New Mexico’s broadband office unveils its 2026-2028 statewide plan
The Office of Broadband Access and Expansion has released its Three-Year Statewide Broadband Plan, outlining the agency’s strategies, goals, and priorities for expanding high-speed internet access across New Mexico from 2026 through 2028.The plan was developed with input from the Connect New Mexico Council and broadband stakeholders statewide and serves as a roadmap to achieve universal connectivity. Currently, about 90% of New Mexico has access to high-speed internet. OBAE officials say the new plan will guide efforts to reach 100% coverage.”Our Three-Year Plan demonstrates OBAE’s commitment to build and expand broadband infrastructure across the state,” Director Jeff Lopez said. “We are on the path to universal connectivity, and this plan is the playbook to bring broadband to every home, business, farm, and anchor institution.”The plan focuses on four core goals: universal availability, widespread adoption, next-generation advancement, and program stewardship. It also identifies six strategic priorities, including statewide connectivity, affordability, infrastructure development, and digital opportunity.Since releasing its first plan in 2023, OBAE has finalized the state broadband map, expanded education networks, and awarded hundreds of millions of dollars in broadband funding.
