dry push coming in from the west will likely shut down storm chances for the entire state with temperatures jumping up a little on us, some classic pool time weather! Then on Tuesday we may start to see small storm chances moving back in. This could end up being a day with a virga threat that could make the day take a windy and dusty turn for the afternoon and evening. Then on Wednesday we could be in for a better chance of rain.
