State sets aside $25M to help hire firefighters and EMTs

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – The state has set aside $25 million to help fire departments add firefighters and EMTs to their ranks. The Department of Finance and Administration says the grants will offset the cost of new salaries, creating opportunities for volunteer firefighters in smaller communities to possibly transition to paid positions.

The application period runs from May 15 to June 15. The DFA is hosting a webinar for fire departments and local governments on May 14 at 2 p.m. on Microsoft Teams. Those interested in attending need to email Firefighter.fund@dfa.nm.gov.
